I live within a 1/2 mile from two (2) police stations...one is a police training station.
At ANY given time, you will see several police patrols going up and down the street, to and from the station. There is only so much precaution a traveller can take, but its always nice to know that protection is just AT the corner. So be safe! For those who need additional security, feel free to take advantage of my night time free shuttle from the nearest train stop!
I will admit, there are better areas in Chicago but none will be as memorable as your stay here! If you are looking for a posh, well-to-do area, DO NOT BOOK HERE! hehehe This is an urban inner city community that has undergone nice redevelopment due to the brand new college recently built (but has some work to be done). I live near a beautiful massive park with a full running track, community center /swimming and children's playground.

My friends and I traveled to Chicago from Colorado. Although the place is far from downtown and it "seems" to be a dangerous neighborhood (actually one time when I took the taxi home, the driver kept talking about how risky my life can become), the experience is great. You can stay out as long as you want and annie is always there to pick you up from the train station so there is nothing to be afraid of. Other guests in the house is very nice and it feels like home there. Getting home in the evening and have some chat with the other guests is just great. And all you need is a place to sleep right? I wish I could stay there for a more couple of days :-).
I had been staying in Annie's house for 2 months and it was one of the best decisions that I've made in the USA. Annie was very nice with everybody and her house was so comfortable.
Her shuttle service was so good. she arrived to the train station 5 min after I called even though she couldn't understand my english, lol.
By staying in Annie's house, you can not only have a good accommodation but also make friend with the others guests and Annie. It was a good occasion to practice english too. Just awesome.
I strongly recommend his house to anyone wanting to enjoy their days in Chicago!!!
The host is very friendly! Though the neighborhood is a little unsafe, it will be no problem if you are planning to go home early. Public transportation is convenient. Different people in the house, it was a wonderful unforgettable memory.
Not everyone feel 'safe' in Chicago period. However, for those who feel that the area renovations are not done, there is no need to come home early. I am up at all night till 2 a.m. for free to pick up my guests from the train stop. But Li and her friend were very nice. I thought that may be the reason they were coming home early. hehehe. But they are always welcome back.
Annie was awesome! She made getting to her place easy by providing detailed travel info. She also picks you up from the train, as noted in the description. The only slight complaint is the distance to downtown (about30- 45mins). However, it wasn't long enough to deter me from traveling! There is a bus in easy walking distance and a place to grab food as well. Overall, I def recommend staying at her place to help keep you on budget!
Hey guys when I got there I was in shock the house is located in worse area you can imagine! The house looks terrible outside and completely different inside than it looks on the pictures:(((
In every room was mess and uncleaned surface ! The private room was so small... you can't even walk around the bed because it is the size of the room...:((( I would not stay a min staying in that house!
The host was nice but that doesn't change anything...
When I read this review, I had to ask who is he? To this day, I don't remember this guy coming to my home. My home has been photographed by Airbnb photographers themselves. So for this guy to say he saw something different is puzzling. Now i understand that there are undercover police officers who disguise themselves as guest to bring down airbnb hosts (as is with the case in New York and some Chicago host who have contacted me). It is our belief that hotels are loosing business with airbnb services that some have resorted to these baseless tactics. If this 'Andrei' was dissatified with my home or area, he could have simply (website hidden)d the college nearby to get an idea of the area. He could have cancelled his reservation as well since he booked in advance. But he didn't. Instead, he pays for 4 nights, don't show up or call, and then leave a review. The only thing i can say is, 'thank you for your payment?' I guess this is a gift from the police department? For that i say, 'ok and thank you very much...come again?' hehehee
Annie is a great host. Very communicative and helpful. She keeps the house very clean and is a great cook. Breakfast was always available and sufficient.
I would book here again.
Annie is a great host!! I love to stay with her and I hope to visit her again asap!
I had a wounderful time at Nonya's! The other travelers where very nice too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could have spent more time!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a great time in Chicago and at Annie's home. It's this simple, if you want an experience like visiting your cool cousin who you can stay up half the night with and chat and laugh, Annie's the place. Read her description!!! She is quite accurate about how she describes her place and neighborhood. I'm from Brooklyn and pretty familiar with areas like that so it was no sweat for me, and really, there were no problems at all. Also, Annie drove me from door to train stop so I had no complaints. The other people staying there were cool too. I felt at home.
Stay at Annie's is like the most incredible experience ever! I got to meet interesting people all over the world. And we became friends very soon and travel together. Annie tried her best to make the house become a big sweet home, and it is. If i ever come back to Chicago I would definitely stay there.
