AFTER CONFIRMATION OF YOUR RESERVATION:
Please check your AIRBNB receipt for WIFI login/password info AND for my website address which contains DETAILED additional information including directions, check-in, Things-To-Do (free), and more.
I live within a 1/2 mile from two (2) police stations...one is a police training station.
At ANY given time, you will see several police patrols going up and down the street, to and from the station. There is only so much precaution a traveller can take, but its always nice to know that protection is just AT the corner. So be safe! For those who need additional security, feel free to take advantage of my night time free shuttle from the nearest train stop!
I will admit, there are better areas in Chicago but none will be as memorable as your stay here! If you are looking for a posh, well-to-do area, DO NOT BOOK HERE! hehehe This is an urban inner city community that has undergone nice redevelopment due to the brand new college recently built (but has some work to be done). I live near a beautiful massive park with a full running track, community center /swimming and children's playground.
NEARBY TRANSIT LOCATION:
Nearest GREEN LINE train stop - 'Halsted' stop - Located 4 blocks away. You can catch the bus, from the corner, to the train... or make a 10 minute walk to the train)
DISTANCE TO CITY CENTER/DOWNTOWN LOOP.
My home is located approximately 9 miles from downtown/Loop area. It is a 30 minute ride to downtown loop by train; or a 15-20 minute drive by car. McCormick Place is accessible by the green line which is 4 blocks away. I am less than 3 miles away from President Obama's Home and the University of Chicago.
Other Things to Note
There is a cat located on premise, however, he is restricted to the garage/outdoor since I have guests who are allergic to pets. I do not accept pets at this time. I do plan to provide a 'Kennel' in the gargage in the year 2015. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I’m here at your disposal.

I arrived to Nonya's place just a few days after a very long international flight and was a bit under the weather. Nonya was very welcoming and hospitable and even made my bed early. Her home setup is very comfortable and akin to a frat house setting without all the rowdiness and beer bottles. She has very good wifi, provides decent food, comfortable bedding, and lets you stay in her home for super cheap: HELLO! I met some really cool people at her bnb and would have enjoyed staying longer to get to know everyone better, but I had immediate things outside of Chicago to take care of. As far as moving around the neighborhood, it's best to walk with others to the nearby stores and fast-food joints; you can also just hop on the nearby bus line to go downtown to fancier eateries and coffeeshops as well. The environment inside the home is very chilled and laid back where you can meet a lot of interesting people from all over the world or just go into one of the rooms and watch tv if you'd prefer. Nonya is awesome and I would definitely recommend her home to anyone looking to visit Chicago on a budget.
Excellent place to live shortly with a low budget! I enjoyed it very much. Thanks.
I went to Nonya's house with five more friends. She was very nice and helpful. The house seems quite like the photos and offered us everything that we needed, it was comfortable and also allowed us to cook at home, including some free food.
However, for us there are some points that we wanna highlight: the location was kind of far from downtown, there isn't places to eat around it, and it was not recommended to walk at night (at least we did not feel safe to walk through).
Thank you for your review. I try to make it as comfortable as possible. I also strive to make it as safe as possible...providing 3 ways to get home, with no incident, which includes free shuttle from the nearest train stop between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. As for restaurants and walking around at night...lol...thats why I only charge $13 a night per person for air mattress. If there was even one cafe....my rates would immediately reflect the 'tax' of what I would be charged for living in such a 'fancy' area. We have areas like that in Chicago....and they start at $40 a night per person. There's always choices. hehehehe But I think every traveller knows that.
Anna was a great host. She offered us a tour to know more about the neighborhood and the history of Chicago. Besides, she will pick us up from the subway station every time we came back late.
This was a great experience! I'll admit, I definitely felt quite uneasy when I first arrived in Englewood, but once I got a feel for the area and got to the house I felt super comfortable, not comfortable enough to go wandering around at night or anything, but enough to be able to come and go as I pleased. She makes you instantly feel welcomed and like you're visiting an old friend, highly recommend!!
I loved staying here. Nonya is a very good host. She is friendly. The neighborhood is kind of dark at night and I would recommend taking a taxi or getting ride from someone at night. The description for the ad is accurate. It's more than value for money :-)

About the Host, Nonya
I Love Travelers, traveling and everything in between. Born and raised in Chicago, I became an avid traveller and barter enthusiast. I've been travelling for 20 years and could easily write my own book on travelling on a budget. I PRIDE myself on the deals I would obtain. A week in Ireland, rental of two 3 bedroom entire homes for $45! FOUR Chicago Bull playoff games during the Michael Jordan Era included 4th row floor seats, box seats...$100 total! Travelled europe thru 15 countries for $500 including accommodations and food...for a 3 month period! And this was BEFORE Airbnb. I can go on. I'm geeked when I find a deal and become just plain silly with happiness at an unbelievable deal. Even upon confirmation, my website for my guests are filled with free and things to do for CRAZY CHEAP. 'Spend like a spencer, but live like a king!'
Aside from that, my mother was a big enthusiast in education. As the oldest of nine (9), I can tell you that we were not short on activities. Piano lessons on Saturday AND an hour a day, per child of piano practice since 4!; tennis on Sunday, knitting lessons on Tuesday and Thursday, sewing lessons on Wednesday and swim classes on Friday. And tha'ts not including the architectural/drafting studies and woodshop classes that consumed my teenage years in addition. If you are good, I can definately knit you a sweater with a nice cable stitch!
My piano teacher was Professor Zilner Randolph for over 15 years. If you don't know who he is, perhaps you heard of a musician called Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington? He was Louis Armstrong's musical director, played trumpet on a number of Armstrong's recordings and composed the tune "Old Man Moses'. He also played with Carroll Dickerson and Dave Peyton in the middle of the decade, and led his own Chicago band later in the 1930s. He was an arranger for Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, and others.
Six of my siblings and I were his students for over 15 years.. In fact, one of my brothers, if you wish to look him up for a concert near you, is a worldwide professional jazz pianist and a graduate of Berkley College, with several releases. As for me, I became sidetracked with travel. If you are ever in South Korea, Ecuador, or Florida, you will probably run into five of my sisters/brothers and their familiies. Say hello for me!
My home was built in 1875. So you will find some old and new features within. I'm always in construction to some degree within. Thanks to airbnb, I have been able to complete at least 75% of the renovations. Still have much to do.
I feel everyone should open their minds to new things, cultural experiences and diversity. Only then can you understand people thru their eyes and not some narrow minded media coverage. By letting their experience be your experience will help you better understand people in a true and raw sense. That's why I simply love Airbnb. It places you in parts of the world where you probably wouldn't have gone but always wanted to go to get that 'local' feel with a local and trusted host.
Since I don't travel as much as I used to....Let your experience be my experience!
I look forward to meeting you.
