The Space

Welcome to Casa Marina!
The property consists of a house with 2 separate efficiency apartments, one sleeps up to 4 people the other one 2.
Each efficiency has its own little kitchen facility, with a stove, a microwave, a toaster and a coffee maker. Two couples or a small group of friends can rent both units in combination, thus getting exclusive use of the pool and barbeque.
Casa Marina is located in a gated residential community, very quiet and secluded and completely immersed in nature. The beach is breathtaking and only a few meters away.
While on vacation in Playa Grande there's a lot you can do, surf is the most popular activity, even if you can't surf you can give it a try , there are several experienced instructors. You can walk the 4km long beach and, in season you can go see the giant Leatherback turtles as they lay their eggs. There are also day trips you can take, sportfishing, sailing, scubadiving and hiking the volcano and a lot more than that!
Or
you can just take it easy and relax by the pool or at the beach and do absolutely nothing...

  • I... LOOOVED... this place!!! I mean, Playa Grande has been my all-time favorite beach for years already, so I knew I would be happy with that. But Marina's rooms are a spectacular little oasis of perfect comfort in the midst of the beautiful beachy jungle of Grande. So you really get the best of both worlds: An otherworldly adventure in the vastness of nature, along with a homebase to chill, cleanse and recharge while plot your next adventure!!

Playa Grande is surfing paradise, it really is. This is where I learned to surf a few years ago, and no matter where I go surf, I always keep coming back to Grande. Not only is it a consistent beach break with PLENTY of room for everyone to grab their spot (and Marina's place is located in one of the most secluded areas, so you can have perfect private sessions out there), it's also one of my favorite waves, because it's the perfect mix of nice height, great shape, consistency, directionality, and just the right amount of punch to let you go kamikaze without getting pounded like other beaches nearby.

I love this area, on a car you've got anything you'll need real close, with Huacas and Tamarindo providing all the options you'll need, including banks. But the reason why staying here is better than staying in Tamarindo or even Flamingo, is that you're far away enough from all the rumble (not to mention you're just steps away from the surf!), so again, this home is perfectly located, I'm totally hooked and will keep coming back!!

Marina herself is an amazing host. Always smiling, you can tell she really enjoys her life out here, and she knows how to make you feel like you're part of this life too, she has an infectious passion for life!! Of course, she's also incredibly helpful in recommending restaurants and such, and making sure you're happy during your stay.

The rooms themselves are great!! I had everything I needed to cook my own healthy meals, great internet, comfy beds, fans and A/C to keep the ideal temperature, and they even have surf racks on the walls!! Wow! Everything was clean and smelled great. I can't recommend this place enough!! You've gotta come here!! =)

  • We had a lovely stay at Marina's guest house in Playa Grande. The room was immaculate, cool, and comfortable, and beach access was a 1-minute walk down the road. Marina gave us great advice on what to do during our stay. I definitely recommend this place! Consider visiting in May. It's the start of rainy season, so the crowds are sparse and the most rain you'll probably see is a brief but enthusiastic rainstorm in the afternoon.

Playa Grande is incredible - it's a long shallow beach, perfect for body boarding and body-surfing. It's also a nice walk and short boat ride ($1 each way) to Tamarindo, if you feel so inclined.

This place is easiest to get to with a car rather than by bus. Also, a GPS is worth its weight in gold.

  • Staying with Marina was very nice. She was extremely helpful and responsive prior to my visit to Playa Grande and continued to be so when we arrived. Her place was clean and very close the the beach. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time staying at Casa de Marina. Affordable, clean, and friendly. Thank you for making our stay pleasant!

  • Marina's place was a very beautiful, peaceful, quiet setting. A brief 5 minute walk to Playa Grande. Very private and easy access to come and go on my own throughout my stay. I recommend Marina's place very highly. Marina herself was very warm, friendly and accessible to help with any questions I had.

  • This was a gem of a place, walking distance to the beach, restaurants and a quick drive to store. The apartment was clean, compact and comfortable. The pool was very refreshing. Marina was a lovely host with good advice and a pleasant attitude. Definitely could have stayed longer.

  • Our stay at Marina's place was wonderful. Clean, peaceful, in a quiet gated neighborhood. The pool was refreshing, the surroundings beautiful (we were visited by hummingbirds as we drank our morning coffee:) and I loved the short 5 minute walk to the beachfront. In the neighborhood there is a little store where you can buy groceries, and attached to it is a restaurant.

Playa Grande itself is a nature preserve, surfers love the waves and it is also known for the many sea turtles that use it as their nesting ground. My sister and I woke up early to see if we could find turtles hatching out of the many sea turtle nests dotting the dunes. We had just missed them, but could see the eggs they left behind as they hatched.

We used Marina's place as a home base and then drove to visit the many beaches nearby. We especially loved Playa Conchal and Playa Flamingo. The bustling surf town of Tamarindo, is very close with many restaurants, shops, a bustling nightlife, etc.

I would highly recommend Marina's home:)

  • Casa Marina was a great place to stay. Marina was an amazing host, she was extremely helpful and made sure we had what we needed to be comfortable our whole stay in Playa Grande. She helped us plan our excursions and arranged Tim to pick us up from the airport, he was great as well. We really appreciated the location, the beaches were much better here than those in tamarindo. It is close to tamarindo but far enough away so the beaches were almost empty in playa Grande. If we come back to costa Rica we would definatly stay in playa Grande and at marinas place.

  • We throughly enjoyed our stay in Playa Grande and Marina was a great source of information for where to head for fun and adventure.
The acomadations were clean, neat and everything we needed and the hospitality made us feel very welcome. Thank you for a fun filled week, we got to watch a Sea Hawk Super Bowl victory at an outdoor bar on a flat screen which made it even more special.

  • Really enjoyed staying at Casa Marina. Location is short walk to beach and good base for day trips. Close to hiking, scuba diving, beginner's surf, and Tamarindo night life. Marina and Frank are great hosts, very warm and accommodating, they know the country really well, and made my first-time CR visit much easier.
