My daughter and I had such a wonderful experience staying with Jeannie. She is an excellent host. She was very helpful with navigating the island and making great places to eat! It was such a great place to stay and if we ever go back...we hope it is available!
We're a working professional couple in our early 30s from LA. We're pretty well travelled and more used to comfort, modern, fast pace life so when we stayed at Jeannie's house, we felt like the stresses of life melted away. Needless to say we loved our stay with Jeannie. We felt very welcome the moment we arrived. We've stayed in various AirBnB before both in the US and internationally, Jeannie is an example of an excellent, thoughtful, gracious host. She communicated with us before and on the day of our arrival, she stayed up and waited for us. She cut fresh papayas for us everyday for breakfast. She was available anytime we had a question about anything. She offered her recommendations on where to go and good spots to eat if you're open to it. We brought our own snorkeling gears, fins, but she had snorkeling gears, life jackets, noodles, bikes are all available if you needed to borrow them. The room itself was very clean and spacious with an even more spacious wrapped around lanai. I find that the picture doesn't do it justice. It is way better in person. You can access the bedroom both ways, through the door to the lanai or through the inside the house bedroom doors. We used both, very convenient. The home has a beautiful surrounding garden with lots of trees and shades. It offers 24/7 peace and tranquility away from noises. The surrounding neighborhood/Jeannie's home ambiance made it feel like being in a SE Asian country like Thailand or Bali. We visited the Kapoho tidal pools which offered incredible snorkeling experience, you will find not only all types of beautiful, colorful fishes here, but gorgeous corals too, and it was walking distance from Jeannie's home. Alahanui thermal pond was only 2 miles away, it was relaxing, peaceful and beautiful, we did not want to leave once we were there. Hawaiian National Park was spectacular and about 1 hour drive. Staying with Jeannie was one of the best part of our trip on the Big Island and was one of the reason we fell deeply in love with the Big Island. We have visited all four major Hawaiian islands, while each is beautiful and unique in its own way, Big Island is now a favorite on the list. Overall, we find that the serene energy, wonderful experience we received far exceeded the price we paid here and would highly recommend Jeannie's home/Kapoho area to anyone. The people living in this area are also incredibly humble and friendly. People we met at the tidal pools, thermal pond, street vendors, random strangers were so helpful and treated visitors with such graciousness like we are neighbors. This area is truly a gem in the Big Island. We can't wait to come back!
Jeannie nous ouvre sa belle maison avec une grande terrasse très agréable à 5 minutes à pieds d'un beau point pour nager au milieu de poissons magnifiques de toutes les couleurs. Et nous déballe sa grande carte de l'île pour nous guider
Had a wonderful time at Jeannie's place! Would highly recommend staying, it's was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle for a few days it's so relaxing you hear some amazing jungle sounds at night. The snorkelling across the road really is incredible, we saw loads of fish, coral and even some turtles. The house itself is huge with a massive balcony, Jeannie gave us loads of advice when we needed it but otherwise left us to ourselves and even left us with fresh fruits for breakfast. Our room didn't have a lock, at first I was a bit worried but soon realised you have nothing to worry its a really safe neighbourhood.
Jeanie was great and so was everyone who shared the space. I enjoyed being in a jungle like experience. I saw other reviews about the spiders and they are really not a big deal. They hang out outside and never inside. They are quite cool! It was a quiet house at night (well minus the great jungle tree frogs) which we appreciated as we are active daytime people.
Two thumbs up for Jeannie, and her home that she shares. A peaceful, clean, and fun place to stay while located in a great area. The snorkeling by the way is awesome! This was my first air bnb experience and Jeannie made it very easy and i was quite impressed overall. Also Jeannie made papaya boats and radical banana bread for breakfast grindz. Delicious....also Jeannie doubles as a great therapist.. :) thank you! Brad from Bellingham WA
We had an amazing stay! Jeannie was a fantastic host filled with local knowledge, great recommendations, and conversation. We felt right at home, the house was so relaxing. Sitting under the porch listening to the ocean, wind and frogs will be one of our favorite memories of this trip. The large bedroom is also comfortable. Most importantly, the location couldn't be better! The most amazing snorkeling was just a short walk away. We will certainly stay here again next time we come to the big island.
