From the outstanding directions to dancing to the Clash, we couldn't have asked for more from Jeannie! Leave your worries behind and experience the Aloha of a true islander. What a great experience!
Jeannie is very kind person. Her house is great place to enjoy Big Island in real "Aloha style" ;)
Perfect time, wish we can come back some time again.
Jeannie was very welcoming and warm. She has incredible knowledge and recommendations of the area of which she was so happy to share. Our stay was comfortable and hassle free.
I had a very nice time at Jeannies place. The house is near the ocean in the middle of a nice nature. A very nice place for a silent stay on Big Island.
Jeannie is an absolutely wonderful and down to earth person. She is a great host and gave us a very warm welcome into her beautiful house. Me and my wife had a great stay at this place and we loved it. The private room was absolutely safe and cosy.
This house is at a remote location and would require you to travel a lot. But if you want to escape into a beautiful private place which feels like home in the big island and have a personal tourist guide like Jeannie ;) then you know where to go! She knows everything about the island and guides you towards making the best plan for the day.
We really thank her for making our vacation in big island a lot better.
Let me start by saying Jeannie’s home is beautiful. It’s very well kept, clean and tidy. We loved our room, and the bed was very comfortable. The house is in the rainforest and there’s amazing soundtrack: during the day you’ll hear all the birds, at night the birds go silent and the frogs take turn. Within few minutes’ walk from the house are the tidal pools which offer great snorkeling. These pools seem to stay calm even when the sea is rough. Experienced snorkelers can swim closer the sea and use the narrow routes to other pools. The snorkeling gear of the house is in quite worn out, so you might want to bring your own. Our stay, however, was not as great as we had hoped. We had some communication problems with Jeannie right from the beginning. We had reserved three nights, but due to cancellations and re-scheduling on the other side of the island we had to cancel our third night the day before our arrival. I changed our reservation through AirBnb and send her a separate note where I explained, apologized and asked if she would be willing to refund our third night. She turned down the changes made via AirBnb, but didn’t reply my note. During the day of our arrival I send her text that we planned to arrive around 8 pm, and she replied it was ok. I also sent her text asking if she had got my note about us staying only two days, not three. She did not reply. We were over optimistic with our timetable when driving from other side of the island and visiting the volcano and arrived as late as 9.45 pm. (I did send her two texts from the road, she never replied on neither.) She was upset of us being late, and we apologized. Then as the last thing before she went to bed I asked if she had had my notes and texts about the change of plans. She replied that “this must be really important to you, since you have asked three times before you even bathed”. I was so stunned I couldn’t even reply the obvious: why hadn’t she answered the first nor the second time I asked. She told me her cancellation policy (which I had read from AirBnb of course) and said she only fully refunds if cancellation is made 5 days before reservation. I said I totally understood, and that in her refund conditions it’s said that on modifications guest gets 50% back with 24 hours notification. She said she’d look into that. She never spoke about the issue again. I sent new modification request on our second day, but she left it pending. Eventually I contacted AirBnb helpdesk, they looked into our case and ended up giving us full return of the last night. I would have been completely happy to get 50% and sort it out with our host, but she chose to mock me rather than have adult...
I enjoyed staying with Jeannie. The bedroom I had was homey and comfortable. Jeannine is a great host and she gave me lots of good information about the island. I really enjoyed the tide pools and the local amenities in this area, Kapoho and Pahoa.
