Luxurious Private Room in Kampala!

Apartment - Private room · Plot 3370, Majid Musisi Drive, Kampala, Central Region 256, Uganda

This luxurious & spacious 3-bedroom apartment is on top of Muyenga Hill in a quiet and very safe area (neighbors are presidential advisors). The guest room has a private setup, and the place is shared with only me.

The Space

It is a very open floor plan, which is unique for homes in Uganda.

Interaction with Guests

Definitely, we will interact. I'm a laid back and organized person that keeps the apartment very clean. There is not a TV in the apartment, so it tends to usually be on the quieter side. I'm open to conversing, but I also respect others space as they wish.

The Neighborhood

The location is one of the safest in the city, as it is at the very top of Muyenga Hill on a street that dead ends (read: no random people walking by), and my neighbors have police security because of their political status. We have our own security guard as well. The apartment is also very quiet as it is above all the hustle and bustle of the city. It's my oasis!

Getting around

It's easy to get around Kampala by private taxi or boda boda (motorcycle taxi). The other option is by matatu (shared taxi). There is sufficient parking for one more car as well.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Amazing spot with large, comfy bedroom. Tyler was an excellent host. Balcony with gorgeous view of the lake in safe, quiet area of Kampala. Loved staying here! Will definitely stay here next time I come through Uganda.

  • Tyler was an excellent host. Communication was prompt, clear, and courteous. For example, Tyler had to make a last minute trip out of town during my stay, so he sent me a message explaining the situation and even arranged for his taxi driver to pick me up at the airport. He checked in while he was away, and was genuinely concerned about the quality of my stay. Tyler's apartment is spacious, airy, and light-filled with a fantastic view.

    Response from Tyler:

Thanks for the positive feedback Tayo. It was nice to meet and host you!

  • Quiet neighborhood. Great view. Apartment is as advertised. Tyler is a true entrepreneur and a great guy.

    Response from Tyler:

Great hosting you Galen! You are welcome back any time.

  • You couldn't ask for a nicer home base in Kampala — Tyler's apartment is safe, neat, well-equipped (great kitchen, your own private bathroom with better hot water than my last Kampala hotel), and a killer view of Lake Victoria. Better still, Tyler is a great guy who will go out of his way to make you feel at home and hook you up with his vast network of boda drivers/airport taxis/etc. Highly, highly recommend!

    Response from Tyler:

Thanks Daniella! It was very nice to host you and get to know you.

  • Thanks so much Taylor! It is a great place to stay with an amazing view on Victoria Lake. I really appreciate how Taylor made sure I had a great stay, helping with transportation and advices on the city. Besides being a great host, Taylor is a great person to talk with and happy to share its successful entrepreneurial experience in Kampala. Thanks a lot!

    Response from Tyler:

Nice to host you Maxime. You're welcome back anytime!

  • Tyler was very accommodating and everything I needed was in the apartment. The view is great and the lake breeze keeps temperatures in the apartment moderate and comfortable throughout the day. The locals who looked after the apartment block (security and gardening) were all very pleasant to deal with and helpful where ever they could be. I admittedly didn't try to cook anything while I was there, but it all looks functional at least! :-)

Thanks Tyler and hope to see you again soon!

  • It was my great joy to stay at Tyler's place and Tyler made my trip and stay in Kampala very enjoyable and smooth (airport pick-up arrangement, boda boda arrangement with his helmet :), and very helpful information to chill like a local in Kampala). If you are laid back traveller, check this area which is so beautiful, safe and chill with nice cafes and restaurants.

  • This is far and away the best of my many Airbnb experiences!

I know Kampala well. I came with a packed agenda (and looked at other Airbnb spots), and I wanted a sanctuary to relax and reflect at the end of a long day. This is it. The living room has a splendid view of Late Victoria and there are fewer more calming sights than watching the rains come in over the lake and hills.

You can certainty find closer locations, but I easily commuted to town every day (20+ minutes). I loved having, within jogging distance, the gym at Hotel International (10K UGX/visit), Cafe Roma (good Italian food) and Cafe Kawa (surprisingly good espresso & wi-fi).

The apartment is spacious and has everything you need. I particularly enjoyed the well-stocked kitchen. There are too few opportunities to cook when you are on the road. There is a nice desk and speaker system for working, and the counter top makes a neat standing desk. The bathroom has the all important hot water shower on demand and towels and soap, etc. are supplied. The place is kept regularly clean and is very secure.

You can't ask for a better host than Tyler. He owns a successful local business, so there is no shortage of excellent customer service skills. He has lived in Kampala for 5+ years, and is a major node in the expat community. He is super helpful when you need it, and always very laid back and chill.

I couldn't recommend this place more!

  • Tyler was a great host and he has a lovely apartment. The apartment is in a great neighborhood and has an amazing view. The neighborhood was also great for running. I would definitely stay here again.

I am an American entrepreneur living in Kampala, Uganda. I love to learn, I love adventures, and I seek to live life fully. Most of the time, you will find me quietly working or reading. Yet, most people that meet me incorrectly label me as an extrovert. This may be because I also love being social. I enjoy deep conversations and equally deep friendships. That's me!
