Is the area safe? How far is it from Manhattan?
The neighborhood Dutch Kills is very safe, only 3 blocks from the N and Q subway station, which is 2 stops from Lexington Ave in midtown Manhattan. Queens and Queensborough Plaza stations (which provide the N, Q, 7, E, M, and R trains) are also a 5 minute walk away. Or if you'd rather drive, walk or bike, the 59th Street bridge is just a few short blocks away.
Is there any parking?
There is one dedicated spot right in front of the house exclusively for our guests. There is also plenty of other overnight parking, you can choose a meter right in front of the house where you pay $.25 per 15 min between Mon-Sat 9am-7pm, or just half a block away you can find free 24/7 parking with street cleaning rules on Thursday and Friday between 8.30-10am.
There is also a parking garage right across the street where you can park for $10 per day.
How do we get there from JFK airport?
Its very easy to get here from JFK, just take the Airtrain to Jamaica station, switch to the E train, take that to Queens Plaza and walk 3 blocks north following 29th Street to the corner of 39th Ave.
Do you accept credit cards?
Airbnb takes care of the whole reservation process and they accept all major credit cards.
How is the neighborhood around the apartment?
This area is called Dutch Kills, a small neighborhood right in between Astoria and Long Island City, two very popular destinations for cafes and restaurants. So the house is within walking distance (as short as 5 minutes) to local restaurants and bars. We also have 3 very famous galleries within walking distance, Fisher Landau Center for Art, Flux Factory and PS1, which is part of the Modern Museum of Art (MoMa). Since this area is so close to Queensboro Bridge, the main transportation hub of Queens, this has traditionally been a place for back businesses supplying Manhattan with bread, truffles, silk, etc. But over the last 10 years, artists have taken over these warehouse spaces and made them into work/live loft studios. It’s a very interesting area and I think you will be very pleased.
Interaction with Guests
We are very easy going and we leave the interaction up to you. We like to make ourselves available but we have found that most New York visitors have very specific interests and reasons for coming to the greatest city in the world and we want to give you the freedom to explore and make this city your own.
No smoking inside.
Pets are considered on a case by case basis.
Appreciate taking off street shoes inside.
Copy Of ID (Passport or Drivers License) upon arrival.
Any stay 4 days or under can only be booked 2 weeks before arrival date.
We would like to leave as little of an impact on the environment so we appreciate if you observe NYC recycling rules, save water and conserve energy to the best of your ability.
Make yourself at home and be comfortable!
We had a wonderful time. The house is super clean and Steffan even left us a couple of beers in the fridge on arrival. It makes you feel very welcome.
There is only one bathroom, but a nice sunny terrace makes up for that.
We didn't meet Steffan on arrival, but he has an art gallery just down the street and helped us out when we had some issue with a lost bagage.
We had a family trip in april, our stay was really nice.*
House is very well and was big enough for the 9 of us.steffan was really helpful and did all he could to help us while we were there.
We'll keep great memories of our stay
Only thing you may wanna know is that the house is pretty old so isolation was not the priority bacjk there, you can easily wear what's going on in the street..
But if you're there to discover the city and don't spend much time home you're good.
We're defintitely do not regret our choice and thank Steffan for his immediate answer to any of our question, we already miss the house and the memories we built here.
We had a really good time in New York. Steffan was a fantastic host.
We had a couple of minor problems and he resolved them as soon as he could.
We were nervous about the neighbourhood and catching the subway into Manhatten. However, we never encountered any difficulties.
There is a fab place to eat across the road called Dutchkills Centraal and the food was matched by the atmosphere and very friendly hosts.
If you want a real experience of New York within touching distance
of most of the main attractions then this is a great place to stay. The apartment is spacious and clean. Could do with some instructions for the television, but to be honest we were too busy to watch any anyhow.
Would stay there again if that helps !!
Steffan was very friendly and helpful all through our stay, even helping us with our luggage when we were leaving.
The house description was quite accurate. The home is big and spacious and the kitchen is excellent. The washing machine and dryer were great to have also.
It was a little cold in the downstairs area of the house, but very warm upstairs in the bedrooms.
The house is in an excellent location for catching the subway, as it is only 3 small blocks to walk up the street. The restaurants and stores in the area were quite good, particularly the Dutch Kills Inn for good food and beer.
Unfortunately, the area is very noisy on the streets outside through most of the night, even during the week. But otherwise it was an enjoyable stay and very satisfactory for our needs.
Our group had a pleasant experience staying at Steffan's place. He was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed! We were a group of 12, and surprisingly enough, we didn't feel too cramped! It was a quick subway ride to Times Square- maybe 4-5 stops! We enjoyed the fact that is was right outside of NYC where it was more quiet, plus there is a really great pub a block away and a small market if you need groceries! I would definitely recommend this place- you cannot beat the price and convenience!

About the Host, Steffan
I was born on the Island of Cyprus in the same bed as my mother was born but it was too hot for my Swedish Dad so we moved to his home land when I was 6 months old. They bought a small farm in the northern woods of Wermland and from very simple ingredients they made five more kids at home but life in organic paradise ended when I was 12 when my Mom missed her big Greek-Cypriot family in Astoria NY and took all 6 of us to the Big Apple. So life has shaped me into a innocent street smart romantic that believed in the inherent good of all people. I still have the house in Wermland and Im in the process of building a house in Bahia, Brazil with my wife Cristina. We have 4 boys between 13 and 6 and my big girl just turned 25. I adore my little Dutch Kills community where I have partnered up with the neighbors to open a day spa, art gallery, gastropub, and a community garden. We reward ourselves with travel and opening up our home to other adventurous explorers around this fabulous world.
Warm Welcomes, Steffan Olausson Partridge
