Other Things to Note
There are at least three or four ways to get here:
FERRY: Most people arrive on the Sunshine Coast by BC Ferries. See their website for schedules, departure and arrival times, and any current possible delays or timing. The ferry leaves Horseshoe Bay, and is a 40 minute gift to the modern family. It starts your decompression. Stand on the bow of the ship, let the wind blow through your hair, and just recognize that you are going to a new world of relaxation, slower pace and fewer hassles. If you are hungry, the food is actually pretty good, given the usual expected standard of ferry food one finds worldwide. If you are travelling during the busier summer time, or on weekends, you might be well advised to spend a few dollars to secure a reservation online on a particular ferry so you don't have to wait any longer than necessary.
PUBLIC TRANSIT: You can get here by public transit, although it is less convenient than travelling by car. Get on the ferry at Horseshoe Bay as a "walk-on" for a modest charge, catch the bus that meets the ferry upon arrival, and get off a couple blocks from the beach house. The Malaspina bus service runs daily, and can pick up at Vancouver Airport (YVR), or downtown Vancouver and drop you off at the bus stop by the beach house, and take you back. There is a limited schedule, so please see their website for schedules. For local bus service schedules, see the B.C. Transit website.
FLOAT PLANE: If you are in a hurry to relax, or want to treat your group to a really special experience, arrive by float plane in Sechelt, and secure a taxi ride the 10 minutes to the beach house. If you are staying a few days at the beach house, but want to go into the big city of Vancouver for a day, take the float plane in to the heart of the city, landing near Canada Place in downtown Vancouver. The service also flies to and from Vancouver Airport (YVR) or across the Georgia Strait to Nanaimo. Indirect float plane service connects on to Whistler and Victoria. The views are exceptional and it is one of the best ways to see the coast, and have a really memorable experience. Check out the Harbour Air website as one of the larger providers.
BOAT: You likely already know how to get here! Nearest port less than 1 km away.
When you arrive, relax and enjoy soaking in the six person hot tub while watching the amazing sunsets and listening to the ocean lapping on your shore. Between sips of wine keep an eye out for passing orcas, dolphins, the occasional whale, seals and cruise ships.
Please be respectful of the surrounding natural beauty and the peaceful family neighbourhood. No loud parties, smoking,or pets (if you bring a pet you will asked to leave immediately and lose your deposit to cover having the house professionally cleaned due to serious allergies) Please respect this, thank you.
From Jul 4 - Aug 29, 2015 the minimum stay is 7 nights.
Loved this beach house!!! Martin gave clear instructions for the check-in and was very helpful with any concerns or questions we had during our stay. It is a very quiet and peaceful location. Did not see any orcas this trip :( , but lots of sea lions, ships and boats, the bald eagles and their nest :), that Martin suggested looking for. Would definitely rent this property again!!!
We were on a family trip and just loved Martin's place! A wonderful way to catch up with siblings and loved ones. The location is just perfect. Beautiful ocean front..hottub to soak in.. fire pit.. eagles nesting near by.. We loved cooking meals and dining in this thoughful and beautifully decorated space. I highly recommend this place for a relaxing get away. The only I would do differently is stay longer. .we didn't want to leave! Would totally come back!
Martin was a fantastic host and very accommodating even though he was in whistler he was reachable at any time .The beach house was amazing exactly as described very spacious and equipped with everything you could possibly need .The location was beautiful right on the beach where we enjoyed the use of the hot tub and BBQ and had a fire at night .The eagles nest right at our door was an extra bonus .
we (a muffle aged couple from France) spend 2,5 days in Sechelt for a weekend with pour son of 20 who is a student at UBC. We had a great weekend and enjoyed the nice location of the house by the beach, and magnificent sceneries in mountain hikes. We used the kayaks and it was really a nice opportunity. The house is comfortable and enjoyable as a whole.
However, we never saw our host: this lead to check out issues which have made the aftertaste of our stay rather bitter. I recommend you insist on having a proper check in and check out done by a human person which will undoubtedly allow 100 % enjoyment.
The bed in the master bedroom needs a change of mattress... and the heating can be quite tricky to set.
We loved our stay at Martin's beach house. We did not need anything. The house is well equipped loved the kitchen, the gas stove was a joy to cook on. This house is by far the best place I've stayed on AirBnB. You will want to stay longer. We kayaked, sat by a fire enjoyed the hot tub whilst enjoying good music and watching the sun set. The eagle's nest in a high tree towards the front of the house was also a treat, being able to watch the parent eagles bring food for their young from the deck of the house was a treat. We'll be back for sure.
