The Space

*Discount is available for students

*****This price you see is for two person. A bed is added to the room for an extra 3rd person. Extra price for the third guest is 22 dollar.*****

*The house where I live in, is in the center of Sultanahmet, but once inside you don`t notice it.... the house has some peacefulness that is different from all the business outside. The house is surrounded by a garden which adds to this peacefulness.

I have now a room extra for guests. Few years before, me and my ex-wife had hosting experience in this house for half a year. Now I am single and use the house as my atelier and my living space.

In the room is a two person bed with all clean sheets. The room is decorated with a couple of my paintings.. Next to the bed, entering the carpet, you find the fireplace. You can, after a day of Istanbul, watch in the fire and feel the warmth, before sleeping. The room has original thick stone walls. In the wall there are some niches, where if you want, you can light the oil lamps, giving their own atmosphere in the evening. The room has a very high ceiling, you enter with a small stairs, walking down, into the room, which adds to the unique character of the room. If you like to sing then this room has a good resonance.

***The price of the room includes breakfast with home made bread; the best quality drinking water( tap water is not drinkable in Istanbul); free wifi internet connection; woods for the fire place; bath robe; towels; bed sheets etc... and you can use the kitchen if you may wish to...

***The price of the room is quite good because the bathroom of the house is a bit small and to enter the bathroom you have to pass the kitchen. And the toilet is a French/ Turkish type crouching toilet which is very new for some people. But I can guarantee you that it is very hygienic and the shower has 24 hours warm water. . . If you have doubts about whether you will be comfortable or not, please write me so that I can inform you...

Beside the uniqueness of the house, the location is very very good. You can look it up in the map (Utangaç sokak). If you step outside the door of the house, you can see at your left the famous Blue Mosque. If you walk home in the night (Sultanahmet is a very safe area) you can see the seagulls flying around the towers of this famous old Mosque, like they were seen in old times. The Topkapi Palace is at the other end of the street. There are lots of famous hamams (bathhouses) around, where I can quide you to. You can walk to the famous bazaars that are around. The tramway is a few minutes away from the house, and can bring you fast to Taksim . The same for the ferries that you can reach easily, which can bring you to the Asian part or the islands. There are all kinds of restaurants around and if you want to eat lower budget I can suggest you restaurants that more the locals know. . . Please look at the map and you will see all is around. After two weeks people still didn't see everything, still places to explore (like ateliers near the little Aya Sofia, a sister mosque of the big Aya Sofia.. or the Mosaic museums).

*Children are very welcome. :)

*The garden has cats hanging around... And also I don't accept dogs, sorry.

**Wifi is available...

*Smoking only in the garden

*Children are very welcome. :)

Interaction with Guests

**If you have a knee injury, my place might not be for you, as there are two steps to your room, a step to the toilet and one floor of steps to the apartment. (My place is in the garden floor which is one floor lower then the street where there is the entrance of the building.)

Getting around

*How to reach: **From ATATÜRK airport take the metro from the airport and get down after few stations at ZEYTİNBURNU station. Then take the tramway to the Kabataş direction and get down at SULTANAHMET station, which is a few minutes walking distance from the house where I can pick you up. This way will take like 45-50 minutes.
If you decide to come with taxi, please contact me before...

*From Sabiha Gökçen airport, In front of the Sabiha Gökçen airport there are schedule buses that go to KADİKÖY. When you arrive at Kadıköy, you'll be near the port. From the ‘big’ port, there are ferries that goes to EMİNÖNÜ (which is a very beautiful journey) and then from Eminönü take the tramway to Sultanahmet, which is just few stations away. This way takes a bit more then a hour. And schedule bus is 8 tl per person (also there is normal bus goes to Kadıköy which is 4 tl per person + ferry is 3 tl per person + tram is 3tl per person... So it is 10tl or 14tl per person...

But if you happen to have much luggage then there is another option. There are other schedule busses from the airport which will take directly to my place. But these busses are 10euro each person, (so 30tl one person)… If you decide to come this way, please contact me Just note that this way takes at least 1:30 to 2 hours, because this bus will come all the way passing through the Bosporus Bridge.

Other Things to Note

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Het was een unieke ervaring om bij Ahmet te logeren. Locatie was super, 2 minuten lopen vanaf Blauwe Moskee.

  • We where greeted by Ahmet who is a lovely man with a lovely temperament and his very kind family and kittens.
The room was amazing and we had the most amazing night sleep. We where provided with a super breakie and spare keys.
The garden was really nice to sit in andf the house had a real artistic slant to it. Stimulating conversation with Ahmet and his wife reminded us why we choose to do air b&b in the first place. We loved communicating with Ahmet and he was so helpful in showing us where to go, transport and food recommendations. Ahmet is more of a freind now and will be welcome to stay with us when ever he wants to.

  • The apartment was beautifully located, and the room comfortable. All in all it provided a good base for our visit to the old town of Istanbul. Ahmed's description of the accommodation is accurate. However, in retrospect we would not have stayed there with complete knowledge, as we didn't like the bathroom (both size & being in the kitchen - squat toilet was OK, just where it was) & we felt awkward at times having the best room in a small apartment with three other people there (Ahmed's wife & child, as well as a visitor was there). Loved his wife (embarrassed can't recall her name & Ahmed didn't introduce her) Ahmed did provide some very good insights to the local spots & obviously put effort into being a good host.

  • Ahmet was a wonderful host that provided everything you could possible need and more. He was even thoughtful enough to make herbal tea for my partner at the time who was sick (it worked very well). The room felt very homey and the breakfast was fresh and generous. I highly recommend Ahmet as a host. Thankyou Ahmet.

  • Ahmet was a very gracious host. The room was clean and exactly as pictured. He was very helpful in helping us plan activities and giving recommendations on how to use the public transportation. He even had a transit card available for us to use. It save us having to purchase the card - all we had to do was put some money on it for our use. I recommend Ahmet for anyone looking to stay in the Sultanahmet area of Istanbul.

  • My girlfriend and I stayed with Ahmet for 3 nights to start our month long trip throughout Europe. We couldn't have been more happy with the room. It was exactly as it was described, and we couldn't have asked for a more generous and respectful host. Ahmet made delicious fresh bread in the mornings along with a perfect breakfast to start our day. He asked us what time we would like to eat the day before so he knew when to have it prepared for us. Because it was our first time in Istanbul, when we arrived he had tea for us in the garden and went through maps and things to do while we were there. It was incredibly helpful, and the map ended up being incredibly necessary for us. We highly recommend this beautiful and quaint room with the most selfless and genuine host in Istanbul.

  • Ahmet is a most gracious hot. He prepares a healthy and delicious breakfast daily with homemade bread and always assists with tourist information. I highly recommend his place.

  • Ahmet welcomed us into his home with some lovely tea and honey with bread. Our room was clean, very large and had a great siting/dining area by a large window. Ahmet is very thoughtful - he even included a variety of teas and a hairdryer in our room. The bathroom is tiny but clean, and it is a squatting toilet (no seat) which wasn't an issue for us.
Great breakfasts daily, good wifi, amazing location, located right by Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. Would definitely recommend.

  • The appartment is very central, it is ideal to visit istanbul. If you can deal with the bathroom you will like this place!

Painting, translating, hosting
Hello dear Hosts. :) I have an extra room for you... Little bit about Ahmet: I use to paint a lot. You can take a look at my works from 'face' if you type PainterAhmetCinar... I also use to play in child teather and do/ teach pantomime. But since a year, I am more focusing on my energy on finding more better ways to eat healthier, doing paintings, meditating and making translations and subtitles for videos. (English to Turkish) I make bread at home myself (for more then a year) I can show how to do it to anybody that is interested to learn. It is actually very easy once you try :)... And I try to eat organic as possible as I can... To my guests I give organic ingredients for breakfast... yum yum :) I am eating vegetarian since September 2012 and I am very happy about it. :) I like to host and of course meet different kind of people. That is also a reason why I keep the price low, so that it is attractive for more different kind of people. ***For children it is very possible to make a separate bed. They are very much welcome. I never mind if they go running in the house or make things fall etc... Love to you all.. If you have more questions or want to make more contact, you are welcome to write...
