*The house where I live in, is in the centre of Sultanahmet, but once inside you don`t notice it.... the house has some peacefulness that is different from all the business outside. The house is surrounded by a garden which adds to this peacefullness.
I am a painter who now has a room extra for guests. Few years before, me and my ex-wife had hosting experience in this house for half a year. Now I am single and use the house as my atelier and my living space.
In the room is a two person bed with all clean sheets. The room is decorated wıth a couple of my paintings.. Next to the bed, entering the carpet, you find the fireplace. You can, after a day of Istanbul, watch in the fire and feel the warmth, before sleeping. The room has original thick stone walls. In the wall there are some niches, where if you want, you can light the oil lamps, giving there own atmosphere in the evening. The room has a very high ceiling, you enter with a small stairs, walking down, into the room, which adds to the unique character of the room. If you like to sing then this room has a good resonance.
***The price of the room includes breakfast with home made bread; the best quality drinking water( tap water is not drinkable in Istanbul); free wifi internet connection; woods for the fire place; bath robs; towels; bed sheets etc... and you can use the kitchen if you may wish to...
***The price of the room is quiet good because the bathroom of the house is a bit small and to enter the bathroom you have to pass the kitchen. And the toilet is a French/ Turkish type crouching toilet which is very new for some people. But I can guarantee you that it is very hygenic and the shower has 24 hours warm water. . . If you have doubts about whether you will be comfortable or not, please write me so that I can inform you...
Beside the uniqueness of the room, the location is very very good. You can look it up in the map (Utangaç sokak). If you step outside the door of the house, you can see at your left the famous Blue Mosque. If you walk home in the night (Sultanahmet is a very safe area) you can see the seagulls flying around the towers of this famous old Mosque, like they were seen in old times. The Topkapi Palace is at the other end of the street. There are lots of famous hamams (bathhouses) around, where I can quide you to. You can walk to the famous bazaars that are around. The tramway is a few minutes away from the house, and can bring you fast to Taksim . The same for the ferries that you can reach easily, which can bring you to the Asian part or the islands. There are all kinds of restaurants around and if you want to eat more low budget I can suggest you restaurants, that probably more the locals know. . . Please look at the map and you will see all is around. After two weeks people still didnt see everything, still places to explore (like ateliers near the little Aya Sofia, a sister mosque of the big Aya Sofia.. or the Mosaic museums).
*Children are very welcome. :)
*The house and the garden has cats hanging around. Please skip my add if you are not comfortable with them... And also I dont accept dogs, sorry.
*****Wifi is available...
*Smoking only in the garden
**If you have a knee injury, my place might not be for you, as there are two steps to your room, a step to the toilet and one floor of steps to the apartment. (My place is in the garden floor which is one floor lower then the street where there is the entrance of the building.)
*Children are very welcome. :)
*How to reach: *From ATATÜRK airport, there are two ways to come. 1) If you don't have much luggage, take the metro from the airport and get down after few stations at ZEYTİNBURNU station. Then take the tramway to the Kabataş direction and get down at SULTANAHMET station, which is a few minutes walking distance from the house where I can pick you up. This way will take like 45-50 minutes and will cost you to tokens. 2)Take a taxi/ a cab and tell the taxi driver to bring you to the main entrance of Arasta bazaar, where I will meet you. Taxi arrival time is 25-40 minutes, depends on the traffic.
*From Sabiha Gökçen airport, don't take a taxi which would be very unnecessary. In front of the airport there are buses that go to Taksim square or Kadiköy port. So you have two choises. 1) If you choise to come to Kadiköy, from there take the ferry to Eminönü (which is a very beautifull journey) and then from Eminönü take the tramway to Sultanahmet where I can pick you up. This way takes a bit more then a hour. 2) If you come to Taksim square, taxi is the easiest occasion which costs around 15 tl... Otherwise walk few minutes to the metro, get on the finuculer for one station to Kabataş and then switch to the tramway to Sultanahmet.
*Smoking only in the garden
*Wifi is available
Ahmet and his family are fantastic hosts. The house is perfectly located for site seeing. It is rusticly charming - a real local experience!
My boyfriend and I stayed at Ahmet's for 4 nights. It's hard to find something new that others haven't already mentioned, but we did have a slightly different experience because Ahmet's daughter and wife were visiting. We enjoyed speaking with them and felt welcome and part of the family. Each day, we felt as though we were returning to our own home in Istanbul. The room, with its lived-in decor and small personal touches (as well as the occasional cat visitors), is a window into Turkish life. Yes, the toilet is a downside (and the bathroom is small even by Manhattan standards), but being that my boyfriend and I have both spent significant time in Asia, it wasn't a dealbreaker. The location was unbeatable -- the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia were part of our neighborhood rather than just sites we sought out once. The Sultanahmet tram is a short walk away and connects to Beyoglu, though you can walk to many sites as well. Ahmet's advice and the resources he provided more than made up for lapses in our planning. Thank you, Ahmet!
This is a very comfortable room, a lot of nice things are handmade by Ahmet. Breakfast was tasty with bread made by Ahmet. The room is very warm in winter and there has a door that you can pass to the yard. There is a superb roof terrace which you can see wonderful view.
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time in Istanbul at Ahmet's place. The room was beautiful, big yet cosy, with a very uniquely restorated look (old brick walls and a self-made fireplace). Ahmet is a great host, who can tell you lots about the nicer places to see in Istanbul from an insider's perspective. I also recommend the breakfast, which is delicious. All and all, we were very satisfied!
Best location in Istanbul, best price and best host. Don't look further and book Ahmet's room! I am recommending it to my friends.
We had a fantastic trip to Istanbul. Ahmet was a brilliant and friendly host who helped us learn the language and informed us about specific attractions to visit. Location is fantastic - nestled in the centre of the old town - and the public transport system makes travelling within Istanbul so easy (walking is also a realistic option!).
The bedroom was perfectly described and Ahmet's flat was comfortable and warm. His morning breakfast was great, in addition to his special tea!
It was such a great experience to stay at Ahmet's B&B: big breakfast with freshly home-made bread; good location so you see Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia every day and night nearby; in the central of old city but surprisedly quiet with garden and blue sky view; the room is big, cozy and original; Ahmet is kind and very helpful in providing (email hidden)c. We had a great time here!
Ahmet's place is great, for many reasons:
The host. Ahmet is really generous and dedicated. He is always willing to help and share insider recommendations of the city and places. He makes great bread ;), is great company and overall a great guy.
The Location. It's simply perfect. Transportation is easy too, but mainly it's right in the middle of everything, perfect spot for just getting out and walking around. Surprisingly quiet neighborhood.
The accommodations. Are exactly as described by Ahmet. The room is very comfortable and full of cozy details. The bathroom is old style and not exactly romantic, but clean and functional.
Absolutely, the real Airbnb deal!
The location was great. Although Sultanahmet was not budget friendly for culinary, but Eminonu was only few minutes away by tram where we could get cheap food at Spice Market or hawker around Galata Bridge.
Ahmet was a kind host, we got original Turkish breakfast and high speed Wifi access.
I absolutely loved staying with Ahmet in his apartment. The location of his place is perfect. It is on a quiet street just off Sultanahmet and aya sofia. Everything is in walking distance. I loved staying there because it felt authentic and made me feel like I was actually staying in Turkey, and not some/any hotel. The apartment itself and the room I stayed in were just as described by Ahmet. I had a great stay and I look forward to come back at some point. Thanks for a wonderful time and conversations!
