Welcome! This apartment will suit a short term eco-conscious traveller and visitor to Sydney. The sofa futon in the living room, which is ideal for ONE person (no couple).
I live in a modern 2 bedroom apartment with a flatmate in Redfern (5 minute walk to Central Station (city centre), Redfern station, close to shopping centre, pubs, restaurants, amenities).
Comes with a fully equipped gym and pool - which is an added bonus so you can unwind and have a work out during your stay. There is also a vegetable/herb garden on the Rooftop, which you are welcome to take when cooking. It is next to a four-lane road and sometimes can be noisy (although it quietens down at night).
When booking, please remember:
1. It's a couch and not a room (no privacy)
2. Let me know your sleeping hours as my computer is next to the kitchen area - if you are a very light sleeper, please book the room instead.
3. There are car and train noises from the balcony - some people have no issues with it and some do.
4. In summer, we do some mosquitos.
4. If you have any issues, please tell me as I can't read minds, and would prefer you to ask than for you to have a bad stay.
Ideally this would suit:
1. Low key
3. Easy going
4. Down to earth
6. Sustainability-minded traveller
7. Non-smoker and mature traveller who is sensible and clean up after themselves
A bit about the area Redfern: traditionally, it has been known for being a shady area, but in the past 10 year has seen major changes and gentrification. These days, its a hip place with lot of trendy bars, cafes, parks but still retaining its affordability in price. There is an cheap Chinese vegetable grocer, Vietnamese bread shop, local independent grocery store and organic cafes nearby.
If you are booking with me, please write more about yourself, the reason you're visiting Sydney and add a picture of yourself too. I'd like to know who I'm sharing my space with. It will be nice if you treat the house like your own.
Please print a map from (website hidden) map, if you're coming by taxi or train to ensure you don't get lost.
VIA TAXI: Get dropped (email hidden). You will spot the entrance via the glass doors with "Signature Apartments".
VIA TRAIN: The nearest stop is Redfern station. After coming out of station, turn right until you hit Regent St, then take Wells St, and then left to Renwick St. Entrance is mid way on Renwick St.
1. Enjoy and always bring a smile during your stay!
2. Try to live more sustainably - this means no plastic bags in the house. I can provide green bags.
3. No dryer - only hand dry clothes.
4. Buy fresh where possible, and not tinned or packaged.
5. Please take short showers.
6. Please print out a map from (website hidden) Map so you don't get lost.
Kevin is nice and so is his apartment's central location, but the accommodations are less than ideal, considering the price. You're sleeping on an uneven couch equipped with an old sheet and stained blanket (both of which hadn't been cleaned since the last guest had slept on them) and without an actual pillow (just some square throw cushions). The apartment is located right next to a highway and a train track so it's noisy all day and night - the floor even rattles a little every time a train goes by. The only way to have fresh air at night is to leave the balcony door open, which makes the street noise even louder, and since there's no screen on the door, I got several mosquito bites during the night. I've done a lot of (website hidden) and I don't mind very basic accommodations, but the price has to reflect that. Hostels offer much better amenities for half the price.
Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. Will make those urgent changes to the place & couch. It was a miscommunication with my and Javier that I thought the sheets were replaced. As for the noise, I had already warned guests in my profile about the train and traffic noise - and I had even reminded you about it. But you insisted on booking the couch (website hidden): mosquitoes, I hadn't had problems in the past but just in the recent year and which is why I bought the coils which you were didn't use. If you wanted more (ie towels, pillow, blanket) or had issues, all you needed to do as ask as I can't read guest's mind and I would have tried to rectify the situation. Your comments seems to be a reaction towards me, as I could clearly tell we didn't have very good chemistry.
Kevin is a great host! He is very experienced with hosting travelers and was quick to respond when I arrived. The sofa couch has lots of pillows and pretty comfortable. The train station is within a couple blocks -- great for getting around the city! The sliding door opens to a little patio with lots of plants -- also faces the train tracks so keep that in mind. Overall, everyone was really respectful of the fact that the couch/living room was where I was sleeping. His apartment is in a secure building with a lap pool and an air-conditioned gym.
Room with friendly hosts on a good location and with an impressive balcony garden.
Kevin was an absolute pleasure to stay with. He made my first week in Sydney a joy. The location is perfect, and his hospitality should be commended. If you're looking for an inexpensive place to crash while also interacting with warm hearted people, look no further than this posting.
Kevin was a really nice host, the appartment and everything in it was exactly as he described and the couch really is as comfortable as a couch can be.
The railwaystation is near by so you have a good connection to the city center and everything you want to go to. Even if you don't use the train, it is only a 15 minute walk to the center.
Unfortunatly the appartment is a little noisy due to the fact that the railway station is nearby.
As he describes this is not a room, only a couch so don't be dissapointed if you come to this perception.
Personally I enjoyed my stay and can definitely recommend sleeping at Kevins place.
Kevin was a great host, he stayed up late to let me and after my flight was delayed and he was even able to direct me to some delicious late night eats. The place was nice, clean, cozy and perfectly located just two blocks from the nearest train station and within walking distance of downtown Sydney. I had a great stay.
Kevin is a great. He is hospitable, easygoing, and a delight to spend time with. He's also smart, curious and a great conversationalist, so you'll never be bored in his presence. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Thanks Kevin!

I've moved countries twice in the span of 10 years and I've begun to realise that meeting new people and living in new environments is really what makes me tick. I work in a communication/design sector. I live in a 2-bedroom apartment and had the opportunity to meet and host a countless number of travellers. I am interested in living a sustainable life, so hopefully I can influence people around me to live sustainably.
