  • Susana (email hidden)e gave us helpful information about places to visit. In addition, she cooked a magnificent paella for us on the rooftop terrace, as we sipped some good Spanish wine. Check-in and check-out were easy. The beach is an easy drive or about a 15 minute walk. There is an awesome fresh market open daily about three minutes from the house. The house was very roomy for 8 of us. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms.

  • Wonderful large home in a local neighborhood accommodated our extended family of 10 people perfectly. Susana taught us to make paella one night and baked a fantastic chocolate cake for our son's 30th birthday! She and Alex are welcoming, convivial, helpful and full of good advice. We loved living like locals, wheeling the grocery cart to the market, having a cafe con leche and a postre at the bakery on the corner, walking to the beach (Susana supplied beach towels, umbrella, bucket/shovels). It is fantastic to have 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, with room to spare--suited our large group perfectly, especially the large table that easily seated 10. The kids (ages 5-13) liked hanging out on the upstairs terrace and playing with the little mini-pool set. Neighborhood is typico...Saturday night was noisy until 2 or 3 a.m., but we also got to see some local women at their castanets class, kids playing futbol in the pedestrian street, locals having churros y chocolate. This is not a swank, upscale neighborhood (if you want that, book the 5-star, expensive hotel you walk past to get to the beach), but if you want to live and feel local, this is your place. The rooms are exactly as pictured, the beds are nicely firm (we have back problems, so we appreciated that), the bathrooms are modern, the showers are great and have plenty of hot water. During our stay, a hard-to-reach lightbulb burned out and a showerhead had problems, but both were corrected immediately by Alex. Occasionally there is a dank smell, the towels may be thin, the kitchen is small, a couple pans didn't get washed by the previous occupant, there were some dust bunnies on the floor, and one of the beds squeaked...but these are minor things. You can't beat the location, the local feel of the place and the warmth of the owners. Have tapas at the Gastro pub nearby, order bicycles delivered to your door, take the metro to the old town, visit Gulliver's Park with the kids, take advantage of the Arts and Sciences complex, get a bag of fat oranges from the market and make yourself some freshly-squeezed juice, schedule a day to have Susana teach you how to make paella, put on your flip-flops any time and walk 10 min. to the beach, and at night, lounge on the upstairs terrace after dark with a glass of good Spanish wine and view a bazillion stars. We had a fantastic time in this big welcoming house and would book it again in a heartbeat. Matter of fact, we're a little bit jealous that somebody else gets to be there now. :)

I have been traveling on my own since I was 15. I suppose I have always had the need for new cultures, because I already moved out of my country when I was 9, and have been living in different countries since then. I am Cuban married to a Spaniard. Both my husband and I have lived in Venezuela, USA, Cuba, Mexico, Italy, Switzerland, and different cities in Spain. We like to travel every time we have a chance, love to discover new cultures, learn from them and share my experiences at home. My hobbies are cooking and gardening. When staying with us I will share my cooking secrets with you. I grew up in Miami, born in Cuba and have lived in Spain with my husband for over 25 years with great memories and experience in this country which I now consider my own. My husband loves history and music. His hobby is reading and writing, and he loves to share his knowledge with our guests. We are both teachers and you can learn Spanish while staying with us at our 1900 style beach house or at Villa Susana which are our homes. (CLASSES ARE NOT INCLUDED) My husband and I are retired teachers who now take care of our family properties our Home Villa Susana, two beach properties: One small cottage in the Coast of Castellon, half way between Barcelona and Valencia and my sons apartment on the Malvarrosa Beach area in Valencia During your stay at our home (Villa Susana or at 1900´s style beach house) you will discover freshly made recipes prepared to your likes. I will try to surprise you with a new experience every day. And if you are staying in Valencia and would love to learn how to cook Paella we can arrange to prepare one together so you can learn the art of this local dish and prepare it for your friends when you go back home. We speak English and Italian,.
