Interaction with Guests
Whether you're looking for fun, romance, or rest and relaxation, we do our best to provide the right setting for you. Some of our guests come for a romantic get-away. We give them lots of privacy and provide a beautiful, spacious, peaceful place. Some of our guests come and live with us and we end up sharing meals, sharing stories, making music, and having fun together. Just let us know!
Shelburne Falls is a very unique place. The Deerfield River flows down the middle of the town, cascading down through huge rocks worn into beautiful formations. Our "Bridge of Flowers" is an old trolley bridge, perfect for an early evening walk over the river surrounded by all the latest blooms. There's a touch of something old fashion here that we love. We don't have chain stores - just locally owned restaurants and small businesses with lots of character. In three blocks, we have several great restaurants, a coffee house with great musicians coming through, a food co-op, a small supermarket, a pottery studio, a glass blower, an art gallery, lots of alternative medical practitioners, and more. We don't have a mayor - just three people on our Select Board who implement the decisions we make together at our annual town meeting. It's a place where you can relax, breathe deeply, and let your worries go. Berkshire East ski slope is close by. Our town is great for walking and biking. Great hikes are close by too.
You can get local bus service from Northampton, Amherst and Greenfield to Shelburne Falls on the Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA). There are only a couple buses each day when they run. Check the schedule here: (website hidden). The JWO Transit Center is in Greenfield. Shelburne Falls is on the Charlemont/Greenfield route.
Other Things to Note
We have spent a lot of time figuring ways to live more wisely in our home, investing in a solar hot water system that provides most of our hot water six months of the year, lots of insulation, window and door upgrades, natural cooling systems, composting, and permaculture gardens. When you stay with us, you probably won't notice any of these things unless you look for them, but you might notice that our home feels comfortable and cozy year round.
No smoking. No pets. Quiet Hours from 11 pm to 7 am.
Had a wonderful stay in Lynn's home. Didn't actually get to meet Lynn and Dan--their friend Patrica welcomed us and helped us settle in. We were in the area for a wedding and their location in Shelburne Falls was perfect for getting to other hill towns in the area. Their home was a wonderful home base for our trip -- very clean, welcoming and comfy! We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the common areas. Cats Charlie and Ivy were great company! Shelburne Falls is a great town. Loved walking around town and showing my daughter the Bridge of Flowers and the glacial pot holes. Highly recommend their place!
We had a wonderful 2 night stay in Lynn's lovely home. Lynn was able to accommodate our large group (5 moms and 5 teenage girls) comfortably. It served well as our home base while we visited colleges in the area. We felt at ease and welcomed, sharing the house with Lynn, Dan and Shakira, and would recommend it to others.
Our stay was perfect! Lynn's home is very welcoming and comfortable. My 4 year old was thrilled about Lynn taking him with her to collect eggs from her chickens. We really felt at home and relaxed hanging out in the living and dining room. Lynn and Dan were terrific hosts.
I had such a wonderful time staying in Lynn's home. I loved getting to meet her mother, both of the cats, and all the chickens. The house is beautiful and homey and so thoughtfully arranged for guests. When I asked for a local lunch suggestion, I got great advice. I am already looking forward to booking Lynn's home again next year.
My wife and I were visiting our son at Hampshire College. It was about a 30 minute drive from the college to Lynn's. She was there to greet us and showed us to our room. We had a very large private room in the front of the house with a big bed that was great to sleep in (it seemed like a new mattress). There was a half bath across the hall from our room which was convenient. We had a great sleep in the quite room and were pleasantly surprised in the morning to find a full spread of food for breakfast, including home made buns and spreads. Lynn is very pleasant to chat with and made our stay comfortable. I give high marks to her home as a place to stay if you are in the area.

Lynn and Dan are very welcoming hosts who truly enjoy being with people. They have a fluid household with airbnb guests, Lynn's mom, chickens and two cats, and it flows smoothly due to Lynn's warm-heartedness and flexibility. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast on the side porch with them on Sunday morning, with the chickens who had provided the eggs for the omelet clucking contentedly nearby plus the garden providing fresh herbs and swiss chard in front of us. This was accompanied by Lynn's delicious fresh hot scones and good conversation.
Our room was comfortable and a good size with great black-out curtains which allowed us to sleep in - something we rarely do. The house is less than a mile walk to downtown Shelburne Falls, an extremely charming small town that gave us many pleasant hours of strolling around the shops and dining in delicious local eateries. We loved the famous Bridge of Flowers - the dahlias were stunning.
Overall, we were very pleased with our experience. Lynn and Dan are good at providing company and/or privacy as needed, plus Lynn offered us the use of the kitchen if we wanted to cook our own dinner. We're happy we met them.

My partner, Dan, and I share our home with my mother, Shakira, and our cat, Charlie. We also have seven chickens living out back who provide us with fresh eggs most mornings. Our five children are grown, so we enjoy having people come to visit, to share our beautiful home with us. Our friend Patricia helps people get settled in when we're away. Dan's an acupuncturist and loves helping people become healthier and happier. A long time ago Dan was a carpenter, but he still loves to build things at our house, like the front porch that welcomes people to our home. I manage Co-op Power, an energy cooperative that helps communities in southern New England create the energy systems they want in their (website hidden)-op Power provides energy efficiency services (including MassSave), biodiesel and heating fuel buying groups, solar installations, and community solar project development. I really love the work and enjoy talking with people about how we can live more simply and more equitably together on this planet. I was a teacher years ago, teaching math, math education, and community economic development from caring for infants in my home daycare through graduate courses for teachers and students at MIT. My mom used to teach middle school years ago, and then lived on an ashram in India for 14 years. (She's really fun to talk to.) We love gardening, building things, fixing things, learning, spending time with family and friends, and making music. We're really into using resources wisely - composting, natural cooling systems, growing our own food, using biodiesel in one of our cars, and sharing what we have. We do lots of volunteer work in our community. Dan enjoys soccer and basketball. Patricia is a writer, a gardener, and a mother of 3.
