About this listing

Large suite of rooms on the top floor of our Georgian Grade II listed house in Kendal town centre quietly tucked away at the head of an historic cobbled yard. Double bedroom, huge adjoining living room (with basic kitchenette and double sofa bed) and modern bathroom all for the exclusive use of our guests. Free parking.

The space

Although the suite is part of our house, it is private and self contained with its own access so you can come and go as you please.

The suite can comfortably accommodate 4 people with 1 double bedroom, large private living room (28ft x 21ft - 8.5m x 6.5m) with basic kitchenette and double sofa bed and a modern private bathroom.

Please note: there are no cooking or washing up facilities in the suite. Crockery and cutlery is provided for breakfast and/or takeaway food and we collect and do the washing up for you when requested!

All rooms have double height ceilings with exposed beams, great views across Kendal's rooftops to the hills beyond and plenty of character.

The living room has 2 large lounging sofas (one of which opens to a comfortable double bed) a 48" Smart HD TV and DVD player and kitchenette with fridge, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine and Aeroccino milk frother, toaster, crockery and cutlery. The bedroom has a double bed, flat screen TV and digital radio. The bathroom has a large free-standing bath with hand held shower, twin sinks, underfloor heating and glass towel warmer.

Towels, bed linen, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, universal travel adaptor and hot water bottles are provided. Wi-fi.

You'll find a large selection of DVDs under the coffee table and an array of local interest books, leaflets and maps which you are welcome to use during your stay.

Help-yourself-breakfast is provided for each day of your stay at no extra cost (homemade bread, butter and preserves, fresh fruit, cereal, milk, local yoghurts, fruit juices, black and herbal teas and a selection of Nespresso coffees). There are ice cubes in the freezer compartment of the fridge.

Please take a look at our guidebook for details of local restaurants and eateries we recommend.

We own a miniature Dachshund (very small). Her name is Miss Saveloy Sausage or Savvy for short. She is very quiet, friendly and adores children but is never allowed in the suite (she can't get up the stairs - they are too big)!

Interaction with guests

I run my graphic design business, Dada Design, from home so I'm around if you need anything. When my work load allows, I love to spend time with guests and get to know them better, but I'm also sensitive if guests prefer their privacy. We've found texting is the perfect way to communicate with guests during their stay so a verified mobile number is very useful.

Other things to note

We are close to the border with Scotland - Edinburgh and Glasgow are approx 2 hours away by train or car.

Had a brilliant weekend in the Lake District based out of Kendal. You need a car to get in an around the Lake District most easily but the accommodation itself is great. Merv gave us an amazing welcome, the small touches with juice, home made bread, jams etc was brilliant. Would absolutely recommend, a great place to stay owned by great people.

I had a fabulous stay with Caryn and Merv. I'd come to Kendal in order to seek out Sheepfolds by Andy Goldsworthy. Caryn offered Merv's services and he was wonderful. He did research on the locations and we had 2 days of beautiful scenery and wonderful company. Colour House itself is a joy. With an incredible bathroom, comfortable bed and generally beautiful inspiring decor. Plus walkable to dining and shops. I must return!

Response from Caryn:
Thanks so much Nancy - we are both glad you enjoyed your trip to Kendal and it was a true pleasure to meet you. I'm sure Merv enjoyed your trips out as much as you did! You will always be welcome at Colour House!

I've been a freelance graphic designer for the past 30 years and began my career in the music industry freelancing for Virgin, EMI and Rough Trade Records, designing record sleeves for bands including The Smiths and Everything but the Girl.

Originally from London, I've been living in the Lake District for 20 years now and run my business, Dada Design, from home in Kendal working for a number of clients large and small in and around Cumbria. I live with my husband, Merv, who is a gardener.

We are very flattered by the wonderful reviews we've been getting from our airbnb guests and really enjoy opening our house to people from around the world.

LOVES: Great design, architecture, gardens. PLACES: Barcelona, Ragusa, Rome.
