Interaction with Guests
I run my graphic design business, Dada Design, from home so I'm around if you need anything. When my work load allows, I love to spend time with guests and get to know them better, but I'm also sensitive if guests prefer their privacy. We've found texting is the perfect way to communicate with guests during their stay so a verified mobile number is very useful.
There is a superb supermarket 2 minutes walk away that stocks a wide variety of local and specialist produce and has an excellent cheese counter, deli section and off licence. Kendal's bustling high street is one minute's walk away where you'll find plenty of shops, a library, the post office and several banks. There's a Costa on the main high street and Caffe Nero is in the marketplace. It's worth exploring Kendal's historic yards where you'll find many of our more individual retailers and businesses.
The market town of Kendal lies just outside the spectacular Lake District National Park, has plenty of pubs, cafés, takeaways and restaurants, 2 museums, a leisure centre with swimming pool, golf course, the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and the Brewery Arts Centre with a theatre, cinemas, art galleries, bars and a regular live music programme (visit the breweryarts website). There are plenty of places to explore with lovely parks (Kendal Castle, Serpentine Woods and Noble's Rest) and pleasant walks along the river Kent right on our doorstep. There is a street market every Wednesday and Saturday and a farmer's market once a month.

My friends and I had a wonderful time staying at the Colour House! Caryn kept in touch with us to make sure we could find her place. She created a BEAUTIFUL space in her home - from homemade bread, an assortment of breakfast foods and drinks to a pristine and tastefully decorated place. Caryn is a great host!
We were greeted with a smile and an open door as we walked up the lane to Colour House, which was a lovely start to our stay. The suite was clean and fully equipped, and we loved the decor – it was almost enough to make us want to stay inside rather than explore the area! The homemade loaf of bread (among the generous amount of breakfast options) and local tea were a particular highlight, and the extras in the bathroom cupboard were a great touch. The leaflets in the suite for local attractions were useful, as were the takeaway menus! The sofas were incredibly comfortable (without even pulling out into sofabed), as was the bed.
It's a lovely area – the view from the house really is as spectacular as the pictures.
We'd definitely recommend a walk up to the Kendal Castle ruins – the views over Kendal are beautiful.
We didn't have a car, but the location of Colour House meant we didn't really need one. We relied on walking and the train, which worked well for us, as it meant we didn't have to worry about parking or who was going to have to miss out on the local beer!
Thank you so much for your hospitality, Caryn – we'll definitely be recommending you to any friends who want to visit the Lakes.
This was our first Airbnb experience and we could not have been happier.
Caryn and Merv are really great hosts and made sure that our holiday was a perfect one.
Upon arrival and due to unreliable sat nav it was Merv who jumped into our car for showing us the right way from the back to the front door of the house which was a drive through the village. There we met Caryn and both showed us to the apartment which was really amazing. We had all we need and could not ask for more.
We had a fantastic stay at Colour House and highly recommend same to anybody looking for a pleasant /cosy / stunning accomodation when going to the lakes. We really much enjoyed and loved our time (especially the last evening of our stay) - thank you again Caryn and Merv!
We have just returned from a 2 night amazing stay at Colour house in Kendal. The space is huge and quirky and we loved it. We received a friendly greeting from Caryn and Merv as soon as we arrived. We were supplied with home made bread and other goodies. They didn't even bat an eye lid when we accidentally set off the fire alarm early in the morning!!! We would definitely recommend colour house and we hope to return soon. Angela and Paul
The apartment was amazing, beautifully decorated and very well stocked. Caryn even baked us a very delicious loaf of bread! The welcome was warm and Caryn & her husband were always friendly and available. Great experience!
Another fantastic stay at Colour House. I recommend this to all my friends - Caryn's welcome, the fascinating decor, the quality of the accommodation, the home made bread, the view over Kendal, the garden - I could go on but it really is unique & a privilege to stay in. Follow directions though as it's hard to find
We were delighted with our stay in the lovely Colour House suite! Caryn and her husband made us feel taken care of right away by carrying a broken and very heavy suitcase up a flight of stairs (and then recommending a place in town to buy a new one!). Caryn provided breakfast in the morning that included delicious homemade bread, and a tea kettle, espresso machine and milk frother were available along with a large selection of coffee and tea. The suite is large and airy, beautifully decorated, and has amenities including a large television and a fridge. While there is no kitchen, the fridge and food area make it easy to prepare cold meals. It has a beautiful view of the quaint town of Kendal. We found it an easy bus ride of about 30 minutes to get to Windermere and hike. I would highly recommend the Colour House suite to anyone looking for a comfortable place with friendly hosts!
