I run my graphic design business, Dada Design, from home so I'm around much of the time if you need anything. While I love to chat with guests and get to know them better, I'm also sensitive if guests prefer their privacy. We've found texting is the perfect way to communicate with guests during their stay so a verified mobile number is very useful.
We have a Cocker Spaniel called Pookie who is mad but very friendly. She is only allowed in the suite if you invite her!
There is a superb supermarket 2 minutes walk away that stocks a wide variety of local and specialist produce and has an excellent cheese counter, deli section and off licence. Kendal's bustling high street is one minute's walk away where you'll find plenty of shops, a library, the post office and several banks. There's a Costa on the main high street and Caffe Nero is in the marketplace. It's worth exploring Kendal's historic yards where you'll find many of our more individual retailers and businesses.
The market town of Kendal lies just outside the spectacular Lake District National Park, has plenty of pubs, cafés, takeaways and restaurants, 2 museums, a leisure centre with swimming pool, golf course, the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and the Brewery Arts Centre with a theatre, cinemas, art galleries, bars and a regular live music programme (visit the breweryarts website). There are plenty of places to explore with lovely parks (Kendal Castle, Serpentine Woods and Noble's Rest) and pleasant walks along the river Kent right on our doorstep. There is a street market every Wednesday and Saturday and a farmer's market once a month.

We had the most amazing stay at the Colour House. First of all, Caryn and Marv were the perfect hosts who made us feel so welcomed and provided more than we could ask for. The room itself shows the artistic flair from both Caryn and Marv, it felt and looked like a Dreamhouse. We knew the house was gonna be beautiful (from the photos) but it was the little details such as all the soaps, the hug variety of tea and the snacks provided that made our stay so wonderful. Also, the location is really central with many food choices nearby and also not too far a drive from Windermere.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone to stay here and would love to visit again sometime in the future. Thanks for everything Caryn & Marv x
I could not imagine a more wonderful place to stay in the Lake District. A real home from home, Colour House was the perfect refuge from the (predictable) wet British Weather. Caryn and Marv made us very welcome. Design enthusiasts will appreciate the beautiful attention to detail, those who enjoy their home comforts will feel very spoiled indeed. Particularly loved the heated bathroom flooring and xtreme TV screen. Will definitely be coming back!
Just came back from a 4 day getaway in the Lake districts. I don't usually leave reviews but because my stay at the Colour House has been wonderful, I thought I'd share. Caryn and Merv, were great hosts and extremely attentive, giving us lots of privacy and also offering help when needed. The suite is beautiful and cosy and has everything you could possibly want, situated very close to the town centre for easy access to all amenities. Colour House is a great place to relax and also a very convenient place to tour the lakes.
I would highly recommend anyone to stay.
P.S Thank you Caryn and Merv for the afternoon tea, we enjoyed the chat!
The place was fantastic and Caryn and Merv could not have done more - nothing was too much trouble. Think I'm missing being at Colour House now I'm home:( We will be back xxx
Wow it was a great place. We were impressed by house - so little town and so high quality place. Many thanks to Caryn and Merv as the were always ready to help and we felled good in the house. So we had more than expected. If we ll go to the Lakes again - only Color house!
Our stay at Colour House was just perfect! Everything from the friendly communication prior to our arrival, the warm welcome, the beautiful apartment and helpful recommendations during our stay was first class. You can obviously tell from the photos that the place is going to be nice, but it's the little touches and attention to detail that really make this apartment stand out - luxurious toiletries, top notch breakfast supplies, lots of candles, chilled water in the fridge and even ice cubes. The location is great being very central with lots of nice restaurants and cafes nearby. I warmly recommend Caryn's place and hope to return in the future.
The Colour House is fantastic! and Caryn and Merv brilliant warm welcoming hosts. I had a perfect stay in a truly stunning apartment, unusual to find such a liberating, confident and joyful environment full of creative imagination.. this is a special place.
The Colour House is a really nice place to stay. It is relatively easy to find, but parking is tricky - thankfully Merv was able to assist. The suite is self contained and has everything you need for a short stay. Caryn and Merv were very friendly and helpful and I would stay there again. Recommended.
Fantastic place to stay and excellent value for money. The hosts, Caryn and Merv are wonderful people and they helped me out a lot by not only giving me two lifts (to Oxenholme station and also the leisure center!) but also posting a phone charger I'd left behind the next day. Brilliant location, facilities and I found breakfast first class too. The decor as well is modern, quirky and memorable. I think I've run out of superlatives for this place! Stay there if you can...
