Large suite of rooms on the top floor of our Georgian Grade II listed house in Kendal town centre quietly tucked away at the head of an historic cobbled yard. Double bedroom, huge adjoining living room (with basic kitchenette and double sofa bed) and modern bathroom all for the exclusive use of our guests. Free parking.

The space

Although the suite is part of our house, it is private and self contained with its own access so you can come and go as you please.

The suite can comfortably accommodate 4 people with 1 double bedroom, large private living room (28ft x 21ft - 8.5m x 6.5m) with basic kitchenette and double sofa bed and a modern private bathroom.

Please note: there are no cooking or washing up facilities in the suite. Crockery and cutlery is provided for breakfast and/or takeaway food and we collect and do the washing up for you when requested!

All rooms have double height ceilings with exposed beams, great views across Kendal's rooftops to the hills beyond and plenty of character.

The living room has 2 large lounging sofas (one of which opens to a comfortable double bed) a 48" Smart HD TV and DVD player and kitchenette with fridge, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine and Aeroccino milk frother, toaster, crockery and cutlery. The bedroom has a double bed, flat screen TV and digital radio. The bathroom has a large free-standing bath with hand held shower, twin sinks, underfloor heating and glass towel warmer.

Towels, bed linen, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, universal travel adaptor and hot water bottles are provided. Wi-fi.

You'll find a large selection of DVDs under the coffee table and an array of local interest books, leaflets and maps which you are welcome to use during your stay.

Help-yourself-breakfast is provided for each day of your stay at no extra cost (homemade bread, butter and preserves, fresh fruit, cereal, milk, local yoghurts, fruit juices, black and herbal teas and a selection of Nespresso coffees). There are ice cubes in the freezer compartment of the fridge.

Please take a look at our guidebook for details of local restaurants and eateries we recommend.

We own a miniature Dachshund (very small). Her name is Miss Saveloy Sausage or Savvy for short. She is very quiet, friendly and adores children but is never allowed in the suite (she can't get up the stairs - they are too big)!

Interaction with guests

I run my graphic design business, Dada Design, from home so I'm around if you need anything. When my work load allows, I love to spend time with guests and get to know them better, but I'm also sensitive if guests prefer their privacy. We've found texting is the perfect way to communicate with guests during their stay so a verified mobile number is very useful.

Other things to note

We are close to the border with Scotland - Edinburgh and Glasgow are approx 2 hours away by train or car.

Absolutely gorgeous home for the weekend. Really quirky living room and kitchen area which we enjoyed relaxing in. Breakfast provided included cereal, homemade bread, jams and juice. Lots of games, dvds, books, speakers etc. Beautiful bathroom and had a great night sleep- very quiet. Nice quaint street. Perfect stay thanks so much for having us.

We really enjoyed our stay at Caryn's flat. It is beautifully and quirkily decorated, great view of the town, comfy bed & pillows, stylish bathroom, awesome high ceilings, homemade bread and other provisions left for us; very much appreciated. Everything possible was provided for a comfortable stay. We ended up staying at the flat most of the time we enjoyed it so much and didn't see so much of Kendal! We were met by Merv who checked us in and was very kind and helped us figure out the parking. Totally recommend Caryn's place and what we did see of Kendal we really liked.

I was as happy as a pig in mud and certainly more than enough room to swing a cat! Perfect. Thoroughly recommend.

The Colour House is a very nice, a true Bed and Breakfast. The living area is very spacious and artfully decorated. The bath is beautiful and very soothing. Plenty of light and very airy make it very comfortable. The location is prime in the center of town within easy walking distances to shops and restaurants. Caryn was very responsive to our emails and requests and provided the needed directions to the house. We would definitely stay again.

I've been a freelance graphic designer for the past 30 years and began my career in the music industry freelancing for Virgin, EMI and Rough Trade Records, designing record sleeves for bands including The Smiths and Everything but the Girl.

Originally from London, I've been living in the Lake District for 20 years now and run my business, Dada Design, from home in Kendal working for a number of clients large and small in and around Cumbria. I live with my husband, Merv, who is a gardener.

We are very flattered by the wonderful reviews we've been getting from our airbnb guests and really enjoy opening our house to people from around the world.
