I miss Maui and the wonderful experience at John's. I fell in love with this property on airbnb and the actual experience even exceeded my expectations. You will be able to see its blue roof peaking through the lush greens from a distance. Once you step in, it takes you to a different world. There is an interesting story behind each piece of furniture. John will tell you all about it. The flat is very spacious with plenty of couches and beds and a fully equipped kitchen. I made expresso every morning and BBQ a few times too. We had most of our meals on the balcony. It would be a shame not to enjoy the amazing view. Miles of green forest with mountain and ocean in the distance. At night time, we left all the sliding doors open to get a cool breeze. John is a very pleasant person and helped us tremendously. He gave us fresh fruits, vegetables, coffee, rice and homemade snacks. He also volunteered to pickup food from the asian grocery store for us. The day before Haleakala, he gave us a big bag of sweaters and blankets which was a life saver. John also let us borrow all of his beach gear. There is a very cute cat Ping. She hangs out in the deck and inside the house and she would greet you every morning. Tips for fighting the mosquitos: John has a spray, mosquito nets and lavender incense which are all helpful. We also bought some coils from local store in Paia; they are very cheap and kept the mosquitos away. Staying at John's made our trip very memorable and it's much cheaper than hotels. I would love to come back again.
John's home was absolutely incredible, and he was such a gracious host! We ended up arriving much later than we had anticipated, and John was very kind in helping us find the place and getting us settled. He helped us with our bags and greeted us with fresh bananas, avocados, and banana bread, but wasn't at all intrusive. His hospitality continued throughout our stay and we can't wait to go back.
His home is absolutely breathtaking! The wood work is gorgeous (as you can tell from the pictures). It is spotless, and a great place to stay. The views are amazing, and you can open the the windows all around the apartment to really feel like you are sleeping among the trees. The home is fully-equipped with everything you'd need for the kitchen, plenty of towels for days at the beach, and guidebooks.
We loved the location. It was very serene without being too fair from the nearby hipster spot, Paiea. If you're going to drive the road to Hana or do any of the number of things there is to do on the East side of Maui it is a perfect spot.
I can't rave enough about this place. My husband and I cannot wait to return!
We chose John's place as our "home-away-from-home" on our week-long stay in Maui. Like previous reviews, the photos don't do the place justice. We were greeted by John who was very friendly, and later Ping (the cat of the grounds) who was equally friendly. The place is like an open-air cabin, complete with nicely appointed kitchen and ample living space. The combination of the foldable "walls" on the ocean view side and the vaulted ceilings with exposed beams really gives you the "island living" feel. It's located just past the small town of Pa'ia and on a great piece of property, not close to other buildings/people, so it's very private and quiet. We enjoyed fresh fruit every day, including bananas picked on site! John provided us with snorkel gear, and a wealth of knowledge about activities, restaurants, and points of interest on the Road to Hana. The mosquitoes were very friendly, but were kept away at night with the net above the bed.
If you are looking for a truly non-touristy Hawaiian experience, this is the perfect place to call home base. It's in the middle of the island, so nothing is too far away. My wife and I absolutely loved our stay here, and will definitely look John up when we book our next Maui vacation.
We had a wonderful stay at John's house! John and his neighbors are lovely people, very friendly and helpful, they brought us fresh fruits, asian style fried rice noodle and super delicious banana bread!
The house is located at a very peaceful neighborhood, with amazing views of mountain and ocean. it is also very convenient to everywhere, you can drive to airport, grocery, restaurants, gelato shop within 30mins. It also has an easy access to the "Heavenly Road to Hana", "Twin Falls" are only 5mins away.
This house is way better than the photos present from the website. It is very charming, cozy, and fully equipped with everything. I am definitely coming back because I owe you some good photos of this house!
John的房子位于一个非常安静的区域，面朝大海和高山。开车去机场，超市，餐厅, 和冰激凌店都在30分钟以内。而且从这里出发去Hana非常方便，Twin Falls瀑布也只需5分钟车程。
This property and house really does make you feel transported to a tropical paradise - ocean views, wraparound deck, banana trees, fresh avocados and bananas waiting for you, and sliding doors practically all around - no need to close them, even in the rain! John was so nice and welcoming, gave us some great advice and even grilled us a steak! It was very very rainy when we were there, but you are staying in a rainforest (at least during the rainy season). The craftsmanship is amazing, the hosts are awesome, the town is quiet - what more do you want?
We had a wonderful week at John' place. Gorgious view, a lot of space with romantic interior and fresh fruits from Johns garden every day. John is a very caring host.
The Hawaiian moscitos liked us in the beginning, but John's advices worked to keep them away from us.
This is one of the most unique places both my husband and I have ever stayed in....The tri folding doors that slide along the track were so fantastic. We stayed for 4 nights shortly after we were married. It is so open and unbelievable yet extremely private!
5 minute drive from big surf breaks (we watched!).
Once we got used to our pets (lots of geckos) we loved them! The only thing we didn't like was having to leave after 4 nights...we wish we could have stayed longer! There is lots to do on the north coast but I would strongly suggest staying in and relaxing just one day....we really wished we had time to do that!
Mark my words, we will be back for sure!!!!! Can't wait!
The pictures don't so this place any justice. It was such a nice and romantic getaway, just right for my new fiancé and I to celebrate 11 years and just getting engaged two days prior to arriving to this spectacular abode from Oahu.
John is amazing. Very attentive to our needs. The fridge was not fully stocked like it says in the reviews, but fresh bananas and avocados were. John told us everything we needed to know about the place and he was stocked with everything we could need besides the groceries. There were enough towels, pots, pans, cups, plates, coffee, coffee maker, hot water, nice bathroom, new soap, new sponges. Ahhh-mazing!
John was also very sweet. When we told him that we were taking the Road to Hana, he called us around 9pm to make sure that we got back safely. He was caring and I really appreciated that.
HIGHLY RECCOMEND staying here to anyone. I'm definitely phoning in John when we come back to Maui.
We booked Thu's and John's place for ten days over the new year and could not have been more plaesed with the experience. We discovered an amazing, very clean and comfortable place. The kitchen was extremely well equipped including a gas grill on the deck. It was great to sit out there and enjoy the ocean view or the stars at night. The place is located in a quiet neighborhood, and banana's grow right outside the door. The daily offers of fresh bananas and avocados right from the tree were an amazing treat. John was also there to meet us on our arrival to show us around and was anytime available for questions throughout our entire stay!
It was a great choice and we will not hesitate to contact them again for our next trip to Maui.
Thanks Thu, John and Ping for the wonderful experience!
Our family had a fantastic stay in this beautiful home. It is a peaceful location with magnificent views, and the house is very well appointed with everything you will need, including a barbecue and good coffee machine! The fittings are truly unique and iconic, in the style of an old sailing ship, with portholes and timber masts, and brass cleats. Our host was welcoming and made our stay so pleasant. He helped us out with our plans with great advice in what to do & see and assisted us in booking some activities. We highly recommend this accommodation to anyone wishing for a truly peaceful and authentic experience.
