We loved our Maui vacation at Johns place in the Pole House! Well situated at the beginning of the road to Hana, close to Paia, Haiku Town, Makana, and easy access to beaches, hikes, and more. John was great host, around to help, gave good recommendations, and we'd stay again. Very peaceful and easy living. Opening up the floor to ceiling sliding door/panels was wonderful in the warm/hot afternoons offering up perfect conditions into the eve. Because you're in Hawaii and up off the coast, you'll get a little of natures bugs and insects, but it's all a part of the experience., enjoy! Thanks John!

Great location with gorgeous views. Interesting architectural space. John is sweet and enthusiastic about hosting. This space is a large rustic hand-built studio. There are 2 beds side by side in the back corner area. Likely best for a couple or small family. We pulled a patio couch inside to use as a makeshift third bed. The studio is the entire top floor in a shared space with plenty of folks and sound traveling up from below. Certainly not a serene private sort of space, but is a wonderful opportunity to feel part of the community and be in a great location. Kitchen is basic with a beautiful slab wood 2-burner stove. Lots of supplies available for having fun at the beach including boogie boards, SUP boards, snorkel gear, and life vests. The 7 year-old in our party called the place "epic". Adults found it interesting, rustic, and most loved the views.

The Maui Adventure Villa is absolutely amazing. The house is an architectural wonder, with features from John's travels around the world, and hanging out there put us all in a relaxed, Hawaiian state of mind. Views of vegetation from every spot in the house and distant view of the sea from the main deck. The beds are comfortable, as are the indoor and outdoor sofas. The location is ideal for getting a head start on the Hana Highway, and is convenient to Paia, Ho'okipa Beach Park, Baldwin Beach, upcountry, Haleakala, and the entire north shore of Maui. John is an incredible host. He took our whole family on a full-day hiking adventure and made sure we were all fully prepared, and was great with our kids (8 and 5). He also invited us to tag along on other excursions later in the week with he and his friends--just a super nice guy. With his knowledge of Maui and all it has to offer, he is like a live guidebook. We also made great use of his stash of boogie boards and snorkel gear, AND he loaded us a cooler when we checked out, to take to our next destination in Maui. We will definitely stay here again.

John is the perfect host. He makes you feel so welcome and at home. John's place is the only place that we have returned to...and we have stayed at over 20 vacation rentals! He also has tips on local hikes and places to eat. The pictures do not do this place justice. We loved how his place opens up. The only time we closed the doors was when there were high winds and rain. I would definitely recommend John's place for anyone that wants to stay off the beaten path and want a closer feel to nature.

The pole-house was extremely unique and was an awesome experience! It's very secluded, so it can be tough to find from the road, but John gives helpful directions. The actual room is incredibly airy and comfortable. There's multiple couches and beds. The mosquito nets aren't really necessary because bugs weren't a problem. One cool feature is that one full wall and 2 half walls are filled with folding panes of glass that can be opened as wide as you like, so you can have an entire side of the house open to enjoy the tropical air. John made sure that all of our needs were met and made us feel comfortable and welcome. He was available to help throughout the trip, but we didn't need much other than the wi-fi password, because we were out exploring the island during most of our stay. We definitely recommend John's pole-house!
