Definitiv empfehlenswert!

This beautiful house has thrilled us! By folding the doors one has the feeling of being outdoors, at the same time the interior is so luxurious that we felt like at home. If we come back to Maui, then definitely to this great spot. Definitely recommended!

  • John and Thu's Haiku tree house was an all around A+ experience. The house is gorgeous, airy, comfortable, relaxing, everything you would want from a vacation rental for 2 on Maui. The kitchen is beautiful, and very well equipped (even for a real cook). This place was a total home away from home for the first four days of our honeymoon. There is also a cute cottage unit on their property available to rent, which isn't as utterly spectacular as the tree house bungalo, but still a lovely and affordable option. The location of their property is a convenient scenic drive to the artsy town of Paia, Haiku, and Makawao, which are all great places to hang out, especially if you're looking for a more local's scene with authentic farm to table dining options. Mana Foods is an amazing and affordable organic grocery store in Paia that you will love buying your groceries from. Our host, John was a delight to get to know. He is a wealth of knowledge about the island and made us feel welcome by treating us to his home grown apple bananas and plenty of hospitality. He also makes dried apple bananas which are not to be missed! We went home with a pound of them, and will probably be getting more. We stayed at 3 different vacation rentals (all very nice in their own way) over the course of the 2 weeks we were on Maui, and this place was by far our favorite. Good thing, because it was also the cheapest! We will definitely make this our only rental next time we visit (aside from spending a couple nights in Hana), now that we know what a great location and home it is. Thank you so much John!

  • W-O-W. If you want to get off the beaten path in Maui and really enjoy your stay in a relaxed way, John's place is the the way to go. My husband and I just spent a week there, and we could have stayed longer. We called it John's tree house because it truly does feel like you're staying in an open air tree house. If you enjoy open air accommodation, this place really is unique. Every inch of the house seems to have a story. John's an incredible builder and carpenter, and the whole house has lovely unique touches. The sliding glass doors on three sides of the house are beautiful, and the kitchen is divine. We hadn't planned on cooking much, but the kitchen was so nice, we found ourselves cooking quite a bit.

Ping the house cat is lovely. John is wonderfully thoughtful and checked in to see what was needed to enjoy our stay. He brought fresh bananas and dried lots for us as well (delicious). John's got plenty of snorkel and beach gear for you to grab. You get to hear the birds greeting the sun in the morning, and the geckos sing their songs as well.

The location is easy and only 30 minutes from the airport, just 10-15 minutes from the cool towns of Paia and Makewao, and it's super easy for a quick launch up to Haleakala or to hit the Road to Hana in the morning. If you plan to spend a lot of time on the West Coast... Honoloa Bay, Lahania, Kihea, etc...it's a bit farther, but we made the drive a few times. For us, it was a great location and a break from the resort scene for sure.

Watching the sunset from that deck was something magical that I won't soon forget. If this place sounds like you, grab it! It's a gem.

  • We had a fantastic time staying at John's house! It was beautiful and very clean. When we arrived late at night, John brought us up organic eggs, butter, bread, and coffee beans. Our first morning there we had a wonderful breakfast - and had fun grinding coffee beans and using the large french press in the kitchen.

The location of the house could not have been better! It was quite and felt secluded, while still being very close to stores and restaurants. During our stay we got groceries and food in Paia and Haiku - both were a very short drive from the house. It was also ideal for getting on the highway and heading to beaches, Hana, etc.

John also supplied us with everything we could ask for - beach towels, snorkel gear, bug repellent, even a cooler.

If you are saying in Maui and want to get away from overpriced touristy locations and resorts, I highly recommend saying here!!!! Beautiful house, amazing views, and a friendly host AND playful cat companion (Ping!)

  • This place was perfect for our 4 day stay in Maui! It was a great alternative to staying in a hotel. The location is perfect- just 25 min from the airport. You really feel embedded in nature. The lush greenery along the trails were perfect for our daily morning runs here. We saw so many colorful birds, geckos, chickens, and horses just around the house.

John was an amazing host. He was very communicative- called before we landed in Maui to tell us where to park. John also knows so much about Maui- gave us advice about where to stop on our road to Hana trip and gave us citronella oil to prevent mosquito bites. Lastly, Ping is the resident cat at this place. She is very friendly and just adorable.

I wish I could have stayed longer! I would definitely recommend this place. John is very reliable and full on information- staying here really enhanced our stay in Maui.

  • This place was fantastic. The cottage itself is a work of art. The view terrific. The breezes soothing. And the proximity to all we wanted to see and do was perfect. The host was friendly and helpful, but even more, he was kind. And he was very responsive to our particular questions and needs.

  • How much better can a vacation get? This exquisitly built unique wooden home brought the best Hawaii has to offer to us throughout our stay. Fully Aloha John is an amazing host, and available for any need. The roundabout lanai with open views of the island started each day with nature at its finest and brought us to rest after each day of hiking with sunsets and stars. The most yummy bananas that are growing outside the door is a secret all in its own. If you are looking for a Hawaian paradise stay, this is definitely the place to be.

  • My wife and I stayed at John's place for about 10 days and LOVED IT! It is very unique with a wonderful view of mountains and ocean. The wallsystem of the home is great as it permitted us to open everything up completely, weather conditions permitting. The home is very clean and cared for and had everything we needed while on Maui.

We decided to get open water scuba certified with Scuba Mike who we recommend to anyone. We were introduced to a new wonderful ocean world and are glad we committed to completing that. We cannot wait to return and stay with John to go to all the beaches and do some more diving!!! Thanks again, John. You are the best.
