About this listing
Only 30 minutes from Stockholm city center and 60 meter to the sea, this newly renovated bungalow on a small car free island is the perfect getaway in the archipelago. Take a dip sunny days or read in front of the fireplace on cloudy days!
A bungalow with 30 m2 indoor, an outside area under roof, and a garden with a table for summer dinners. The house is recently refurbished in a light scandinavian style.
Best for 1-2 persons. If you have a small kid it will also work.
You are welcome to relax, read, swim or fish from our jetty.
There are two old but functional kayaks with splash covers and safety-vests that you are welcome to borrow.
If we are around we are happy to meet you and take a cup or coffee if you would like and give you ideas where to go and what to do.
We are about 150 people living permanently on the island of Storholmen and we have lots of other friends that stay for part time of the year. Really a place to relax for yourself or together with a great friend.
It´s a small island with some nice walking to explore the small houses and gardens and the mystery castle. Summer months june-september it´s nice to take a swim in the water. From end april to end october the fishing around the island is good for pike, perch and pikeperch.
Most of our guest prefer to just relax for the first days and then they are of to discover.
Stockholm - the Capital of Scandinavia, is on most of our guests agenda. Activities, museums, shops or the scandinavian cuisine. Old city or more relaxed Södermalm, roof walking, the Vasamuseum or Skansen are top visited attractions for our guests.
The archipelogo. By kayak, rent a boat (motor or sailing) or take the archipelago ferris, really a world class experience. In summertime a stop in the archipelago hub Vaxholm is a popular day excursion. If you really want to get some serious fishing done we recommend Catch & Relax guided tours.
Lidingö has some great forest and is the home of the worlds largest cross-country run Lidingöloppet. Easy access with 5 minutes ferry or boat ride. There are some museums such as the MIllesgården worth a trip if your into bronze sculptures. Some people enjoy walking Lidingö just to check out old an new architecture.
Bogesund is our little wilder forrest 5 minutes to the east with boat or ferry. A nature reserve with trails, old oaks and castles. We spend a lot of time at Bogesund for chantarelles, flower watching as well as cross country running or mountain biking.
If you are looking for water activities kayaking around our Island is pretty good. The fishing is also of good quality in the waters nearby.
If you are in for any other swedish experience we are quite good on them. I do some work with tourism experiences and might have some good ideas for you.
If you get of from Arlanda Airport. Take the Flybuss (cheapest) or Arlanda Train (fastest) to Stockholm Centralstation. From Skavsta Airpoirt take the flybys to Centralstation and if you land at Bromma Airport get a flybuss or take a cab to central station. If you arrive by train you probably also will get of at the Central station.
From the Centralstation you take the red subway to Ropsten or a cab.
From Ropsten just under the bridge going to Lidingö you get on the ferry to Storholmen. It takes about 25 minutes and departs 6 times a day from the 16th of April to the 6th of january. Best is to get of at Storholmen Norra.
Note. If you take a cab use Taxi Stockholm (phone number hidden), safest and best price. Many other might heavily overcharge you.
If you arrive later than 17:30 check with us and we´ll help you find a good travel plan to the island
If you come by boat or kajak we have a jetty. (about 4 m depth)
If you come by car, you can park at Lidingö (Mor Annas Brygga) We´ll provide you with our parking permit.
Summertime (Ice free season, mid april-january)
To get to and from the island, easiest is to take the ferry from Ropsten or Mor Annas Brygga. Other options are to go with us or our neighbors to Mor Annas Brygga at Lidingö or book a boat taxi with Lotta´s Boat.
The Storholmen ferry goes between Storholmen - Lidingö - Ropsten about 6 times a day. Make sure to check the latest timetable because they do change 4 times a year. This is the easiest way to get around.
Wintertime (Ice season, january- mid april)
A cap of ice is normally surrounding the island so that we can go anywhere, as long as you have the right tools, friends and knowledge. It is ice walking times. Get or borrow icesticks, try a swedish kick or get a lift with us on the snowmobile. Possible sometimes also to book a transport by Lotta and Milan with their hovercraft.
The connections to Vaxholm is possible but it´s about 1 1/2 h by public transport or 30 min by private boat or boat taxi. Or a nice 10 km walk or cycle ride through the forests and open fields of Bogesund the Naturereserve.
Our restaurant Storholmen Sjökrog offers local basic and good cuisine and drinks. Offseason open fridays - sundays, high season all weak. That´s where you´ll meat the locals and get to know the secrets of the island.
Note that we live on an island and you can´t get here by car. The car can be either parked at Ropsten or at the Mor Annas Brygga or somewhere else. if you park at Mor Annas Brygga we can provide you with a parkingcard.
We don´t have a store on the island. If you like to stock up before arriving we recomend COOP at central station in Stockholm. If you arrive by car or prefer to take a cab there are some nice shops at Lidingö Centrum.
Not much rules, but we do appreciate that smoking is done outside.
Christian and his family are great hosts, very helpful and all time friendly. The red bungalow is so sweet and the best place to relax, fish, swim and read a book. The little house is very clean and there is everything we needed. We stayed 4 days and enjoyed it a lot. Thank you for these amazing days :-) !!!
We stayed at Christians seaview bungalow for 6 nights. Perfect location to relax, read, swim and fish. A very quiet island but perfect for a few days to really relax. Christian and his family were great hosts, friendly and very helpful. The bungalow is well kitted out and a lovely place to sit and look over the water.
We stayed in the Åberg's perfect cabin for a week, and it was a wonderful escape. They're a sweet and very active family, and Christian made sure we were comfortable, providing a cot and highchair for our 8-month old.
The cabin was just perfect for our little family, we really enjoyed meals at the dining table looking out over the gorgeous view and evenings playing cards and watching the fire after the sun set. It was a pretty special week!
We think it would be amazing to stay during the summer as there would be lots to do on the island: swimming, relaxing on the porch etc. The ferry to Stockholm costs 60SEK pp each way so you don't want to head in every day! To find the ferry port from Ropsten, walk through the car park and take the steps down to the river under the bridge. It's not well-signposted!
We loved our stay in Storholmen and would certainly return if we got the chance in future.
Perfect little Bungalow. Very, very clean and cozy. Christian was a very friendly host and had already taken care of everything. We enjoyed our time and the cute little swing was a perfect bonus. It was a most relaxing holiday for us. Thanks!
I had a lovely time in the bungalow! Christian and his family are very welcoming; wonderful hosts! All very cozy, clean, comfortable... I want to go back!
A friend and I just wanted a weekend to shut off from the world and what a perfect place to do so! Christian and his family are so welcoming and are the perfect hosts giving us access to the kayaks and they saved the day when we forgot to buy wine in Stockholm, there was some already waiting in the fridge!!
We stayed on the Island our whole trip but with the perfect weather we were never bored. Walking, kayaking, eating and playing cards!
I made a short film on our trip, if you want to see the place first hand
