Enjoy my insider’s guide to old Florida. I am an artist and teacher with a historic home. It has a pool surrounded by a tropical garden in a neighborhood minutes from the water and downtown.
You will be staying in the master bedroom with a king size Sealy Posturepedic bed and private half bath. There is another full bathroom right outside your door and a wonderful outdoor private shower with hot and cold water. If you have never taken a shower outside you are in for a treat, if you want to try it.
This home is decorated with antiques and art that celebrate old Florida. It is like stepping back in time with modern amenities. The house has tall ceilings, oak floors, quartz counter tops and a gas range. You will have open access to the whole house as well as the fully equipped kitchen. Browse my library for art or photography books or perhaps a Marjorie Kennan Rawlings cookbook. There is also wifi, a washer and dryer, Weber gas grill and beach chairs and umbrella for your use. I have one older cat that usually stays out of sight. Smoking is allowed outside only. The house was built in 1929 so it's not perfect but it is charming.
The backyard has a classic coquina surround pool set in the middle of a private tropical garden with seating for coffee in the mornings or afternoon or moonlight dips. The pool is not heated but open 24/7. There is always something blooming. It’s a real slice of paradise!
The neighborhood is quiet with tree lined streets. We are located minutes from the interstate and the beautiful downtown waterfront and all the action.
We can also be flexible about check in.
Marlys was a lovely host and I enjoyed her company! She was very helpful in recommending restaurants and places to visit. I went to the Dali Museum and saw not only Dali's work but an exhibit of Andy Warhol as well! Marlys took great care to be available when I had questions or just to talk one evening when I wanted to stay in, but was also never intrusive in my space! She has a lovely, clean home in a nice quiet neighborhood. She is very convenient (just a few minutes) to everything in St. Pete. It was nice to have a private bathroom, but I am sad that the weather was a little chilly as I wanted to try her outdoor shower! Marlys placed fresh flowers from her lemon tree in my room and the aroma was AMAZING! I really enjoyed my 5 nights in St. Pete and met a wonderful woman in the process! I highly recommend staying with Marlys because the location is great and the price is very reasonable!
We had a great stay with Marlys in St. Pete. The room is lovely, extremely clean with a half bath. The outdoor shower was incredible too! Marlys and Ron were exceptionally kind and helpful, making our site seeing in St.Pete really easy. The location is great and I can't recommend it highly enough. We even bought a copy of one of Marlys's beautiful pictures - the perfect memento for a lovely stay.
This was the perfect place as home base to explore wonderful St. Pete! Marlys' home and hospitality were so welcoming and warm, in a beautiful neighborhood on brick-lined streets. Her house is lovingly and tastefully restored, filled with art. The pool and patio inviting for morning coffee (or a quiet tropical retreat anytime), and outside shower in the sun superb! We will be back!
This was my first Airbnb experience and it was a wonderful one! Marlys made me feel right at home. Her home was just lovely. I loved her outdoor shower and sitting out by the pool. Both were so relaxing. She was so accommodating in even letting me check in early--thank you for the extra effort Marlys as I was so tired from my flight :- ). She and Ron were awesome in helping me with directions within St. Petersburg and St. Pete's Beach. Her place definitely exudes Old Florida Charm and true Southern hospitality. I highly recommend her place.
Marlys was warm and friendly. Her home was the perfect location for us. We were about five miles from the museum/dining/waterfront. It was close enough to be in town for the day and in a few minutes be home to freshen up before dinner. At Marlys you are in a residential quiet neighborhood and we had no noise when sleeping. We had our own half bath but to shower we used Marla and Ron's bathroom and this made us feel a bit awkward. On our last day Marlys picked oranges from her tree and squeezed us fresh juice. How wonderful!

You were great guest and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. In the interest of future guest, I would like to point out that downtown is just over a mile from our house and the waterfront is a 10 min walk. We are 2.2 miles from the Dali Museum. Also, we prefer to use our outdoor shower but John and Karen were here during a very cold snap.
Marlys is a very attentive hostess and has created a beautiful home which is a perfect union of modern and classic décor. The yard and the outdoor shower are lovely and a joy to experience. We felt comfortable using her amazing kitchen.
Staying with Marlys was an absolute delight! We came from Virginia to look for a rental in St. Petersburg, and Marlys was a well of information. She even offered to give us a tour of the area!
We felt free to come and go, and started calling the place home toward the end of our stay. We'd be walking downtown and my husband would say, "I'm getting tired." I actually said, "Okay, let's go home." This is strange as I was referring to our place at Marlys's!
In any case, you can't go wrong staying with her. The place was immaculate with tons of personality. Marlys is happy to help you adjust to the area any way she can. All in all, much more relaxing than a typical hotel stay

For our St Pete visit, it was the best possible arrangement to stay at Marlys. The house is lively and tranquil, hosts are welcoming and friendly, the location is superb. Everything worked out perfectly for us, and we recommend Marlys wholeheartedly!
Me olime väga rahul majutusega ja soovitame kasutada teistelgi. Tingimused olid väga head. Köögi kasutamise võimalus. Kaunis basseiniga aed hommikukohvi nautimiseks või lihtsalt puhkamiseks. Pererahvas on meeldiv ja sõbralik.
Nous avons passé d'excellents moments en compagnie de Marlys, la maison et la chambre sont très joliement décorées. Quartier calme et proximité du centre ville .
We had a great time staying with Marlys. Her home was beautiful and charming and really close to downtown St. Pete. We were only there for one night but Marlys treated us like family, we stayed and chatted with her for quite some time (and petted Moon Pie the cat) before going off to a delicious dinner at Birch & Vine. The next morning, before our journey off, she shared a fruit salad with us and took the time to give us recommendations for where to stop along our drive to Panama City Beach, very much appreciated. Though it was too cold to swim, we enjoyed sitting around the lovely pool in the morning. All in all we had a great time, would definitely stay here again!
