Sweet 2br Columbia Heights Rowhouse

House - Entire home/apt · 11th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20010, United States

We absolutely love living in our neighborhood, and we hope you will too. This is a comfortable two bedroom apartment in a century-old DC row house. Enjoy friendly and hip Columbia Heights, with easy access to all the sights and museums downtown.

The Space

Our lovely brick row house is split into two apartments. Come stay in the airy 2 bedroom apartment on our top floor. We live downstairs. A separate door goes from the entrance up to your space.

We're just above a great nightlife strip - 11th Street NW, with several restaurants and fun bars like The Kangaroo Boxing Club, The Coupe, and The Wonderland Ballroom right up the street. It's a short stroll to two Green Line Metro stations, grocery stores, and shops. Beautiful Rock Creek Park, U Street, Adams Morgan, and Mount Pleasant are all easily walkable, and there's a nearby bikeshare rack to boot.

The apartment offers old-school DC charm and painted wood floors. There are two real bedrooms with full beds. Soft pillows, fluffy towels (... an alarm clock). The bath has a claw-foot tub/shower.

You can enjoy the big bright living room, with an home theater projector that makes for a huge image. Think movie night. It's hooked up to cable TV and a stereo system. There's plenty of space to lay out a yoga mat, or feel free to strum a guitar or mess about on the 60's drum kit. For larger groups, the sofa pulls out into a queen-sized bed, and there's a nice air mattresses. There is a surcharge for extra adults beyond 4 guests - no charge for kids 14 and under.

We've decorated with carpets from travels to Afghanistan, Asia and elsewhere, art, and modern accents - plus good books to read during downtime.

If you like to cook, or want to have friends for dinner, there's a dining room and a galley kitchen with gas stove, microwave, refrigerator. Make smoothies, a souffle, or just toast and coffee. Out back, a rear deck overlooks our small urban homestead. Fresh herbs are right at hand. Honeybees buzz in a couple of top-bar hives. Our friendly cat, Batgirl, prowls the yard and loves people, but won't get in your space uninvited.

Getting around

Close to two Metro stops on the Green line. Also, busses run regularly just up the street, and there's a bike share rack two blocks away.

  • Lexie and Graham are really pros at hosting and so they anticipate guests' needs perfectly.
This was a great experience, we loved the neighborhood and it was really convenient to get around town from there. We had plenty of privacy and as this was a work trip we were able to work all day, come home late and get a good night's sleep.

We loved the small sunny dining room and kitchen area as well as the front room where the video projector and drum set are. Five stars!

  • Lexie and Graham's place is really comfortable and airy. They have a great living room, kitchen and dining room with two cozy bedrooms which gives you all the privacy you may need with a homely warmth to it. They are very approachable and helpful. My experience was great at their house- not only did they respond to all my questions immediately but were always ready to help and adjust cheerfully. The place is in a safe area with quite a few nice places to eat nearby (not that I got to go to any). It's not too far of a walk from the metro station either. I would definitely recommend staying there.

  • My colleague and I needed a place to rest while working a media job in DC and this place was PERFECT! It was clean, stylish, comfortable and had plenty of room to spread out and stretch after a long day of working. Bonus was the projector in the living room to watch TV and the proximity to great restaurants and bars within walking distance. The only thing we wished was that we would have been able to stay longer! Lexi was very accommodating and kind when we arrived but sadly we didn't have time to chat too much. I personally will rent this space again if I ever find myself needing a get away or a place to crash in DC.

  • It was simply great! The apartment is clear, cozy and well equipped. We only stayed three days, but it felt like home away from home from the first minute.

  • We were in a bind as the closing date on our new home was delayed and we needed to quickly find a place to rent for me, my partner, and our dog and cat for a few days.

We found Lexie and Graham's place and were able to quickly head over before they headed out of town for the weekend. We didn't see much of them as they were gone most of the weekend, but they couldn't have been friendlier when we checked in.

Their place is not fancy, but certainly comfortable and spacious. Definitely enjoyed the theater projector for watching movies.

Location is great - a quiet one-way street with limited traffic and a very quick walk to great restaurants up 11th St or just a few more blocks to everything in Columbia Heights on 14th.

Quick walk to Petworth Metro as well - very convenient!

    Definitely would recommend to others.

  • Lexie and Graham are very kind hosts. They clearly care about their visitors and do their best to make it comfortable (e.g. parking pass, metro passes, checking in often, etc. etc.). The place is in a convenient location (I assume anyone visiting DC would seek out Columbia Heights for a reason) and made our quick 2 night weekend gateway with our young child very easy. Street parking is easy, everything is walkable or accessible via metro, plenty of natural light, ample space and the kitchen has everything one might need. The apartment is generally clean, although as noted by at least one other reviewer it really needs a serious vacuum throughout - there were dust balls, random bits of debris, hair, carpet fuzz, etc. on the floors which gave all 3 of us sneezing fits here and there. Overall, I would recommend their apartment to others and we would consider staying with them again in the future.

  • Lexie and Graham have a lovely place in a very cool neighbourhood, and they really go out of their way to keep their guests comfortable.

  • We stayed there with two couples and it was big enough. It is a big apartment with a nice vibe. We liked the location: we could easily park our car (they had a parking card for us of their neighborhood) and the metro in to the city is very close by. Only thing that was not so nice was that there was a lot of dust on the floor in the apartment. But I think this normally is not the case: Lexie and Graham had to leave town unexpectedly, so maybe that had something to do with it. For the rest we had a great time and we enjoyed the drums!

  • Lexie and Graham were very nice and attentive. My family stayed here when they were in town for my wedding. When Lexie and Graham had to leave suddenly for a family emergency, they took the time to make sure my family was OK, set up a neighbor to address any issues, bring up a ton of toys for my little niece, etc. They are outstanding hosts. And the house is awesome. Bright, spacious, clean and filled with entertainment options. My family loved the neighborhood, as it is close to Metro and packed with restaurants and shops. I can recommend this spot without a doubt!

  • We had a great time at Lexi and Graham's place. It was very cozy and well-equipped for our two families (4 adults and 3 small children) for a 5 night stay. The location was super convenient and Lexi and Graham, although we didn't get to see them much in person, were always available to us via messaging when we had questions. We would definitely go back and stay here again to explore the neighbourhood more as we didn't have much spare time away from wedding activities this trip.

About
We are two public radio producers raising veggies, bees, and a little girl in Washington, DC. Alexis is super crafty and kick ass - originally from Florida. Graham is handy and calm under pressure - hails from New Hampshire. The district is just about in the middle, so seems a good place to make a home. If you stay with us, we'll look to show you the very best of DC's obvious and hidden pleasures. We do a lot of cooking, enjoy the outdoors, obsess about music and books. Love throwing big parties. Our little daughter Sol keeps us busy, and older daughter Cali amazes. We want to do more travelling, and hope to meet good folk as we explore, and as we host folks here.
