About this listing
Columbia Heights is a great part of DC - and we hope you will enjoy calling it home for a spell. Ours is a comfortable two bedroom apartment in an old brick row house. Enjoy our friendly and hip neighborhood, with easy access to downtown.
We absolutely love living here, and we hope you will too. This is a comfortable well-loved two bedroom apartment in a century-old brick row house. Enjoy friendly and hip Columbia Heights, with easy access to all the sights and museums downtown.
Our home is split into two apartments. Come stay in the airy 2 bedroom apartment on our top floor. We have another 2BR airbnb downstairs, and we live right around the corner. A separate door goes from the main entrance up to your space.
We're just above a great nightlife strip - 11th Street NW, with several restaurants and fun bars like The Kangaroo Boxing Club, The Coupe, Room 11, and The Wonderland Ballroom right up the street. It's a short walk to two Green Line Metro stations, grocery stores, and shops. Beautiful Rock Creek Park, U Street, Adams Morgan, and Mount Pleasant are all easily walkable, and there's a nearby bikeshare rack to boot.
The house was built in 1905. It is old-school charming, not necessarily square and plumb. Though it has not been recently renovated, we offer clean, spacious, old-school DC living with colorfully painted floors. There are two bedrooms with full-size beds. Soft pillows, fluffy towels and an alarm clock (we hope you won't need that). The bathroom is small and outdated but clean and functional, and has a claw-foot tub/shower.
You can enjoy the big bright living room, with a home theater projector that makes for a huge image - think movie night. It's hooked up to premium cable TV and AppleTV, and a stereo system. There's space to lay out a yoga mat, or feel free to strum a guitar or mess about on the 1960's drum kit.
For larger groups, the sofa pulls out into a very comfortable queen-sized bed, and for extra-extra room, there's a nice air mattress. There is a surcharge for any adults beyond 4 guests - but no charge for kids 14 and under.
If you like to cook, or want to have friends for dinner, there's a dining room and a galley kitchen with gas stove, microwave, refrigerator. Make smoothies, a souffle, or just toast and coffee. Out back, a rear deck overlooks our small urban homestead.
Interaction with Guests
We're around a lot, working in bits and pieces, but always accessible on phone. Feel free to knock or call for tips or to say hello.
Columbia Heights in the last ten years has become one of the hippest areas in DC. There are great restaurants and bars right nearby, plus good supermarkets, coffee shops, farmers markets on weekends. We are two blocks above a great strip of fun cafes and bars, but our block itself is nice and quiet. It's a safe area for walking, but of course be aware of your surroundings and be sensible.
Metros and bike shares are close by, and it's not hard to find a nearby on-street parking spot. We have a guest pass you can use to park for free, but make sure to pay attention to the street sweeping signs, so you don't get a ticket. Biking is a great way to access the city from our neighborhood too.
To make everything work, we need good, clear communication about what you need before and during your stay. We're happy to chat any time on the phone, email, or text.
Check in is after 2PM and check out by 10AM. We are flexible when possible, but if there's someone here the night before you arrive, or coming in the day you're leaving, we need time to get things cleaned up and turned around.
You'll have a key to the apartment. With a separate entrance, you're free to come and go as you wish - 24 hours a day. Please be sure to lock up.
We will have the flat clean before you arrive, with fresh sheets and towels. We ask that during your stay, you take care of general housekeeping, do your dishes, and make sure not to allow trash and recycling to accumulate too much. Please try to leave the place pretty much as you found it.
We ask you not to smoke in the apartment. There is an ashtray out on the rear deck, have at it (and yes, weed is legal for recreational use in DC).
Try to keep in mind that this is a quiet, friendly neighborhood - it's not a party house. We don't want to alienate our neighbors, so we ask you to be reasonable with noise, especially at night.
That's pretty much it - enjoy your stay in DC!
