Columbia Heights is the best spot in DC - and we hope you will enjoy calling it home for a spell. This is a comfortable two bedroom apartment in a century-old brick row house. Enjoy our friendly and hip neighborhood, with easy access to all the sights and museums downtown.
We absolutely love living here, and we hope you will too. This is a comfortable two bedroom apartment in a century-old Comfy brick row house. Enjoy friendly and hip Columbia Heights, with easy access to all the sights and museums downtown.
Our home is split into two apartments. Come stay in the airy 2 bedroom apartment on our top floor. We live downstairs. A separate door goes from the entrance up to your space.
We're just above a great nightlife strip - 11th Street NW, with several restaurants and fun bars like The Kangaroo Boxing Club, The Coupe, Room 11, and The Wonderland Ballroom right up the street. It's a short stroll to two Green Line Metro stations, grocery stores, and shops. Beautiful Rock Creek Park, U Street, Adams Morgan, and Mount Pleasant are all easily walkable, and there's a nearby bikeshare rack to boot.
The house was built in the early 1900's. It has not been fully renovated, so we offer clean, spacious, old-school DC charm with colorfully painted floors and walls. There are two full-on bedrooms with beds. Soft pillows, fluffy towels and an alarm clock (we hope you won't need that). The bathroom is small and old-school, but has a claw-foot tub/shower.
You can enjoy the big bright living room, with an home theater projector that makes for a huge image - think movie night. It's hooked up to premium cable TV and AppleTV, and a stereo system. There's plenty of space to lay out a yoga mat, or feel free to strum a guitar or mess about on the 60's drum kit.
For larger groups, the sofa pulls out into a queen-sized bed, and for extra extra room, there's a nice air mattress. There is a surcharge for extra adults beyond 4 guests - but no charge for kids 14 and under.
If you like to cook, or want to have friends for dinner, there's a dining room and a galley kitchen with gas stove, microwave, refrigerator. Make smoothies, a souffle, or just toast and coffee. Out back, a rear deck overlooks our small urban homestead. Fresh herbs are right at hand. Honeybees buzz in a couple of top-bar hives when it's warm. Our friendly cat, Batgirl, and dog, Tiger, play in the yard and love people, but won't get in your space uninvited.
Interaction with Guests
We're around a lot, working in bits and pieces but always accessible on phone. Feel free to knock or call for tips or to say hello.
We are right in a surging fun part of DC's best new area - spitting distance from a dozen great spots, and near plenty of others. You can bike or walk or metro everywhere from here.
Metros and bike shares are close by, and it's not hard to find a nearby on-street parking spot. We have a guest pass you can use to park for free, but make sure to pay attention to the street sweeping signs, so you don't get a ticket.
To make everything work, we need good, clear communication about what you need before and during your stay. We're happy to chat any time on the phone, email, or text.
Check in is after 2PM and check out by 10AM. We are flexible when possible, but if there's someone here the night before you arrive, or coming in the day you're leaving, we need time to get things cleaned up and turned around.
You'll have a key to the apartment. With a separate entrance, you're free to come and go as you wish. Please be sure to lock up.
We will have the flat clean before you arrive, with fresh sheets and towels. We ask that during your stay, you take care of general housekeeping, do your dishes, and make sure not to allow trash and recycling to accumulate too much. Please try to leave the place pretty much as you found it.
We ask you not to smoke in the apartment.
Try to keep in mind that we live downstairs with our daughter. It's a residence in a friendly neighborhood, not a party house. We don't want to alienate our neighbors, so we ask you to be reasonable with noise, especially at night.
That's pretty much it - enjoy your stay in DC!
Graham was a great host (Lexie was out of town). He gave great restaurant and bar recommendations. The home is cozy and warm, as we were visiting in the winter. Loved the projection screen for TV and movies. We had a mix up with the keys one night, but Lexie had a neighbor come by with a spare key to let us in. Our cat loved sitting in the window watching everything. Overall a great first Air BnB experience!
We loved our stay here. Graham and Lexi were more than gracious and helpful with our stay. The place is ideally situated far enough out of the hubbub of town that we didn't feel like we would be kept awake by throngs of tourists, but close enough to town that we could have easily walked or biked to the places of key interest had we been so inclined. Great location near shopping and dining. Let me reiterate that, great location for shopping and DINING! Wow! there are some great restaurants nearby, and they're all worth checking out at least once during your stay here. Lexie and Graham have a great place with plenty of touches of home, with a great sense of privacy when you want it. We loved our stay, and are definitely making plans to stay here again.
Lexie and Graham were great hosts! I barely did anything besides write and sleep while staying here, but the neighborhood was totally walkable when it came time for a meal. Super charming apartment, and just a little rough around the edges in a way I'd forgotten about since I lived out east.
Lexie and Graham are really welcoming and hospitable. The apartment is great - lots of space and well appointed. Nice, quiet neighborhood pretty close to downtown DC. Highly recommend!
Even though our hosts were pulled out of town during our visit, we felt very welcome. Everything went according to plan and when we locked ourselves out, they had arranged for a neighbor to take care of us.
Great place, Lexie and Graham are very kind, I highly recommend this place if you're visiting DC
We are two public radio producers raising veggies, bees, and a little girl in Washington, DC. Alexis is super crafty and kick ass - originally from Florida. Graham is handy and calm under pressure - hails from New Hampshire. The district is just about in the middle, so seems a good place to make a home. If you stay with us, we'll look to show you the very best of DC's obvious and hidden pleasures.
We do a lot of cooking, enjoy the outdoors, obsess about music and books. Love throwing big parties. Our little daughter Sol keeps us busy, and older daughter Cali amazes. We want to do more travelling, and hope to meet good folk as we explore, and as we host folks here.
