Great location

Enjoy 270-degree views of water and mountains from our premium location on Lake Chatuge. The well-appointed suite has a separate entrance, spacious bedroom and attached private bath. The suite includes a large den with 3 plush leather reclining sofas, 55" TV, an eating/game table, mini fridge, microwave, mini oven/toaster and breakfast fixings. Enjoy sunrises and sunsets from your own patio, relaxing swing or hammock. Use of the dock, grill, two kayaks/life vests, beach towels & water floats.

The space
If you're going to Hiawassee for the Georgia Mountain Fairground, pickle ball tournaments, hiking in North Georgia, visiting Young Harris College, or you want to get in Lake Chatuge look no further! This is a "private room" in our home, but in reality it's a room+ -- the first floor of our 2,000+-sq/ft-home. Our property covers the entire point so it feels secluded, yet oh-so-convenient as we are a half mile from the grocery store and town and only 2.4 miles from the fairgrounds.

Entry is lakeside, giving you your own entrance. We use 100% cotton sheets and launder with unscented detergents and no added chemicals from fabric softeners.

The large den area has an eating/game table, plus 2 leather recliner sofas and leather chair recliner, and a 55" HD TV (note, we don't have cable but we do have Netflix, Roku, etc.) In the winter you can enjoy your own gas fireplace.

In the buffet area are:
-microwave
-countertop convection oven/toaster
-coffee pot, french press, electric kettle
-mini refrigerator
-wine opener and cheese board
-coffee mugs, wine glasses, plates, bowls, and silverware.

It's tidied up daily so you always have clean tableware.

Outdoor is a Weber gas grill. We supply grilling utensils but you'll need to bring related supplies, such as foil, and spices other than salt and pepper.

On the large patio is a fire pit, table and chairs, a hanging swing, and zero gravity lounge chairs. The area is partially covered so you can stay out of the sun - or not!

In addition to 270-degree+ views and a nice, constant breeze, relax in the double hammock, or dock swing. The dock is verrrrrry close and we have two kayaks (one 2-seater and one single), life vests, a paddleboard and floats for your use. There's nothing like getting out on the water for an early swim or kayak or ending a day of hiking or exploring with a jump in the lake. We will even supply beach towels.

In the winter, the views of the surrounding mountains are gorgeous and snuggling under luxurious blankets, or getting exercise on long walks or hikes is the order of the day.

Georgia Mountain Fairground -- 2.4 miles
Grocery Store -- .5 miles
Fast Food -- .2 miles
Lake -- your front door :)

Either Mike or Peggy, the owners, will be upstairs and can offer tips on the local area, but our goal is to be as unobtrusive as you want.

While Airbnb will collect the 7% Georgia tax, we are required to collect an additional 5% Hiawassee tourism tax, which must be paid in cash when you arrive.

COVID-19 Impact: We've had to add a $45 cleaning fee for the cost of a new HEPA filter for each new booking and we have instituted a 3 day gap between bookings, that with the standard of cleaning, will ensure the space is appropriately sanitized.

Guest access
You will have access to the first floor, dock, float toys, life vests, paddleboard and kayaks. The suite is connected to the top level of our home via a stairwell that is open (no door) but your bedroom and bath are completely private. Mike and I use the top level so you may hear us, but you won't see us unless we are outside. The kitchen and the second floor are not available with the suite rental, nor are the owner's boat slip, jet ski or motor boat (unless we schedule a boat ride ahead of time). If you want to rent a boat or jet ski you can, but talk with us first about your plans as there are lots of options. We have an extra dock for a rented jet ski.

Other things to note
While Airbnb will collect the 7% Georgia tax, we are required to collect an additional 5% Hiawassee tourism tax, which must be paid in cash when you arrive.

We have a bedroom upstairs, "Sparkling Lakefront Retreat" that we make available very selectively. It can be booked with the downstairs suite if another bedroom is needed.

Hiawassee, Georgia, United States

Hiawassee is in the North Georgia mountains, which is in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, so hiking and waterfalls are abundant. We are very near the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, Brasstown Bald, Young Harris College and a short drive from Helen. In Hiawassee, the air is clear and clean and the stars are amazing. Plenty of restaurants are nearby and of course we are on the lake!

Mike and I have been married for 25 years and we have two kids in college. We like to get outdoors, meet new people and have fun! Mike is retired from the construction field and is a true McGuyver; Peggy is retired from the public relations field. Our hobbies include scuba, motorcycles and boating and restful activities such as reading. We look for inspiration and kindness and feel blessed beyond measure. We are constantly making updates to the space to make it more convenient and comfortable for guests, family and friends. For years we called our home(s) the "Gardner hotel" and then got the lake house and in 2016 and decided to make it official. So we treat it seriously but don't take ourselves seriously.

While we are onsite hosts, we will interact only as needed. We respect your privacy but welcome meeting new people too. As noted, your suite is on the first floor of our home, and is listed as a private room, not the whole house. The living area is connected to the top floor by an open stairwell, meaning you could hear us moving about, but you won't see us unless we are outside.
