The space

Beautiful, modern home, high on a hill with gorgeous views of mountains and ocean. Very private place to immerse yourself in nature. Enjoy a glass of wine in the infinity pool, which you can walk right into from the living area or master suite, or cook gourmet meals while you view the mountains, birds, and monkeys. The yoga deck on top is a truly amazing place to practice yoga, get creative and recharge your creative juices, or get a massage from a very gifted therapist. There are other sun decks for laying in the sun or shade to relax.
The location offers a real experience of serenity, being in nature while living in elegance and being close enough to town and the beach to access all of the wonderful conveniences Playa Samara has to offer.
The house is full of paintings and glass art installations done by the owner for your pleasure and or purchase. It is like living in a gallery in the middle of the forest. If you love elegance, art, yoga, bliss and/or serenity, this is the place for you!
The beaches which are close by are Samara and Carrillo Beach which were both named as the most beautiful beaches in Central America. Both are amazing! You will want a car while here preferably a four wheel drive. There is public transport if you do not want a car but we are about a 10 minute drive from town. There are many fabulous restaurants in Samara as well as Nosara which is a 30 minute drive.

There is a strict limit of six on the number of guests. Persons that are not part of this approved group of renters are not allowed on the property without prior and specific approval of owner. If this rule is not followed, you will be asked to leave the property.
You will be expected to take very good care of the house as well as property. We are energy conscious and although there is AC in all bedrooms, it is not necessary to use it often and we ask that you be very conscious to not leave them on when not in the room. There is always a nice breeze up on the hill. I would also expect that the wildlife that inhabits the property is left alone and treated delicately and respectfully. There is a tribe of howler monkeys that traverse the property very close to the house and it is important to quietly and unobtrusively watch them. As far as children, due to the fact that there are unsafe areas for toddlers and also that the two other bedrooms besides the master have separate keyed entrances, this would not be a good choice unless there are enough adults to sleep with them and watch them carefully.
There is a manual for the house that you will be given by the property manager on check in. It is important to read it as there are important things about the house and property that is very beneficial for you
to know.

We had an amazing vacation. Staying in your retreat was just that, a retreat for all!! I would stay again and again. I would sit on the yoga deck and just watch the wild life. There is an iguana that lives in the tree by the pool. We enjoyed watching him everyday!! We also enjoyed the monkeys and the horses that roamed on the property next to yours. We fed all the critters with all the fresh fruit we bought while in Samara. Thank you for opening up your home to us. We look forward to visiting again!!

Linda, I am so glad you had such a wonderful time however not surprised, it is really a magic place. When I first visited the empty lot, in the early evening, it was absolutely full of fire flies, hence the name Candelitas (little candles) and I knew it was where I wanted to build my dream home/creative retreat. I am so happy to share it now with others so they can have that experience. I hope you come back and you of course are welcome anytime!!!

We had fantastic communication with both Deanne and Louise prior to our arrival. Louise is a gem and we all fell in love with her and felt so at ease knowing she was nearby to answer questions. Upon entering the house we were all amazed at the beauty and attention to detail throughout the home. We lived that the pool was off of the living room/kitchen. People could be in the pool while the sunburned folks lounges in the house but we could still all interact. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking. The monkeys were wonderful entertainment as well as the geckos and their snatching of bugs. There are so many great spaces to escape to and we particularly enjoyed the rooftop yoga and cool breezes. My family of six loved every minute of being here. We had a hard time dragging ourselves away from the house to go explore! We definitely hope to be back again! Thank you.

Candelitas can be described in one word: majestic. The view from the infinity pool as the sun sets is incredibly dramatic. The house itself is very cool, with interesting spaces and levels. It is well equipped with a full kitchen, two full bedrooms and a third that could likely accommodate children. If you plan on staying in Samara, we recommend staying here. The house itself is starting to show some age; it would be nice to see some of minor repairs completed around the house (for example stained curtains, missing tiles around the pool and bathrooms, roof glass unsafe to walk on, walls need to be painted...). Pros: Amazing pool; incredible views; secluded and quiet; full kitchen and grill; short drive to town and multiple beaches. Cons: Multiple minor repairs needed around the property; check-in/check-out process tedious.

Casa Candelitas is great! The house is situated about 10 minutes outside of Samara via car (4x4 recommended as the driveway is not paved and fairly steep) and offers a pristine getaway nestled in the tropical forest of Costa Rica. We flew into Liberia and drove down to Samara (~2 hours) which ended up working out very well. The house is beautiful. Everything is laid out very nicely and of course the pool is wonderful. We were lucky enough to be able to see plenty of howler monkeys right next to the property during our visit. Expect to see lots of wildlife as the house is nestled into the landscape at the top of a hill. We saw monkeys, frogs, moths, spiders, bats (they fly outside at night), birds, geckos, and a few others. The easiest way to keep the common area cool in the house is to leave the windows & doors open (no screens) which means that there were plenty of bugs inside the house at night so be aware of that. The bedroom has an AC unit and can be closed off from the open air areas but we still had some bugs in there during the night. It didn't really bother us much but it's worth knowing before you come down in case that's a concern. The master bedroom has an outdoor shower which was a great touch. We used the yoga room on top of the house and the view up there is spectacular. It's a great place to zone out and appreciate all that is around you. We also sat up there during some of the afternoon rain and watched the monkeys in a nearby tree. This was our first time to Costa Rica and we felt like we picked both a great place to stay as well as a great town to visit. Samara is great! It's a smaller town but there is plenty to see & do there. The only thing I noticed was that it felt like there was much more non-local food than I anticipated. We stumbled across a lot of pasta places in Samara which I thought was odd. If you look hard enough though, you'll find some real, delicious Costa Rican food! Thanks Deanne! We had a great experience.

Casa Candelitas is one of the best places we've ever stayed while on a vacation. It was the perfect oasis for our group of 6 visiting Costa Rica for our friends wedding. With an infinity pool, yoga deck, open kitchen, outside dining area, 3 bedrooms and a 360 degree view that includes the ocean, hillsides and trees; this place really does have it all. The pool was a definite favorite! The way it's situated right off the sliding glass doors of the living room, really make it feel integrated into the home. If we weren't in the pool, we were sitting on one of the perches with feet dangling in the water while reading a book or having a glass of wine. The temperature was just right for cooling off during the heat of the day or sitting and watching the stars before bed. The yoga deck with lounge chairs was stunning. It's on top of the house and we could almost always get a nice cool breeze due to the 360 degree view. Read a book, practice yoga or simply watch the sunrise or sunset. Kitchen. Perfect for group dinners and hanging out. During our week long stay, we cooked every meal at the house except for 2 dinners and 2 lunches. We'd go to the fish market, produce stand and Green Iguana market and stock up on necessities about every other day. Then we'd chef it up in the well stocked kitchen. It seemed to provide everything we needed, including a Weber bbq on the patio, perfect for grilling our meat and fish. The outdoor dining area with easy access to the kitchen made for the perfect place to start and end a good meal. The day of the wedding we treated the bride and groom to a pineapple mimosa breakfast on the patio. So memorable! The master suite with large open air shower and separate door to the pool was perfect for the couple getting married, while the other two rooms made for great privacy. All three rooms have plenty of closet space and storage while featuring open air showers offering a nice connection to the outdoors. And then there was Camilla, Deanne's dog who was staying at the neighbor's house down the hill. Just like a good girl, she would come up the hill every evening to check on the house and greet us with a wagging tail and smile. If we were eating on the patio she would protect us by chasing potential critters down the hill so we could relax. She was the icing on the cake! So many times throughout our stay we mentioned how much thought and care went into designing this house in such as way as to take advantage of the scenery and cater to the serenity and relaxation Costa Rica offers. We'd love to stay at Deanne's place again and highly recommend it to those considering a trip to Samara. Thanks Deanne! Matt, Devon, Karsten, Becca, Andrea & Brad

We had an amazing stay at Deanne's. The house is wonderful, and so is the pool, particularly at sunset. The roof is also a great spot for bird-watching! Would recommend.

This is a serene, quiet location with an absolutely wonderful view. Great for a group of adults because each of the three bedrooms has it's own bathroom - a nice feature. A very functional kitchen. The pool and yoga roof are both amazing. It's about a $15USD cab ride, 10 minute drive or 1.5 hour walk (through rural and jungle areas!) from Playa Samara. We absolutely loved it and would love to return someday!

we are both artists with a gallery in Sonoma. We are there to do an installation at a design showcase house in Tiburon. I do yoga, we are both quiet and creative. I used to live in both Fairfax and Woodacre so I know the Mill Valley area. You can check out both of us online on , or youtube.
