Beautiful, modern home, high on a hill with gorgeous views of mountains and ocean. Very private place to immerse yourself in nature. Enjoy a glass of wine in the infinity pool, which you can walk right into from the living area or master suite, or cook gourmet meals while you view the mountains, birds, and monkeys. The yoga deck on top is a truly amazing place to practice yoga, get creative and recharge your creative juices, or get a massage from a very gifted therapist. There are other sun decks for laying in the sun or shade to relax.
The location offers a real experience of serenity, being in nature while living in elegance and being close enough to town and the beach to access all of the wonderful conveniences Playa Samara has to offer.
The house is full of paintings and glass art installations done by the owner for your pleasure and or purchase. It is like living in a gallery in the middle of the forest. If you love elegance, art, yoga, bliss and/or serenity, this is the place for you!
The beaches which are close by are Samara and Carrillo Beach which were both named as the most beautiful beaches in Central America. Both are amazing! You will want a car while here preferably a four wheel drive. There is public transport if you do not want a car but we are about a 10 minute drive from town. There are many fabulous restaurants in Samara as well as Nosara which is a 30 minute drive.
You will be expected to take very good care of the house as well as property. We are energy conscious and although there is AC in all bedrooms, it is not necessary to use it often. There is always a nice breeze up on the hill. I would also expect that the wildlife that inhabits the property is left alone and treated delicately and respectfully. There is a tribe of howler monkeys that traverse the property very close to the house and it is important to quietly and unobtrusively watch them.
There is a manual for the house that you will be given by the property manager on check in. It is important to read it as there are important things about the house and property that you will need to know.
Staying at Casa Candelitas was the perfect balance between being confident that everything was taken care of, and being left to do our own thing. The house itself is beautiful and peaceful. We were 3 adults and one 9 year old. Having our own pool was wonderful and meant we really didn't have to go anywhere if we didn't want to. We had tranquil meals outside on the back deck with the birds and monkeys, did yoga on the deck in the breeze, seeing the ocean in the distance...what could be better for some cold Canadians looking for beauty and nature (but without the snow)? We are back home but feel much gratitude for our time there.
We loved our vacation at Casa Candelitas! It was the nicest place where we have ever stayed on holidays. This was the first week of our Cost Rica trip and we almost stayed in the house, hanging around in the pool and admiring the beautiful landscape. The architecture of the house is admirable, the furniture and the composition of colors so beautiful, everything totally relaxing. The house and the surrounding is in a very good condition, everything clean and the garden and pool are perfectly cared for. We had lots of fun with reagarding the monkeys and had no problems with bugs in the house, because we kept the doors closed at night. Thank you Deanne, also for your lovely present!
Casa Candelitas is great! The house is situated about 10 minutes outside of Samara via car (4x4 recommended as the driveway is not paved and fairly steep) and offers a pristine getaway nestled in the tropical forest of Costa Rica. We flew into Liberia and drove down to Samara (~2 hours) which ended up working out very well.
The house is beautiful. Everything is laid out very nicely and of course the pool is wonderful. We were lucky enough to be able to see plenty of howler monkeys right next to the property during our visit. Expect to see lots of wildlife as the house is nestled into the landscape at the top of a hill. We saw monkeys, frogs, moths, spiders, bats (they fly outside at night), birds, geckos, and a few others. The easiest way to keep the common area cool in the house is to leave the windows & doors open (no screens) which means that there were plenty of bugs inside the house at night so be aware of that. The bedroom has an AC unit and can be closed off from the open air areas but we still had some bugs in there during the night. It didn't really bother us much but it's worth knowing before you come down in case that's a concern.
The master bedroom has an outdoor shower which was a great touch. We used the yoga room on top of the house and the view up there is spectacular. It's a great place to zone out and appreciate all that is around you. We also sat up there during some of the afternoon rain and watched the monkeys in a nearby tree.
This was our first time to Costa Rica and we felt like we picked both a great place to stay as well as a great town to visit. Samara is great! It's a smaller town but there is plenty to see & do there. The only thing I noticed was that it felt like there was much more non-local food than I anticipated. We stumbled across a lot of pasta places in Samara which I thought was odd. If you look hard enough though, you'll find some real, delicious Costa Rican food!
Thanks Deanne! We had a great experience.
Our stay at Casa Candelitas was memorable. Staying in that house is an experience in itself. Everything has been built putting in front art, nature and yoga. We really appreciated the pool next to the commun area, taking a glass of wine or read a book at the sunset on the deck at the second level, taking the first coffee on the morning in the living room with this nice breeze that passed throught the house. Without forgetting the daily visit of monkeys next to the house. Saying in that house will make you forget everyhing about your life at home and you have evrything there to have a peaceful stay.
The kitcheen and the house are full equiped and you also have access to a BBQ to grilled you some stuff. We cooked at the house the most of the time. The house is at 15 minutes driving to the beach, restaurants and boutiques.
We didn’t meet Deanne unfortunately, the owner but we’ve talked by mail and once there, for any questions or problems there is her neighbor Louise. We wish we could meet Deanne one day, she was so nice to us.
I really suggest you staying in Casa Candelitas… our 2 weeks there was one of our best travel experiences.
Casa Candelitas is one of the best places we've ever stayed while on a vacation. It was the perfect oasis for our group of 6 visiting Costa Rica for our friends wedding.
With an infinity pool, yoga deck, open kitchen, outside dining area, 3 bedrooms and a 360 degree view that includes the ocean, hillsides and trees; this place really does have it all.
The pool was a definite favorite! The way it's situated right off the sliding glass doors of the living room, really make it feel integrated into the home. If we weren't in the pool, we were sitting on one of the perches with feet dangling in the water while reading a book or having a glass of wine. The temperature was just right for cooling off during the heat of the day or sitting and watching the stars before bed.
The yoga deck with lounge chairs was stunning. It's on top of the house and we could almost always get a nice cool breeze due to the 360 degree view. Read a book, practice yoga or simply watch the sunrise or sunset.
Kitchen. Perfect for group dinners and hanging out. During our week long stay, we cooked every meal at the house except for 2 dinners and 2 lunches. We'd go to the fish market, produce stand and Green Iguana market and stock up on necessities about every other day. Then we'd chef it up in the well stocked kitchen. It seemed to provide everything we needed, including a Weber bbq on the patio, perfect for grilling our meat and fish.
The outdoor dining area with easy access to the kitchen made for the perfect place to start and end a good meal. The day of the wedding we treated the bride and groom to a pineapple mimosa breakfast on the patio. So memorable!
The master suite with large open air shower and separate door to the pool was perfect for the couple getting married, while the other two rooms made for great privacy. All three rooms have plenty of closet space and storage while featuring open air showers offering a nice connection to the outdoors.
And then there was Camilla, Deanne's dog who was staying at the neighbor's house down the hill. Just like a good girl, she would come up the hill every evening to check on the house and greet us with a wagging tail and smile. If we were eating on the patio she would protect us by chasing potential critters down the hill so we could relax. She was the icing on the cake!
So many times throughout our stay we mentioned how much thought and care went into designing this house in such as way as to take advantage of the scenery and cater to the serenity and relaxation Costa Rica offers.
We'd love to stay at Deanne's place again and highly recommend it to those considering a trip to Samara.

we are both artists with a gallery in Sonoma. We are there to do an installation at a design showcase house in Tiburon. I do yoga, we are both quiet and creative. I used to live in both Fairfax and Woodacre so I know the Mill Valley area. You can check out both of us online on (website hidden), (website hidden) or youtube.
