Cozy room in a beautiful house in quiet surroundings in the heart of Hafnarfjörður, only 15 minutes from Reykjavík center (by car) and 30 minutes from Keflavík Airport. 1 double bed.
The house is over 100 years old and has played a historically important role in Hafnarfjörður.
We have a beautiful garden where you can enjoy the evening sun.
My mother and I will be home and available every night.
The house is in walking distance from the famous viking village, the local geothermal swimming pool, the Hellisgerði elf garden and many of the town's most interesting museums.
The house is in walking distance from the central bus station in Hafnarfjörður, with connections to Reykjavík every 15 minutes.
We have a small dog. She does not bite and is very kind to guests.
Óskar and her mom were helpful and nice with us. A cool place to have a long stay near Reykjavik. We saw the aurora the night we arrived.
I can not say enough good things about our experience. My husband and I stayed here two different times and for a total of four nights during our week-long holiday to Iceland. We immediately felt at home. The bed was extremely comfortable, the room was very warm and cozy, and the bedroom window had the best view of Hafnarfjodur. We quickly fell in love with the town, and unexpectedly so, as we did not know much information about Hafnarfjodur before booking our stay here. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Jonina, but Oskar was so friendly and helpful when we were interested in looking at the locations that have been preserved for the elves. If you plan a stay here, I highly recommend visiting Hellisgerði park, which is just a block or two away from the home. Also, our absolute favorite place to have breakfast was at Súfistinn, which is also walking distance from their home. We really hope to come back and visit Iceland again soon. When we do, we are definitely staying here again!
We had such a great time staying with Jonina and Oskar, they are both extremely helpful and very kind hosts. The house is clean and tidy and we had plenty of room to keep things in the kitchen and our bedroom. Privacy is also not an issue even with other guests staying at the same time. The town is peaceful and safe and has great connections to Reykjavik (30-40 minutes on the bus that runs everyday), and even though Hafnarfjordur is small, there is still plenty to see.
If you're planning on going to Iceland then I can't recommended this place enough, I would not hesitate to stay here again and have greatly enjoyed my time here.
Staying in this adorable house with Oskar and his mom, Jonina, and their sweet dog was lovely! They are both so kind and hospitable. It was great to have some chats with Jonina and get pointers on things to do in the area. The room we stayed in was lovely, quaint, and warm from the geothermal heater :) it had a great view and, should the northern lights appear, there would be a perfect view from the window!
We had a beautiful stay in Iceland. Thank you!
My month-long stay with Jonina and Oskar was wonderful. They are very kind, welcoming and generous people, going out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. It was just like being one of the family. :) The dogs were super friendly, cute and quiet, too...I'm going to miss all of you so much!
The house itself is *beautiful*, one of the gems among AirBNB. It's well-decorated, kept spotless, spacious and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals, there are two very clean bathrooms (the upstairs one with a great bathtub for relaxing in the hot water), the whole place is just really stylish and warm.
I rented the room for 2 people, which fit me perfectly as a solo traveler. Lots of drawer space for possessions, a big, comfortable memory foam bed from IKEA (and you AirBNB travelers know how rare big, comfortable beds are), a reclining chair with footrest and a beautiful view of the Hafnarfjordur harbor. I spent a lot of nights with my curtains open looking out at the lights all around the water.
The house is conveniently located for traveling needs, you can walk:
- 5 minutes to the Fjordur Shopping Center, a hub for local buses (you can buy bus tickets at the 10-11 store inside and pay for them with a credit card, there is also a bank with an ATM). Right in the same area there are coffee shops, hair salons, clothing and souvenir stores, a library and more!
- 2 minutes to the Hellisgerdi Elf Garden
- 12 minutes to the Kronan grocery store
- 15 minutes to the Bonus grocery store
- 8 minutes to the Hotel Viking, which is a convenient pickup/dropoff spot for all Reykjavik Excursion bus tours (to the Blue Lagoon, Northern Lights Tours, etc.)
- 30 minutes to a beautiful nearby small mountain with a high view over the entire coast up to Reykjavik and beyond, great for pictures. There's a big square pile of stones up there you can see from the front windows of the house. :)
There are lots of other little restaurants and shops around the main roads nearby, Subways, burger and hot dog restaurants, sushi, etc. Even a Taco Bell/KFC for other Americans out there. :) You can also catch a bus from Fjordur or the Sjonarholl bus stop just up the street to ride into central Reykjavik, and get dropped off coming back at the Hellisgerdi stop for a 2 minute walk back to the house.
I met a lot of other guests from many different countries while staying there, and every one said the same thing - none of us wanted to leave! :) If you're coming to Iceland, do yourself a favor and stay with Jonina and Oskar. Thanks again for everything! :)

I'm Óskar Steinn, a 19 year old living in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. I work at a kindergarten and am planning to attend university next year. I'm very interested in travel and tourism and want to work in the sector in the future. I'm also interested in environmentalism and have worked with environmental organisations in Iceland and Norway.
I live with my mother, Jónína, who works as a social worker. We've been renting out the spare room in our house for years, but we're new to airbnb.com. We love hosting foreign travelers in our house during their stay in Iceland.
