Interaction with Guests
I enjoy interacting with guests and I respect people's privacy. This home has a variety of room options available and as such, operates much like a traditional bed and breakfast with shared common spaces. You may be the sole visitor, or there may be several guests at one time, providing an opportunity to meet a variety of people. The home is quite large with many beautiful spaces for all to enjoy on the main floor. Private bedrooms with either shared or private bath (master bedroom or suite) are located on the 2nd floor. I ask that guests be respectful of each other at Dearing Mansion. Because of the historic nature of the home and the shared aspect, it is well suited for adults (older children may be considered).
This place is so beautiful you won't even want to go out! I came in exhausted from my travels and work and took a nap and then just wanted to watch the light change in the late afternoon to evening through the stained glass windows.
It's a great place. It was a nice, quiet getaway that definitely recharged our batteries and helped us relax. The house has so much character to it. We will surely go back sometime. Our host made sure we had everything we needed. By staying just one night I found out you can have fun when doing nothing . . . and oh, there's a heck of a view.
The master bedroom suite served us well as we anticipated the arrival of all of our family for our son's wedding. Having the kitchen open and available was a plus as we had much planning to do over breakfast. Thank you!
This was without question one of the very best B&B experiences we've ever had. Scott was a fabulous host. He seemed to anticipate everything we could possibly need and was very gracious about showing us around this amazing house and giving us the history of the building and even its contents. We were astonished at the amount of TLC and talent that went into the restoration and furnishing of every room.
The house was even better than we had imagined. It's huge and full of beautiful furniture, art and accessories, and there are 5-6 gorgeous fireplaces and stained glass windows. It's also completely functional-- there's a small library, a large-screen TV, a stereo and racks of CDs and old vinyl, and even a sauna. The master bedroom was spacious and comfortable, with its own bath with 2-person shower and heated floor. The kitchen was well stocked with a variety of breakfast items, and the cozy dining area was a great place to enjoy coffee with other guests. As for location, the house is about a 10-minute walk from the Mississippi River. There's a terrific view of the St. Paul skyline from the back deck, which features plenty of seating, a barbecue grill and a chiminea. The driveway had ample space for several cars, so we didn't need to park on the street. We had a memorable stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home to anyone looking for a unique B&B in the Twin Cities area.
This was our second visit to Scott's Mansion and it was just as spectacular! The house is amazing, full of character and very tastefully decorated. The location to downtown is quick and easy.
Scott is a wonderful host and very helpful answering all our questions.
We hope to come back again next year. Thanks again Scott for your hospitality.

The host was kind and informative. The place is impressive and beautiful. Scott made us feel at home to help ourselves to breakfast. A very pleasant stay and a lot of house to experience, beautifully done. Easy access to St Paul center and anywhere else.
Although I did not get to meet Scott in person, he was readily available via phone and text. His access instructions were clear and accurate. The house was beautiful with a lot of historic charm. Add to that the wonderful decor and artifacts thoughtfully placed in each room, even a bit about the history of the home, and you have a very pleasant experience! The view overlooking downtown was nice- I wish we could have stayed longer!

About the Host, Scott
I am a residential remodeling contractor specializing in older homes. I live in this home part time with my 19 year old son until late August. My 21 year old other son is back from college for the summer also living with me part time. You may or may not see them.
I love sharing my historic home with guests either during gala events or for a cup of coffee or tea in the kitchen or living room in front of a fire.
The house is truly a treasure. It is one of the most unique homes in St. Paul. The back deck has wonderful views of St. Paul which is a 5 minute drive from Downtown St. Paul. In my spare time I love to travel, sea kayak, and lindyhop swing dance. I'm always game for a canoe trip, a great single malt scotch, a Broadway show, a home improvement project around the house involving hanging any kind of art or a good conversation. As a guest you will be welcomed, given the tour and assisted in any way I can.
Photos of bedroom coming soon.
