The best way to really get to know Dublin is on foot which is why this location is so attractive to visitors. Please be mindful of the fact that this is a functioning home. There is ample clothes storage in the shape of a wardrobe and ten very large drawers. I am passionate about Dublin and about travel in general - as well as arts and culture - and will give you ideas on what to see and do if you want. The house is cleaned to a high standard on your arrival and I ask that you leave it in good shape when you leave. When you tire of all the partying that the city has to offer you may just want to make yourself some supper and snuggle up in front of the fire - which is exactly what this house is designed for. And in the morning, the famous Bretzel bakery is literally on your doorstep for early morning bagels and muffins. Or, treat yourself to an amazing breakfast in one of the nearby cafes such as Wall and Keogh which is at the end of the street. You can take your pick from Dublin's restaurants, all just down the road - Camden Kitchen is classy and good value, Green 19 does dinner for a tenner. The Bernard Shaw pub is around the corner for hipsters - and Cassidy's is the place to go if you simply want the best pint of Guinness in town - again around the corner from this house. The Jewish Museum, George Bernard Shaw's birthplace, The Iveagh Gardens and a whole host of other cultural sights are minutes away as are good supermarkets, off-licences and delis. You can easily walk into town to see Temple Bar, The Irish Film Institute, The Book of Kells, the National Gallery and Museum - and much more. The St Patrick's Day Parade ends close to the house.

Interaction with Guests
I love meeting guests and I give you extensive notes and ideas of what to see and do in Dublin.
Portobello is an exceptional place to live - very sought after - right by the leafy Grand Canal with its walk ways and cycle track, where you can also go kayaking or simply admire the swans. It's within walking distance of all visitor attractions - or on a bus route to the more remote ones. It feels like real 'old' Dublin and is full or up and coming eateries and bars and venues - it really is the most desirable of locations in the entire city. The area has a very youthful feel to it and is full of life and energy. Portobello is an area stretching westwards from South Richmond Street as far as Upper Clanbrassil Street bordered on the north by the South Circular Road and on the south by the Grand Canal. As a fast-expanding Dublin suburb during the 19th century, Portobello attracted many upwardly-mobile families whose members went on to play important roles in politics, the arts and the sciences.
There is great public transport - buses, Luas, close to DART, trains, rentable bikes from Dublin Bikes - free for journeys of under 30 minutes - and of course in walking distance of everywhere.
This house is a charming space, just completely revamped and redecorated. Please treat it as you would your own home.
Smoking is not permitted inside and sorry, no furry pets!
The house will be spick and span when you arrive – please leave it just as you find it.
Please be mindful of security: close all windows and remember to lock the bottom Chubb lock on the front door as you enter and leave.
Considering we are so close to the city centre, the area is surprisingly quiet. Neighbours appreciate you keeping it this way - especially after 10pm please.
I stayed in Hilary's house for almost 3 weeks in September and loved her place! It is, as described in the listing, brilliantly located close to all the restaurants, cafes, pubs etc that you need but also close to the canal on a quiet street. The house is very cosy and has all the modern appliances and comforts that you would expect. The booking was very straight forward and Hilary very responsive and a pleasure to deal with. I would highly recommend Hilary's place to anyone coming to Dublin on a short or long term stay. Thanks for everything Hilary and when I'm next in Dublin, I'll be looking to stay again!
Hilary is a lovely host with a nice place and provided lots of advice on the area and easy to communicate with. The house is clean and secure in a good area not far from the Grand Canal which is nice to walk along. Located very close to Dublin CBD (Downtown) about 15 minutes walking. There are restaurants and pubs nearby with plenty of choices. The house is a home with lots of books and nick knacks making it a restful place. Good heating and fireplace to take the chill off the Dublin air.
Would stay again and thank you Hilary for a good Dublin stay.
I had the pleasure of renting Hilary's house for one month in November. This was a very nice place to stay in Dublin. The house itself is quite cozy and everything functioned very well. All appliances as well as wifi worked exceptionally well, the bed was very comfy and plenty of hot water in the shower. There is also a functioning fireplace to keep warm on those cold nights. The neighborhood is exceptional, as there are tons of restaurants, shops, cafes, etc....within 2-5 minute walk of the house. Walking into the Temple Bar area only takes about 15 minutes and you pass by lots of cool places on the way. There was also a good gym just 2 blocks away. The booking process was quite easy and Hilary was a pleasure to deal with, and we spent some time together exploring Dublin and a good sushi place together. I would not hesitate a second to recommend renting her house to anyone coming to Dublin. Hilary is one of the most gracious hosts I have had the pleasure to work with, and am thankful that I was able to connect with such a good person. Thanks for everything, Hilary! I look forward to staying in touch.
We had a wonderful stay at Hilary's place. She was kind enough to offer her air mattress and pump so that my friend and I could have separate sleeping areas. Everything was clean (especially the bathroom, which is very important). The kitchen was fully stocked, but we really didn't need it because the restaurant around the corner was so fantastic! The walk to the city center was not a big deal and we always felt safe in the neighborhood. Hilary is very friendly and accommodating.
My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay at Hilary's place. It's situated in a quiet neighbourhood (with trees and a river nearby) and still in walking distance to the centre of Dublin. That suited us very well. The place itself has everything you need and is furnished and decorated in a very private way which makes you feel most welcome. It's just like a home away from home. I can certainly recommend Hilary's Charming Dublinhouse.
Best regards - also to Hilary's sweet mother who so kindly welcomed us and let us in when we arrived late in the evening, thank you.
Our stay at Hilary's home was excellent. Her flat is in a great location close to the canal in a quiet residential street (just around the corner from George Bernard Shaw's old home). There are some top cafes, bars & restaurants close by and the centre of town is only a 15/20 minute walk away. The flat itself makes for great accommodation with all the necessary home comforts available and it made for a nice change of pace sometimes to have a quiet evening in making dinner for ourselves in the kitchen and relaxing in the living room with a DVD or book. Hilary was extremely helpful and always prompt in her response to any queries we had, even going so far as to provide us with recommendations of other places to visit for the rest of our subsequent trip around Ireland. Thanks Hilary!
Exactly what one imagines! A home.
Hilary's house was a fantastic place to stay in Dublin. Immaculately clean, great books, a respite. Lovely bedroom on very very quiet street, on the fringes of a slightly run -down and very real neighborhood, local pub, cafes and restaurants. Lots of nooks and cranny for work spaces or just getting away. A fifteen minute walk from St. Stephen's Green (though perhaps not recommended for a woman alone after midnight). Communication with Hilary was incredibly good - she responded quickly, clearly, with very detailed instructions. A pleasure to stay in your house - thank you!
