We are a young artist couple in our twenties. There are three rooms for guests. Amazing public transportation (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, A, C, E, B, D subway, M60 bus), clean, friendly atmosphere, fun, safe neighborhood. : )
Thanks so much for your interest! Before you read on, please know that this listing is not a good match for you if:
You have more bags than you can carry up and down three flights of stairs.
You are afraid of cats-- our cat likes to meet our guests and cuddle! You don't have to pet her, but if you are terrified of a cat walking up to you and purring, better off finding a host with no pets.
Need a very quiet place to stay. NYC is not the city for you if you need utter silence to fall asleep.
This listing is for the Scarlet Room. We have three bedrooms available in one apartment. We live in the apartment; there are a total of four bedrooms and one bathroom along with kitchen and living room for guest use.
The Scarlet Room is our smallest, most modestly sized room. It features a twin sized bed, small desk and chair, dressers, drawers under the bed, full-length mirror, and an over-the-door clothes rack. The Scarlet Room is strictly for one guest.
To view the other two rooms and their availability, please click on "Asani & Sueminn" at the top of this page ^^^^^^^^^^^

No deposit, no cleaning fee, no fee per person, no extra charges! The only extra fee we ask is for $20 if you check in before 12 pm or leave your bags after 11 am. No curfew, and complete freedom to come in and out of the apartment and use our kitchen and cooking tools. 10% automatic discount for 7 nights or more. Free sheets and towels, internet/wifi, and coffee, tea, drinking water, and basic cooking necessities always free for your use in the kitchen. :)
Big, sunny four-bedroom in Harlem, New York. Recently renovated, clean kitchen, living room, one bathroom. Fully furnished private room. Lots of cool decor and furniture in the apartment! We love to add or change things bit by bit and the apartment looks different (better and better) every week. Most of our windows are south-facing, so we have great sunlight all day.
We work hard to keep the home clean, and provide fresh sheets and towels for each guest. You will receive keys for your bedroom, the apartment, and for the building. :)
Our place is ideal for travelers looking for an authentic New York City experience-- a relaxed, artistic home with a few friendly faces waiting for new guests!
See you soon!

Interaction with Guests
We live in the apartment, and work from home most days, running in and out throughout the day for meetings and errands. Interaction is up to the guest-- we respect your privacy, but if you'd like to chat, we'd love to get to know you.
The area is very safe. We have lived here for more than 3 years and have had zero bad experiences coming home or walking around at all hours of night and day. We have had over two hundred Airbnb guests and as you can see from our reviews, not one person had an unsafe experience here.
Central Harlem has great nightlife, museums, and other hangouts. Popular places to visit include Maysle's Independent Cinema, the Lenox Jazz Lounge, the Studio Museum of Harlem, the world-famous soul food eateries Red Rooster and Sylvia's, the Apollo theater, and much more-- all within 5 minute walking distance from the apartment. Marcus Garvey Park and the New York Public Library are both just one block away. Central Park is a 10 minute walk. 24 hour gyms and laundromats within 5 minutes. Lots of restaurants and cafes, grocery stores, delis, and weekend Farmers and Craft Markets in the neighborhood.
Extremely convenient public transportation to all of NYC-- 15 minutes from Times Square by subway. Subway is about a 1 minute walk from our door.
We are one block from the 2 and 3 subway lines, two blocks from the A, B, C, and D subway lines, and four blocks from the 4, 5, 6 subway lines. This means anywhere in the 5-borough area is extremely accessible, with Times Square 15 minutes away. The M60 (Laguardia Airport), M100, M101, BX15 buses all stop one block from the apartment, and we are 3 blocks from the MetroNorth train station (to suburbs in New York state and Connecticut). Public transportation available to Newark, LaGuardia, and JFK airports.
Other Things to Note
Please note that we are on the fourth floor, and do not have an elevator.
Check in is flexible-- you can come any time after 12 noon. Please check out by 11 am.
Please, do not bring any other guests into the home without speaking to us first. If you have a friend who would like to join you, certainly let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Please keep the communal areas (living room, kitchen, bathroom) clean of your belongings. If you put your food in the kitchen, please put your name on it so we know not to eat it :) . If you use dishes, wash them.
You can smoke on the FIRE ESCAPE, which you can access through the kitchen window. It's very safe and a nice view of the neighborhood!
We would love it if you would leave your shoes at the door.
Great experience! The room is perfect. Warm, comfortable and well-decorated. The bathroom is perfect as well, I was pretty enjoy the moment taking shower. Hosts are wonderful, super friendly. I love those guys. I hope visit them again in the future. BTW, for auditioner in NYC it is a good choice, not far from Juilliard and MSM.
I had the best time at Rudy & Casey & Asani & Sueminn's! I met Rudy, Asani and Sueminn and everyone was super helpful and nice. The apartment was clean and lovely, the neighborhood safe and full of everything. I am happy I stayed in Harlem.
Lots of hot water, towels and blankets for guest use. Can recommend this place for absolutely everyone.
The room is cozy. Had no problems throughout my stay. My hosts were wonderful, very helpful and understanding. Wish I had more time to hang out with them. I'll definitely recommend this to anyone
This was my first time using Airbnb and my first time in the East coast. Sueminn responded to my request instantly and provided me all the transit details I needed to get to the apartment, making planning my trip much easier. The room was beautiful and well cleaned. There were maps on the wall and lots of towels. Everything in the apartment was well organized. Sueminn was great at pointing me at the right direction for food places too, she even drew me a map. She made me feel more instantly comfortable in Harlem. Hoping all my future Airbnbs will be just as wonderful as this one, couldn't have expected a better place to stay. Thank you!
Absolutely loved my stay at Asani and Sueminn's. The room was exactly as pictured, and they also had a new, mini heater that I could use in the room should I get cold (there were also extra blankets in the living room). Everything from the bed to the kitchen and bathroom were clean. Though I didn't get a chance to meet Asani, Sueminn was a great host, as were her dog and cat! Being just minutes away from the metro and a walkable distance from Columbia, this was the most perfect stay for me (:
I really enjoyed my stay at Asani & Sueminn's place. Not only was the location ideal for exploring New York city (great connection with public transport: busses and subway), the appartment itself and my room (The Scarlet Room) were everything one could wish for. Plenty of towels, warm blankets, a variety of tea,... Asani & Sueminn did their utmost best to make my stay as comfortable as possible and on multiple occasions they offered me advice on how to get around in the city or where to find certain things. However, I just wanted to point out that from the reviews here I expected an extremely small room, but actually it wasn't that bad. The Scarlet Room is spacious enough for one person and I really felt at home. Also, the appartment was kept very tidy and clean, which made it extra nice to come home in the evenings. Moreover, I love what they did with the place and it was extremely refreshing to actually live in somebody's home rather than to stay in an impersonal hotel. Additional pluspoint, the shower is amazing (raindrup system). I also particularly appreciated that Asani & Sueminn gave me my privacy, while at the same time made me feel at home. This was my first experience with renting a room through Airbnb and it went way better than anticipated! Having shared houses in the past with various people, I know how easily things can go wrong, but nothing of that sort happened here! Also I would like to point out that as a woman travelling alone, I felt safe in this area, day and night. All in all, I am glad that I decided to try Airbnb rather than a hostel/hotel, and in particular, I am very happy that I chose to stay with Asani & Sueminn. They are great hosts and if you are planning to visit NYC, I suggest you contact them!
I really loved staying here! The apartment had a great vibe to it and Sueminn & Asani were really friendly. Would definitely stay here again. Very close to bus and subway as well which was good.
