Interaction with Guests
I'm more than happy to give you advice and tips on where to go around the lake and can send you in the right direction to visit NGOs, other towns, organize hiking, cycling, kayaking, meet local Mayan artisans, volunteering opportunities, sacred cacao ceremonies or walking tours with local guides. Or if you there's something else you've heard of just ask!
It's close to the centre of town, yet just a short distance away to feel more private and less hectic. It's a 5 minute walk from the magical lake Atitlan.
It's safe at night, you can visit some of the restaurants and bars and walk home, they are all less than 10 mins away.
The easiest way to get about town is by tuk tuks
(3 wheeled motor taxi usually seen in asia)
they are convenient, frequent and cheap (under a dollar).
Pana is a small town and it's easy to walk around, everything is with in reach.
Other Things to Note
Pana and the lake are a great place to come to pamper yourself with massages, facials as well as many healing therapies such as accupuncture, reiki and reflexology to name a few.
Basic common sense.
I stayed with Mathilda for four nights. Her place worked perfectly for me. The house is located in a quiet section of Panajachel but is only a 5 min walk to the main commercial street in the tourist zone, 5 min walk to the lake shore, a 10-12 min walk to the boat dock, and 15 min to Centro. The accomodations are comfy well outfitted. She provides a map, and most helpfully, a local's advice on places to eat and things to do. I would definitely recommend to friends.
It was a really nice experience to be able to stay in Mathilda's house. Lovely bedroom and the house is very charming. Is close to everything. And the best part is that I feel so welcome. Mathilda make me some tea right after my arrival and also give amazing recommendations. She also show where to take the ferry. Very lovely time in Panajachel. I am more than please to stay again there.
Both Mathilda and her home are very lovely. The space is filled with character and close to the center of Pana, which makes it feel very safe. I really enjoyed my time here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway!
Mathilda met us at the front gate upon arrival. She gave us a map of Panajachel and suggested places to eat and visit. Mathilda is very warm and welcoming and her home is charming!
Même si je suis restée très peu de temps, je me suis sentie comme à la maison. Matilda est une hôtesse très chaleureuse. La chambre était parfaite, le lit confortable, bref, j'y retournerai!
Everything about the listing was completely accurate. Mathilda is a wonderful host. She is extremely helpful with any questions you may have about the area including things to do, places to eat, where to go and how to get there. I had a wonderful time staying there and cannot imagine my trip if I had stayed anywhere else--it was a stay that enhanced my experience in Panajachel. I would recommend staying here a million times over.
Staying at Mathilda's was an absolute treat! Not only was the room, house and garden all a paradise unto itself, and in a super location, but Mathilda is a very warm and special person who made my stay so wonderful that it was hard to leave... Mathilda was extremely generous with her time and local knowledge taking to me the secondhand huipil market (paradise for textile lovers) and other places of interest. I couldn't recommend Mathilda more highly as an Air BnB host. I hope to return again soon! Thanks for a truly wonderful stay (website hidden) Mathilda is also a brilliant astrologer!
