About this listing
I have a 1920's bungalow on a shady street in a great historic neighborhood. It's a block from the Douglass Loop, a little triangular area where "back in the day" the old trolly cars used to turn around. It now holds a coffee shop, ice cream parlor, bakery, hardware store, pub and several restaurants. You won't have far to go to get whatever you need!
The room has french doors that open to the back deck of the house. There is a table for 4 and umbrella where you can enjoy a drink or coffee and listen to the birds. There is a Kreuig for coffee/tea anytime, and you'll have access to the fridge & microwave. I'm sorry, but I no longer can offer access to the stove for cooking. I provide a limited continental breakfast (oatmeal, granola bars, coffee, tea).
I have no dogs/cats and don't allow pets due to my allergies. I do have a Bearded Dragon (pet lizard) in a vivarium in my living room;)
**Whole house is available for rental at certain times of year (such as Derby). See my "other listings" for details.
The room is on the first floor (my bedrooms are upstairs). It is near the kitchen and you'll have access to a 1/2 bath off the kitchen (hairdryer provided). The full bath (shower) is at the top of the stairs and is shared. Towels/washcloths are provided in both bathrooms.
I work during the day, so you'll have the house to yourself much of the time. I enjoy meeting new people and would love to visit in the evenings a bit, however. I'm happy to give recommendations for what to do while in Louisville and am always available via cell to answer any questions you might have during your stay.
The neighborhood is very eclectic with historic homes, art galleries, boutiques, and great local eateries. Streets are tree-lined and make for great walking to nearby attractions. Cherokee Park is nearby with hiking trails, pedestrian/bike lanes and shady picnic spots.
It's only 6 houses from a major bus line and centrally located for affordable cab fair. Interstate access is 5 min away.
Enjoy a complimentary bowl of chocolates in your room!
Mutual respect is all I ask:) I work 9-4, so quiet hours from 11pm till 6:30 am.
No smoking in the house. Smoking is permitted on both porches, but please dispose of cigarettes in ashtrays provided.
I no longer am able to allow guests to use the stove for cooking. Guests may have space in the refrigerator and use of the microwave.
Melissa was super-friendly and welcoming. Her house was very clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again. Within walking distance are some great restaurants and access to public transportation for excursions downtown.
I met Melissa when I stayed for 2 days at her place. I am a frequent traveller to Louisville and usually detest the traveling as its tiring which is made worse by the fact that it takes me lots of time to get used to a place before I could comfortably sleep.
The moment I entered the house I was entranced and I absolutely loved how the house has a sort of charm about it. This time my stay was so much more relaxing. Melissa room truly felt like home to me and it had all the required amenities for a wonderful stay.
I am very lucky and fortunate to have stayed at her place. Thank you for a great stay and hope to see you on my future trips
Melissa was a great help in getting us settled in after a long drive. Her home is extremely clean and beautifully decorated, something which is reflective of all her wonderful, eclectic tastes. We felt completely welcome and at home as soon as we arrived. The room was very comfortable and allowed for plenty of privacy. After a great night of rest, we spend much of the following morning chatting with Melissa over breakfast. The only thing bad about this visit was that we weren't able to stay longer! We're definitely going to have to come back again so we can explore Louisville. Melissa's home is the perfect place to stay when doing just that.
I had a quick business trip into Louisville and stayed at Melissa's place for two nights. First off, what a wonderful host. Melissa makes you feel so welcome in her home and the location is perfect for getting around town. The "warmth" of her home is beautifully decorated, and although it was a bit warm those days, her front porch would be an ideal spot to sit for morning coffee or end of the day wind down. The bed was very comfortable and all the amenities you will need for your stay are provided. She is kind and full of life...the type of host you can kick back and have some great conversations with. I will plan to make this my spot for my trips back to Louisville.
Very cozy place, I liked it a lot. Bed is very comfortable and room is nice. Melissa was a great host and she made sure nothing was missing. If I have to go back to Louisville, I know where I want to stay.
Melissa was a perfect hostess, with everything just as her listing described it and more! We loved the neighborhood (quiet if you wanted quiet, but just a block away from some great cafes, shops, bars, etc.); we will be back!
The room and Melissa were both fantastic! The room was exactly as was listed. Clean and comfy! Melissa was super accommodating, suggesting places to go and things to do. The neighborhood was perfect. Quiet, but very centrally located with many things to do nearby.
About the Host, Melissa
I'm active and curious, so sometimes I have to work on taking time to just be still and center:) I work in the public school system and summer is a great time for me to travel or host (but I do both year-round!). I love meeting nonjudgemental, open, honest, kind, genuine folks who lead with their heart. I have LOTS of interests and love hearing about what others find interesting enough to call their hobby. I keep honeybees, create stained glass/copper artwork, practice yoga, contra dance and kayak when I get the chance. I have an herb garden and hope to get veggies going next season... IF the weather, the creeepy-crawlers and my back comply! I hope to meet you soon and hear your story!
