The Space

I have a 1920's bungalow on a shady street in a great historic neighborhood. It's a block from the Douglass Loop, a little triangular area where "back in the day" the old trolly cars used to turn around. It now holds a coffee shop, ice cream parlor, bakery, hardware store, pub and several restaurants. You won't have far to go to get whatever you need!
The room has french doors that open to the back deck of the house. There is a table for 4 and umbrella where you can enjoy a drink or coffee and listen to the birds. In the room there is a Kreuig for coffee tea anytime, and you'll have access to the kitchen/fridge. I provide a limited continental breakfast and there is a complimentary bottle of wine in the room!

**Whole house is available for rental at certain times of year (such as Derby). See my "other listings" for details.

Guest Access

The room is on the first floor (my bedrooms are upstairs). It is near the kitchen and you'll have access to a 1/2 bath off the kitchen (hairdryer provided). The full bath is at the top of the stairs and is shared.

Interaction with Guests

I work during the day, so you'll have the house to yourself much of the time. I enjoy meeting new people and would love to visit in the evenings a bit, however. I'm happy to give recommendations for what to do while in Louisville and am always available via cell to answer any questions you might have during your stay.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is very eclectic with historic homes, art galleries, boutiques, and great local eateries. Streets are tree-lined and make for great walking to nearby attractions. Cherokee Park is nearby with hiking trails, pedestrian/bike lanes and shady picnic spots.

Getting around

It's only 6 houses from a major bus line and centrally located for affordable cab fair. Interstate access is 5 min away.

Other Things to Note

Enjoy a complimentary bottle of wine (& chocolates) with your stay!

  • We just loved everything about staying with Melissa. A lovely home, very comfortable bed and bedroom. We just loved the fact that our bedroom opened out onto a private deck. Melissa was so very helpful with suggestions on what we should do and see in Louisville.
We loved just chatting and sharing a glass of wine together, this is what airbnb is all about.
Also such a lovely touch having a bottle of wine and chocolates waiting in our room for us.

  • This house exceeded my expectations, and was very charming, with a nice swing on the front porch. I stayed for three days and had a pleasant time. It is a three block walk to some fine restaurants (Cafe Lou Lou) and great coffee (Heine Brothers) and ice cream (Graeter's). There are also some bars that are walkable as well. Melissa was away, so I had the whole place to myself, which was an unexpected surprise. I highly recommend this place!

  • Our stay at Melissa's charming bungalow was perfect. Melissa was out of town but our check-in process was very easy. The room was comfy and clean and exactly as pictured. French doors off our room led to her back porch - a nice option for relaxing after a full day of exploring. The location off Bardstown Road offers plenty of local flavor. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to stay in the Highlands area of town.

  • Melissa was accommodating with our last minute check-in changes due to flight snafus. She provided clear instructions with the changes and still warmly welcomed us despite it being in the middle of the night.

The room was well organized, the bed comfortable, and bathrooms clean. We love, love the neighborhood - quaint, safe, and walking distance to great restaurants.

    Response from Melissa:

Thanks for the heads up Mary! I noticed the luggage rack after the next guest checked out. I wish more people would let me know when things get damaged. Hope to see you two again. Happy travels!

  • Melissa was a very responsive host, answering all our questions within the hour! We didn't get to meet at the house, but the room was clean, large and perfect for our Derby experience.

  • Super comfortable and an ideal location. Melissa's place really is in the coolest part of town and is within walking distance of a number of great coffee shops, restaurants, an ice cream shop and neighborhood bars. Melissa is a very welcoming and warm host. The bed is superbly comfortable and the remodeled bathroom adds an upscale flair to the unassuming and homey residence. A true home away from home.

  • My stay with Melissa was absolutely perfect. Her home is gorgeous, comfortable, and ideally located along the most happening boulevard in Louisville. The bed is sumptuous. The décor is dripping with taste. The lizard is a darling. But most importantly, Melissa is a wonderful human being--a relentlessly generous host, and a thoughtful, kindhearted soul whom you'll be grateful to have met.

  • We never met Melissa, but she was very attentive and made sure we were comfortable. The room and the house were perfect. The location is also good, close to bars and restaurants and not far from downtown. Definitely recommended!

  • I had a wonderful, restful, peaceful stay. Melissa's home is charming and beautiful, and my stay couldn't have been more perfect.

  • It's hard to overstate how pleased my girlfriend and I were after our short stay with Melissa. She is the most charming, amiable, and accommodating host we could have imagined for our first AirBnB experience.

Even though she was a bit under the weather during our few days in Louisville, she still made every effort to ensure we were oriented both in her home and in the city. In addition to being attentive, she was also super accessible, always replying promptly to calls and e-mails.

The room itself was very well kept and comfortable, perfectly situated near the kitchen, backyard, and half-bath. The house itself is so close to so many independent shops, restaurants, and cafes--we got almost everywhere on foot.

But really Melissa made our stay. It was such a pleasure getting to know her. We could not recommend her highly enough!

About
I'm active and curious, so sometimes I have to work on taking time to just be still and center:) I work in the public school system and summer is a great time for me to travel or host (but I do both year-round!). I love meeting nonjudgemental, open, honest, kind, genuine folks who lead with their heart. I have LOTS of interests and love hearing about what others find interesting enough to call their hobby. I keep honeybees, create stained glass/copper artwork, practice yoga, contra dance and kayak when I get the chance. I have an herb garden and hope to get veggies going next season... IF the weather, the creeepy-crawlers and my back comply! I hope to meet you soon and hear your story!
