We've enjoyed sharing our space and many wonderful meals with people from Germany, England, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Argentina, Cuba, Iran, New Zealand, Australia and the U.S. Our quiet, historic Vancouver neighborhood is a peaceful escape from the bustle but close enough for easy access. Downtown Vancouver offers plenty to do weekends and some week nights. Our house is comfortable, 4 blocks from Main Street and Starbucks, 2 blocks from Interstate 5, and 1 mile north of the Columbia River, which separates Washington from Oregon. We're 1.5 miles from Officers Row and Fort Vancouver, established in 1825 and from which the Pacific Northwest was settled.
The Arnada neighborhood is one of Vancouver's best walking areas, with historic houses in abundance. Our 1920 home is 2000 sq. ft. on 3 floors with 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen, living room, dining room, laundry and office. You will be renting one of three rooms we have for rent, which can accommodate 2 people in a double and 1 more in a funky 3'x9' cozy, sleeping alcove in the same room.
Your bedroom is in the basement/bottom floor, which is the newest, remodeled part of the house. Complete privacy with bedroom and shared bath on a separate floor from owners. If we're home, we can arrange for you to dine with us for an additional fee and advance notice. Summers, relax on the covered front porch hammock and stare down a long dirt alley from the 50s. Or enjoy the backyard vegetable garden and patio.
In a 15-minute drive, you're in downtown Portland - Chinese Classical Gardens, Japanese Gardens at Washington Park, Portland State University, Oregon Zoo, Pioneer Courthouse Square, Pioneer Place, Powell's Bookstore, many great brew pubs and the Willamette waterfront.
Friendly, helpful hosts. If you want to socialize, we're available; if you desire complete privacy, you can have it. Depending on the time of year, we may be absent or just popping in briefly; we may be present full-time. If you want to socialize, we're available; if you desire complete privacy, you can have it. If you have a pre-planned trip or are coming to Vancouver for work, this is a great place for you to stay. When in town, hosts work from home and don't have a lot of time apart from meals but are ready to answer questions and point you in the right direction to all the beauty the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
We welcome people from everywhere and speak English, French, Spanish and some Mandarin. Sorry, no pets nor smokers. We do not have a completely child-proofed house, so we can only accommodate infant, non-ambulatory children or well-behaved kids over 4. Maximum 1-month stay.

My second stay was superb again, I have had a great time and accomodation. I have been very comfortable with the room, the house, the neighbourhood and the area of Vancouver.
Vance and Kristin are both lovely people and were super helpful, I will really miss this place!
Thank you so much!
Staying in the Bamboo room was very comfortable. I spent a few weeks here: rested and enjoyed the front porch space when the timing and weather permitted; walked the quaint neighborhood; visited with other guests and Kristin and Vance ( their children too). After moving from the Great Lakes region to start a new career opportunity, it was truly a pleasure to be nurtured by Vance and Kristin as they advised me regarding local events and activities for recreation. These hosts went above and beyond to make certain my needs were met. I highly recommend that you stay here if you enjoy good company, clean and comfortable facilities, and a great neighborhood.
Kristin and Vance were wonderful, the house was beautiful and the other guests were very nice! It was a great experience and I would do it again!
Vance and Kristin have a great place, conveniently located close to downtown Vancouver and a short hop to Portland. It's a quiet and beautiful neighborhood, close to a park and many amenities. The house is cool and welcoming, as are the hosts. I will definitely return!
Very friendly and accomodating hosts with 2 charming children! Newly remodeled large, clean room and bathroom; room has access lock. Neat and comfortable house. Great location near I-5, no problem with morning work traffic going to Portland--continuously flows. Safe, quiet neighborhood for walking to Esther Short Park, uptown antique shopping, or assorted cafe eateries. I would happily stay here again!
Kristen and Vance are amazing people and made my transition to Washington stressless. The house that I stayed in was beautiful and extremely clean. They made sure that I had everything that I needed and were very helpful with getting me oriented to the area. I would highly recommend staying with Kristen and Vance if you will be visiting the Portland/Camas/Vancouver areas.
Kristin and Vance were excellent hosts. Both of them are experts when it comes to hospitality and making people feel welcome. They also have a great knowledge of the area and can suggest great activities no matter what you are excited about. I enjoyed my stay there and now that I have relocated to the area I hope to see them around!
This is the second time that I have stayed with Kristin and Vance. They are incredibly friendly and warm, and have a wonderful home. I had a fantastic time during my stay and left with a heavy heart, feeling that I was saying goodbye to true friends!
My girlfriend and I had an awesome week staying @ Kristin and Vance's place. We stayed here - together with a close friend - early November 2012 for about a week for an intensive training from SRI University. Although we were very occupied during daytime and evenings, Kristin and Vance did everything possible to give us a warm and pleasant home to return to late in the evening or night.
They were very generous in offering to drop us of at the training venue, pickup from the train station and provided us with a great and healthy breakfast. In the sparse time we spent with them we were able to experience our very first true Halloween together with their kids (Halloween is not common in Europe) and had some interesting and pleasant conversations with Kristin and Vance.
To summarize: They made us feel at home and we will certainly return here whenever we get a chance to return to this part of the US. Thanks for being such open and great hosts, Kristin and Vance!
Words cannot convey what wonderful hosts Kristin and Vance were. I booked for three nights and ended up staying for ten! That says it all! They were incredibly kind, caring, generous, and considerate, and staying with them was a complete home away from home experience. I had two pretty major issues to deal with in my time there, and Kristin and Vance were incredibly helpful and supportive. They completely went above and beyond. Staying with Kristin and Vance was the highlight of a fantastic trip, and I have made two new wonderful friends for life!
