Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
No WiFi. No plumbing. No rush. This seasonal, off grid, one room, cabin is tucked beside a brook and wrapped in trees—a quiet space for artists, bikers, hikers, and anyone craving stillness. Access includes a short walk down stone stairs and a wooded path from a dirt road. It may not be suitable, or accessible, for all, but for the right traveler, it offers a cozy bed, a camp kitchen, solar lights, and the kind of quiet that echos deep into your bones.

The space
This cabin was made for people who wander and pay attention. For the ones who move through the world with curiosity, whether on two wheels, in muddy boots, or with a sketchbook in hand. It was built for trail riders and daydreamers, tired legs and open minds. For those who hike for the view and linger for the stillness. Who chase light, collect stories, and know the quiet magic of a good cup of coffee, a clean bed, and the sound of a brook at night.

If that sounds like you, welcome.

Foote Brook Cabin is a soft place to land. Tucked in the woods, 3 miles outside the village of Johnson, this off-grid hideaway invites you to unplug without fully roughing it.

There is no WiFi, no plumbing, and no buzzing appliances. Instead, you get a full-sized memory foam bed with fresh linens, solar and battery powered lights, firewood, and a little kitchen setup with everything you need to cook a meal. There’s clean drinking water, real dishes, a Coleman propane stove, a cooler and a composting outhouse that is tidy, private, and surprisingly pleasant.

You can walk in, pedal in, or drive in. If you are biking the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, I can meet you in town and bring you and your gear up to the cabin we will just need to coordinate that ahead of time.

Pets are welcome as long as they are well behaved and come with a human who will clean up after them and respect the property.

Johnson is just a short stroll from the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail trailhead, and the Long Trail crossing, and has everything you didn’t know you needed. A coffee shop and a tea house for whatever kind of caffeine emergency you are having. A grocery store that carries a little bit of everything. Chinese takeout. A laundromat. A restaurant for a sit-down spot for a delicious meal. Johnson Woolen Mills and Vermont Flannel for souvenirs that feel like hugs. Butternut Mountain Farm Store for some tasty VT treats. There are also 2 covered bridges, local art & artists, maple syrup, friendly neighbors, half dozen swimming holes, and a surprising number of Little Free Libraries for a town this size. I've created a guide book for guest to access with local amenities and adventures, be sure to check it out.

Guest access
Guests have access to the cabin and the cleared space around the property. The property as a whole is 1.3 acres but most of it is raw, unkempt, land that is not easily accessed. The cabin sits between a peaceful brook and a rural dirt road with a fire pit and chairs located between brook and the cabin. Guests are asked to be careful if they choose to leave the cleared pathways and common areas and to do so at their own risks.

Other things to note
I want to be upfront that the property isn’t fully accessible just yet. I’m working toward it, but for now, if you have mobility challenges, this might not be the best fit. Access to the cabin involves stepping down from the road onto a set of sturdy rock stairs, but there is currently no solid handrail in place.

Our cabin is nestled between a gentle brook and a quiet dirt road, with a friendly neighbor on one side. While it’s not deep in the wilderness, it is rural, wooded, and off the beaten path. The soothing sound of the brook and the surrounding trees create a peaceful, nature-filled setting. You may occasionally notice a car passing, but most guests find it fades into the background—especially when relaxing by the water.

Heat: The cabin is fully insulated but please note that it is a seasonal rental and it is not heated. Once the weather starts to turn the bedding will be upgraded to linens that match the weather. There are always additional blankets (wool and puffer) along with a two-person sleeping bag available in the closet. If you are considering staying with us during the early spring and/or fall season please consider bringing a set of warm clothes to have as an option to help keep the late night and early morning chill away.

Parking: One parking space is located across the road from the trailhead to the cabin. The spot is alongside the road but large enough to keep your vehicle out of the traveled lane. Photos are included in the listing for reference.

Check-in: 12–24 hours before your arrival, you’ll receive a message with full check-in instructions. A handwritten instruction notebook is available at the cabin, but please review your messages in advance and note important details (like your 4-digit key code) before arrival, as internet access is limited once you are up there.

If you’re unsure about anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out before booking. I want your stay to be comfortable and enjoyable, and I’m more than happy to answer questions so there are no surprises when you arrive.

Mom of 4, artist, Human Services professional, and collector of adventures both big and small. My cabin is a love letter to my childhood and to the magic of slowing down and being present. I live in Johnson, and most of my adventures are rooted in the rich Vermont landscape. As a host, I enjoy welcoming guests to slow down, relax, breathe deep, and reconnect with the joys and simple magic we often overlook in our busy everyday lives.
