This charming 2 bedroom cottage is located in upcountry Maui. It is on a lush, green and beautiful 8.5 acres. You feel like you are far "away from it all" but you are just two miles to shops and restaurants and 20 minutes from the airport. Private!
Private and peaceful retreat on the island of Maui. 2 bedrooms, easily accommodates four people (2 beds) We have another airbnb listing if you want both to accommodate more people.
Wireless Internet, washer and dryer, satellite TV, all the amenities on nearly four acres of lush tropical beauty. Great place for a retreat—art, writing or personal growth. 10 minutes from the beach, 5 minutes to restaurants and stores, 20 minutes to the airport. A rental car is highly recommended as these are narrow windy roads and 2 miles to the nearest bus stop.
WE HAVE NOT INCLUDED the 13.41% Hawaii State Transient Accommodation Tax which we legally have to charge. If we included it in the price on airbnb, you would have to pay the airbnb fee against that price so we add it after the time of booking. WE WILL SEND YOU A SEPARATE INVOICE for the additional fee. (Sorry!)
We are in close proximity to the Piiholo Ziplines, The Sacred Garden (with walking labyrinths, nursery, beautiful gardens), the Temple of Peace, Makawao Town shopping, Ho'okipa Beach, Baldwin Beach, Paia, and Haiku Towns.
We have a seasonal stream on the property that ranges from a beautiful dry river bed of amazing rocks to a raging stream, we have a wild coffee plantation, tropical fruit (papaya, coconuts, avocado, tangerines, banana, oranges, limes, lemons, grapefruit, lychee, likikoi (passion fruit) and guava (help yourself) and flowers—ginger, haleconia, angel's trumpet, orchids, water lily, lotus, bird of paradise...the list goes on. This property is very peaceful—with just enough rain to keep everything green and sprinkled with rainbows but enough sun to be beautiful and warm.
We have a huge friendly dog on the property as well as four cats (not inside the unit!). This is a lush, jungle environment...lots of privacy yet a safe, gated yard.
The kitchen has a full fridge, stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, and blender. There is a teak dining table for four inside and another table for four outside on the patio. There is an outdoor fireplace on the patio and a shared propane BBQ just around the corner. Beach towels, beach mats, chairs, ice chest and an umbrella are available for your use. We have a washer and dryer on the property for you to use (shared) and plenty of off road parking.
We can assist you with booking other activities—scuba and snorkeling at Molokini, helicopter, ziplines, etc. We also work with Maui's best practitioners so if you need some healing of the heart, relationship coaching, personal or spiritual growth, creativity/art exploration, an intuitive reading, acupuncture, body work, massage, private yoga or Qigong....let us know and we can arrange it for you.
Getting Married? We perform weddings....let us help you!
Guests have access to the entire property, fresh fruit (in season), wireless Internet, washer and dryer, satellite Tv.....everything you need....
We always greet our guests upon arrival and are generally immediately available if needed, but know you are here on vacation, are in and out and want your privacy. We live on the same property, but it is possible to see very little of each other....or as much of each other as needed!
This is the best kept secret on Maui! We are in the upcountry area literally straddling Makawao and Haiku....so we are dryer than Haiku, and greener than Makawao...with rainbows on a regular basis!
We are 2 miles to Makawao shops and restaurants, 5 miles to Paia, 3 miles to Haiku and 20 minutes to the airport.....all the conveniences of being away from it all without the inconveniences!
You will really need a rental car. Maui has buses but no stops closer than 2 miles to us....
We are located very close to The Sacred Garden so if you arrive during business hours you can check in there. Please call us when you are on your way so we can be sure to greet you.

Great place to stay - the property was a great change of pace from the beachfront resorts. Location is perfect for exploring upcountry. Eve was a wonderful host and quickly responded to our questions.
My husband and I stayed at Steve and Eve's cottage on Maui for our honeymoon, and it was truly one of the best decisions we made during our whole trip. The house and grounds are even more breathtaking in person than in the photographs. The property was lush and gorgeous, plus there were tangerines ripe for the picking, making this Florida girl feel very much at home. :)
Not only were the accommodations far less expensive than a resort, we enjoyed the privacy of staying in our own place. The location is ideal; we got the privacy we wanted but were still just a short drive away from everything we wanted to do. While we did make excursions to Lahaina and Kahului, we were always relieved to return to the cottage in Makawao, far away from the large congregations other tourists.
We stayed by ourselves, but the 2-bedroom setup would also be comfortable for 2 couples traveling together or a family of 3-4. We admittedly didn't do much cooking, but the kitchen was well equipped. The house has pretty much everything you could ever need (i.e. beach towels, coolers, outdoor grill, and more), so definitely take an inventory before heading to the store.
Communication with Steve was always prompt and helpful. I'm still having sweet dreams about this place. We were sad to leave. Highly recommended.
The cottage was very spacious and in a beautiful secluded area. Our host, Eve, was great and very accommodating. Let us check in early when we arrived into Maui. The villages nearby are quaint and cozy and everything you need is nearby.
Maui was the last of the three islands we visited on our trip; I chose places close to the beach on Kauai and Hawaii, and I wanted something different for Maui. The Cottage location was exactly what I wanted - very convenient to Makawao, Haiku, and Paia, but secluded and lush. Nights were very cool and breezy, perfect for sleeping. The location generally was excellent - central to just about everywhere.
The Cottage itself was comfortable (the master bed was lovely... I had to be coaxed out of it every morning.) We had our two young teens with us; one slept in the second bedroom and the other on the couch. We had plenty of blankets, pillows, towels, etc., and Eve and Steve provided additional beach towels, as well as sand chairs, etc. The washer/dryer was right outside our door, which was great. I would recommend having a flashlight or a cellphone light available for moving between the cottage and the parking area at night - if there's a porch light on the property, we never found it, and it gets VERY dark.
Eve was super helpful and friendly; she provided us with maps and helpful tips, and the cottage itself is full of guides and magazines. She made us feel very welcome both at the cottage and at the greenhouse/garden/labyrinth next door.
Our only real criticism would be of the renovation work (hammering, electric saw, etc.,) that was occurring on the property during our stay. Eve told us to let her know if it became bothersome, but we weren't necessarily comfortable speaking up about it, since the only real solution was to just make the workers stop when we were home. Afternoon naps were sort of ruled out, which isn't a huge deal, but peace and quiet was a big selling point for the property, so I feel like it deserves a mention. Once the work is completed, I'm sure it will be very quiet there.
Eve and Steve are all excellent hosts. We felt at Charming Cottage very comfortable. Everything was well organized and Eve gave us many valuable tips for our stay on Maui. The cottage is furnished with love. And the small nursery of Eve is a great experience. The dive tour to Molokini reef with Steve was a great adventure.
We would be very happy to enjoy the hospitality of Eve and Steve again when we return to Maui.

Great place to stay at. Nice property. Very comfortable. I would recommend it 100%. The hosts were kind and honest and it's everything they said it would be. There were maps to help us with planning days out. Centrally located to everything that you want to do on the Island. That's why I can't wait to go back!
Great place in Upcountry! Perfect central location - easy to get to Makawao, Paia, and down to the beaches. The property is fun to wander around and Bodhi the (big) pup is awesome!
We had a very relaxing stay at Eve and Steve's cottage. The location is fairly remote and hidden in the lush forested area of Maui yet within close driving distance of the lovely towns of Makawao and Paia.
Eve was a wonderful host and made us feel totally comfortable about disturbing her for our numerous trivial questions (sorry Eve!). Thank you for your patience and the wonderful avocados and plantains. We'll come again in fruit season! Coming from Canada we really appreciated all of the kitchen and bathroom goodies left for our use, and all the information and directions provided for us in the unit..
The cottage was just as described and suited our needs perfectly. As the weather was very dry we used the patio several times and had very little need for bug spray other than at dusk. The temperature was very pleasant and a delight to come home to after the scorching sun on the West coast. This is an ideal location from which to reach all the recommended sites on Maui as long as you have a car. We particularly enjoyed the peace and tranquility away from the tourist crowds.
This was our first time to Maui and our choice was to try and make our visit a more real and laid back experience. We are definitely not the concrete condo or resort type travelers so we did our homework and were fortunate to have found Steve and Eve's cottage available.
We arrived late at night, in the dark, to a welcoming party consisting of Eve and the infamous Bodhi, her 180 pound teddy bear, and they immediately made us feel at home. It was not until the morning that we realized what an amazing place we had found. We woke to the soothing sounds of the doves in the lush trees and the wild roosters welcoming us to the island. Bodhi came by to say good morning and took us for a stroll in this little piece of heaven. Our mornings always began with our coffee, sitting in the sun next to the babbling creek, eating fresh picked fruit, planning our day and enjoying the serenity.
One of our reasons for choosing this location was its central location and its close proximity to the towns of Paia and Makawao. We loved the quieter beaches on this side yet were a short drive from the snorkeling areas of the west and south . The volcano was close and Hana was just around the corner (625 corners actually)
This property is also home to the “Sacred Gardens” which is Eve’s labor of love. We were fortunate to be a part of the gardens first “Concert in the greenhouse”, a musical fundraiser that was one of our more memorable experiences during our stay here. There is a very positive energy here that we thrived on and will miss.
Quiet, gorgeous, laid back, serene, friendly, comfortable, welcoming.
Thanks so much Eve, Steve and Bodhi
steve and Eve are really nice people, and they have a really nice cottage with a beautyful garden all around, also they have a cute dog and the infrastructure are pretty good too. we find everything we needed in this cottage, nice tv, wifi, two big beds, washer, and nature... it was a really nice stay
