4 Mi to Dntn Half House in S.Austin

House - Private room · Normandy Street, Austin, TX 78704, United States

Perfect for extended stays, you have "your side" of the house, with one small bedroom with futon double bed, and another larger bedroom/study/sitting room with couch that folds into a twin bed, AND full bath to yourself. Shared kitchen, living room, dining room. Only four miles to downtown.

The Space

You basically have one side of my house, and for privacy all you need to do is close off the hallway door. This is the perfect set up for someone who is in town for business or study, who wants value but doesn't want to crash at one of those extended stay hotels. We do have neighbors next door who will sometimes throw the weekend Pachanga on the Patio, and that can get a little loud - so be advised. They are great neighbors, and keep an eye on things for me (and you) security-wise. This is one of those funky old Austin neighborhoods you've heard about where you paint your house whatever damn color you want, hang out with your family and friends on hot evenings in the front yard, and no one calls the police because someone just cranked up a corrido by Los Tigres Del Norte at the party. It's NOT an every weekend kind of thing, but just letting you know up front this is a possibility - and if you're here on the weekend and a super light sleeper, or allergic to animals (see note below) this probably isn't the place for you. On the other hand, if you're going to be up late on the weekend, or don't mind running the box fan to supply white noise, it won't be an issue.

Guest Access

You have essentially two bedrooms, a private bath, and will share the living room, dining room, and kitchen with me. And, if you give me a heads up and a little notice, I'll even do some laundry for you.

Interaction with Guests

I'll have as much or little interaction with you as you desire. Your privacy is very respected. Of course, expect to see me around the living room, dining room, and kitchen because hey, this is my home, too. :)

Other Things to Note

There is a twin-size air mattress, if you have a fourth person that wants to come along and doesn't mind sleeping on, well, an air mattress.

  • Jackie is the embodiment of Austin (not the"Keep Austin Weird"part). She is thoughtful, laid back and generous. As if that weren't enough, she recycles!
Jackie accommodated our changing schedule which we appreciated. Britt was running the Cap 10k and Jackie was headed to the grocery store. She specifically asked him if he needed to "carb up" and placed a foam roller in the room for stretching. The bed was VERY comfortable and our stay was enjoyable and relaxing. So much so, that I got a book I had commenced reading at her home so I could finish it. Jackie provided healthful snacks, great coffee, transportation options and dining suggestions. She was a great host! We definitely recommend staying here and hope to do so again.

  • I had a terrific stay with Jackie during SXSW. She went out of her way to make me feel welcome and to help me familiarise myself with Austin, how to get about and where to eat - really helpful during a very busy time in the city. It was lovely accommodation, Jackie was a great host. I would highly recommend and hope to make a return again during SXSW or maybe some other time in the future.

  • Jackie was a wonderful and accommodating host during a 10 day stay in Austin. The garage apartment is true delight- great bathroom and kitchen, happy bright colors and a super duper comfortable king-size bed make this place a real winner. I'd definitely stay there again. And the home is very comfortable and the half-house with it's own bathroom offers lots of privacy and piece and quiet. The house has a great location, too, right off of S. 1st St. and quick drive to downtown, the E. 6th St area and especially Torchy's Taco's on S. 1st.- breakfast (lunch and dinner) tacos there are a must). If you need suggestions on how to get around or where to go, Jackie the host is a fount of knowledge and happy to share it.

  • Jackie was like a mom :)
She make sure you got everything, give you infos if you need.
Made some good healthy juice.. clean my clothes. Cant ask more..

The spot is quiet, relax, you got your privacy with a door separate house in the middle, your own bathroom, wi-fi..
Excellent spot if you need 1-2 single room with a friend for a good price. I have nothing negative to say.. that was perfect for my stay in ATX.

    Thanks Jackie !!

  • Jackie was the epitome of Southern hospitality and was even kind enough to drop me off at the airport .The 101 bus was about three minutes from the house so travelling around Austin without a car was very easy .This was my first experience with Airbnb and I couldn't have asked for a better one .

  • I'd give 10 stars if I can. She's the perfect host!

  • Jackie's place is an absolutely fantastic option in Austin. It really is "half a house"! i.e. a bedroom, plus a study with couch and desk looking out over the backyard, plus your own bathroom. So there's an enormous amount of space that is entirely your own. Plus then the fully-equipped kitchen shared with Jackie.

It's also in a great location if you are without a car, as I was. There is a bus stop just on the corner of the street, with regular buses in to downtown Austin.

Jackie is a fantastic host who goes well out of her way to be extraordinarily helpful. In my case this included picking me up from the airport, driving me on a tour of the city, lots of advice about places to visit - and to eat! - and how to get around, plus offering to do my laundry.

I look forward to visiting Austin again in future and being able to stay here again!
