Hi there, I've owned this apartment since 2007 and enjoy hosting guests who want to enjoy the sights of Rio and have a little oasis of their own there. I enjoy having an apartment there so I can make a cuppa for myself (I'm English, so there's always got to be tea!), and open a bottle of wine as I'm getting ready to hit the bars of Ipanema. The location is hard to beat, cross the road and you're at Copacabana Beach. The shower is lush and there's a very big double bed to recover from all the fun in.
Everytime I visit myself I find new places so do keep me posted about the places you discover while you're in town. Rio's a vibrant and beautiful City and I'm sure you'll fall in love with it as I have. Don't miss Friday night out in Lapa - and recovery and people watching on Ipanema Beach for the rest of the weekend.
High season is Dec-March when prices are higher, prices lower rest of the year, apart from New Year and Carnival which have a set price package for 10 days.
I know this will be a great base for your stay in Rio, and I have very happy guests - which makes me happy. Thank you for your interest.
Any questions then please drop me a line. Thanks.
The location is pretty much perfect - and neighbourhood is fantastic, a short hop across the road to Copacabana Beach and a short and easy direct walk to Ipanema for the hippy market, beach and Metro, plus lots of great shops, supermarkets, restaurants, banks and bars within seconds of leaving the front door.
If you look at the reviews for Copacabana Rio Hotel on the web (ignore the room reviews!) but the hotel is located next door to my apartment - so their reviews all give an idea of how great the location is. It's also next door but one to the Police station!
I look forward to hosting you there.
Plenty of taxis, mini-buses, buses, and the Metro - can whizz you about the city - but it's a great location as so much is within easy walking distance especially Copacabana Beach :)
Keys are available for the property during safe transport hours for check-in between 6am and 10pm. Outside of these hours is possible by special arrangement, which means a 70Rs (approx $30US) transport charge by the local key holder will be payable locally for their transport to bring the keys on check in.
This is PRIVATE apartment for 2 people, facilities are all private for guests, this is not a shared space. Bathroom with hot shower, kitchen area with 2 gas rings, refrigerator and microwave, lounge area with sofa, large double bed, wardrobes, air-con, balcony and flat screen TV and DVD player. Towels and bed-linen will be provided at the start of your stay.
Interaction with Guests
There is a local management company who are on hand 24 hours a day for any emergencies and concerns or questions. From re-booting the wifi to the best surfing spots - they'll know the answer, along with helping out with any problems that you may have (although hopefully there will be none!). They have been managing the apartment since 2008. I am always on hand to help you with any questions or concerns, I don't live in Rio de Janeiro however, so we interact on these messages. If there is anything you need during your stay, please let me know or if it's an urgent problem then the local office - or the local Police station, of course, which is handily located next to the apartment block!
Copacabana is an iconic neighbourhood, Rio's vibrant tourist area and a world class beach. I love this apartment's location as it's also at the Ipanema-end of Copacabana Beach so a simple and short walk to Ipanema Beach which has a different vibe to Copacabana so you can easily explore both. There is also a fantastic Sunday hippy market in General Osorio Square which is a 7-8 minute walk from the apartment, this is also the location of the local Metro station. The direct area around the apartment is very well served with bars, restaurants, shops and banks - and you can walk to Copacabana beach in two minutes. It's a well lit and busy area by night, and very close to a hotel so there's no shortage of taxi cabs should you want one. You can walk to Copacabana Beach and grab a Caipirinha to drink (the classic local drink) or a fresh coconut water and watch the waves crash onto the beach and the world walk by - it's magical! ENJOY!!
The Metro station at General Osorio Square is located within a ten minute walk, there are numerous buses along the street and also along the beach, and no shortage of taxi cabs available too.
Other Things to Note
Here's what to expect of Rio de Janeiro, to answer the questions I have been asked by previous guests: It's a fantastic, vibrant and beautiful City that I have never experienced problems in even when travelling alone, however, please use your common sense to protect your valuables as there is poverty in Rio as there is in any third world country. Do not go onto the beaches after dark. Things don't necessarily run as smoothly in Brazil as they do in Beverly Hills, from time to time the internet networks go down, or ATMs that usually work suddenly don't take your card - it just happens and very quickly these things are resolve fairly swiftly by themselves but you do need a little patience from time to time! There is a Police Station located right by the apartment so it's as secure a location as I can imagine, on a well lit street with a 24 hour security guard controlling the building. It is a City Centre apartment, so please don't come expecting it to be a remote and peaceful paradise beach location - the beaches ARE paradise, but this is a South American City so don't let that surprise you :) The people are incredibly friendly, and welcoming. If you don't speak any Portuguese it would be a good idea to have a few basic phrases up your sleeve as English is not widely spoken, you will make yourself understood but it's worth having a few basics to communicate. This is a full private apartment that you have to yourself, so no one will come and make you breakfast in the apartment (but there are plenty of choices straight out the front door if you don't want to cook!) and you have the choice of self catering when you want to, and a full refrigerator.
Please absolutely no smoking inside the property. Also please remember to switch off the A/C when you're not in the apartment, it will cool down in ten minutes when you switch it on upon return, thanks. Other than that - relax and enjoy your vacation - that's the rule!!
Saludos!
Host was very friendly and responded via email quickly to every question/concern we had. Apartment literally located one block from Copacabana beach, close to Ipanema, perfect location for us and exactly what we were looking for in terms of location.
However we were not happy with condition of room.
-Issues getting our keys
-Bed extremely blood stained
-Safety issues with balcony door not locking
-Constant banging/running/wrestling noises from apartment upstairs LITERALLY all day
AC was fixed, Flooding was fixed but thats about it.
To be fair, the property is managed by a local company in Rio. We understand the standards are different than where we live however some things were really bad. They gave us new bed sheets to lie on but we were still uncomfortable in the bed. After complaining about back door not locking and the possible safety concerns, we did not hear anything back at all. Problem was not resolved and we felt unsafe.
Loved the location, loved Brazil however we would not recommend this unit.
Hi Robert, I'm sorry to hear you were not happy and I know you had a problem with a blocked drain from heavy rains upon arrival which we fixed as soon as possible. along with the AC which also seemed to have taken on board some moisture from the heavy downpours. So I understood that all of your concerns regarding the apartment had been resolved. It is very unfortunate that you had to deal with them and things do happen unfortunately from time to time. You mentioned that you did not like the bed and we have taken that feedback on board and ordered a brand new mattress for the apartment for future guests. Unfortunately as you will know, your trip was during Carnival, many places were closed and technicians were harder than usual to find - however, did you have any actual safety issues or was this just about your own perception? As the apartment is in a very safe location, there is a 24 hour doorman and the balcony can't be accessed anyway. The technician has been called to deal with the locking issue you reported, of course. As for the apartment upstairs - that is well outside my control I'm afraid, and many of the owners - like me - rent out their apartments during the busy Carnival time and Rio is a bustling busy noisy City - you'll see that I always recommend to guests to travel with ear-plugs or to buy some locally - as in ANY apartment building you can get the Brazilian approach to volume control. I am disappointed that you felt the need to leave such a negative review, given that we communicated many times by message and you gave me the impression that you were happy and relaxed there - especially after the one-off blockage had been rectified. As you say - it's in a fantastic location and the problems you reported were fixed. I have taken up your suggestions with the property managers, who to be fair have managed the property for 7 years so are familiar with it. And as soon as you reported a problem with the bed I sent someone to check it out and resolve your concern as soon as humanly possibly during a Carnival. I hope you had a great trip, nonetheless, and safe onward journey.
Every question you have, Caroline will answer immediately. She is very kind.
About the location:
Near the beach (one block from Copacabana and about 3 from Ipanema). It is also very near (about 3 blocks) from the subway. You can take the subway if you want to go to the "Centro" in less than 20 minutes. In the Centro you can find the Theatre, museums, etc.
It's also a very secure place. Down the apartment there is a Police station and a hotel.
There are a lot of very good restaurants near the apartment.
About the apartment:
It's ideal for a couple. The bed is a little bit old, but is ok. About a 6 out of 10.
The bathroom is new and comfortable. The kitchen have a microwave, a freezer and two hornallas. But it doesn't have a owen, so you won't be able to make pizzas, for example.
The air conditioner is a little bit noisy but is ok.
And the balcony have an ugly view, but you can close the curtains and it will be ok.
Problems we had:
When we arrived there was a lot of water under the bed. The night before we arrived rained a lot and the water entered into the department, from the window.
But rain won't be a problem if you clean the drainage that is in the balcony.
When we left the apartment, the cleaner arrived at 9h. So we have to leave 3 hours before the time we accorded. Caroline apologize for that. It was not her fault.
It is a nice, tidy, and fair (according to the price) departament.
Hi Alejandro, thank you for your feedback which I have taken on board. We have had the drain cleared as it had become a little blocked from the rains and this week I am purchasing a new mattress to replace the bed, and new pillows as that is very important. Thank you for letting me know. (I'm so sorry about the cleaners. You are too nice, I'd have sent them away!).
We had a wonderful experience, this place was indeed perfect! it is exactly as it is described. 1 block from the beach, the grocery store and bus stops. It is a great place to stay when in Rio! Caroline was so great to work with and made this such a easy process.
I would highly recommend staying here!! We will definitely return!
Great location, just a couple of minutes walk to Copacabana beach and about 10-15 minutes to Ipanema beach. There are supermarkets, restaurants and bars nearby and easy access to public transport.
The flat could do with some renovation work and there were a few small faulty / broken things.
Caroline was really accessible and responded quickly. We notified her about a problem with the bathroom lights and she sent a technician to fix it the next day, which was really helpful.
We thought the flat could be cleaner than it was and could do with a bit more kitchenware, even just a couple more glasses ;)
The A/C really helped to cope with the warmth but was very noisy. Not as noisy as the next door neighbours though. At times, it seemed we were part of their family, really! Probably because their kitchen is opposite the apartment's bathroom.
I appreciate this is not Caroline's fault, but the most difficult thing for us was the noise.
The building has 24h security, which we liked. The key collection is managed by an agency based a few blocks away, provinding some extra flexibility.
For all of those that can't disconnect even when just a few blocks away from the beach, the wi-fi was great, even for streaming.
From London, UK. Now living in Los Angeles, CA.
I'm a chatty old thing who loves nothing more than a bottle of wine and a giggle with friends, exploring new places and revisiting old favourites. I work in the media. I love sunshine, music, comedy and the news. I know, the news. I can people watch for hours and sometimes much as I love to chat - like to be quiet and watch the world go by.
I'm quite into juicing, green juices rather than fruit ones I mean. I like chic restaurants as much as I like a picnic on the beach. I like to go for a run (although recovering from a ski accident - I don't like to ski anymore - so running has been off the agenda a little) and doing hot yoga. My favourite places apart from London are Los Angeles, Nashville, Koh Samui, Rio De Janeiro, Whitstable, Istanbul...I could go on...but that's enough for now. Most of all I love sharing these places with family and friends. I try to keep my priorities in the right order, when I'm juggling life's plates. I love my job and work hard. But most of all I really like it when my lovely husband Mark makes me a cup of tea - oh and I make awesome scrambled eggs, as good as any 5* hotel's breakfast.
I'm tidy and organised and have two awesome cats and too many pairs of shoes.
