The Space

Beautiful "dolly size" roof top studio with twin beds (that can be joined), bathroom and equipped kitchen. Attached sunny roof terrace with dining space .

Located inside Yatachhen house , one of the first successful conservation project of Newari architecture.

The house has been entirely renovated/ rebuilt 10 years ago with modern anti seismic method and the addition of concrete belts to assure extreme security in case of earthquake. It has paid off as the house didn't suffer of a single crack/ damage during the last earthquake that hit nepal in April 2015. It literally means "living in Harmony"... give it a try!

Interaction with Guests

We are always happy to help out our guests with anything they may need and have a nice chat with them.
Our guests can conveniently find us every morning (unless on saturdays) in our Office located in the ground floor of Yatachhen House.

The Neighborhood

In April 25th, 2015 Nepal has been hit by a strong earthquake. It has caused great damages, especially in rural areas. Nevertheless, when you listen to the news, Kathmandu and Patan have been flattened; This is pure lie/ mass media greed for sensationalism ; most of the city is intact and so many wonderful things remains to be discovered and visited.

In Patan, we deplore the loss of a couples of very old houses, 2 temples (out of 8) in Durbar Square, and our beautiful Radna Krishna temple on Swotha Square. But all the others beautiful monuments and the magic atmosphere of the Old Patan are still there and proud! Kumbeshware temple, the Golden Temple, Nagbahal, Balkumari temple, most of Durbar Square, the Patan museum and its amazing garden, Mahaboudha and its 1000 boudhas... All of that and much more are waiting for you!

And still, you can't find more authentic and traditional neighbourhood; Once you have discover the old Patan, you will never want to stay in Thamel again!

When staying in this part of town you are surrounded by Hindu temples, Buddhist stupas, monasteries , local food spots and hidden courtyards with secret paths- None of that has disappeared from the earthquake ;-) The vibrant local life of the Newars (the original ethnic group of the Kathmandu Valley) guarantees you a very rich cultural experience.

Getting Around

To resume :
• Situated in the heart of Patan historical city center (Swotha Square)
• Quietly nested inside a courtyard (no noise from the road!)
• Less than 100m away from Durbar Square and the Golden Temple
• 500m away from Patan Doka (Patan’s gate)
• 20 min walk away from U.N. House, Sanepa area, Kupondole area
• 15 min ride to Thamel
• 20 min ride to the International Airport

Taxi can be found in Durbar Square and Patan Dhoka at all time of the day and night.

There are two big public bus stations around (10 min walk away from us): Lagankel and Patan Doka bus parks.
From there you can go down to Kathmandu Ratna Park and to many places and villages around.

As a general fact, we discourage our guests to be systematically brought back by taxi or car until our front door (beside the first day of course!). The old Patan is a very fragile area and cannot handle too much traffic and pollution.
Ask the taxi to drop you in Mangal Bazar or in Patan Doka and have a walk in all those beautiful small alleys and courtyards to reach our house, it is much healthier and enjoyable for all ;-)

Other Things to Note

Jimi and Yuri are our courtyard dogs. They are adorable creatures, very kind and friendly. If ever they welcome you with a little bark, don't be afraid, it is just to greet you ;-)

Gas, water and electricity are very precious ressources here in Nepal, please use them very conscientiously.
Small problems related to those ressources can always happen, we are very reactive to fix things once informed but you need to be aware that Nepal is a country where you have to be adaptable ;-)

Update for November 2015 onwards: Please note that because of the absolute shortage of gas in Nepal, it is totally impossible to be provided with gas heater in your accommodation until the blockage ends.
The situation is quite dramatic and gas needs to be kept for cooking purpose (which we are already lucky to have as most people now cook with fire wood). Thanks for your understanding, we hope the situation will be solved soon! Meanwhile, you will find a hot water bottle in each room.
