The Oak Room, on the second floor of this 3 story townhouse, boasts oak woodwork and furnishings and a comfortable queen bed. Come enjoy the rest of our historic home in West Park neighborhood of Allentown, PA.
This 1905 turn of the century town house is an amazing getaway in the midst of city life. The double front parlors have original oak and chestnut woodwork. The front room has a gas fireplace, surrounded by imported German tiles, and the grand piano is available for those who play. The dining room has a sawn oak dining set and reading corner. The house is all original architecture, except for updated stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops in the kitchen and marble counter tops in the 2nd floor full bathroom.
The light-filled bedrooms are furnished with desk, excellent mattresses, comfortable chairs and quilts. The second floor front parlor is a sitting, reading and TV room with a large stained glass window.
The front porch welcomes you with wicker furnishings. The bird’s nest porch off the second floor back hallway is a great place to read and relax. The courtyard has a pond and center fountain, as well as grill and patio tables. Just off the kitchen is a light filled sun room with a gas fireplace and a comfortable chair for resting and reading.
There are 1-1/2 shared bathrooms, and we live in the house full time.
The beautiful West Park and arboretum is only a block away. The park's band shell hosts concerts from spring to fall. Allentown is known as Band City USA and has the oldest existing band in the USA. Allentown is also experiencing a recent "renaissance," as the downtown improvement district embarks on an ambitious construction plan, including a hockey arena, hotels, offices and restaurants.
This house was on the West Park Civic Association's Christmas House Tour in 2009, and, most recently, in June 2013. There are many architecturally unique homes and mansions in the neighborhood. We are within easy access to all major Lehigh Valley attractions. If you like history, comfort and a unique and refined stay, choose this historic home.
We can provide information and, sometimes, discount coupons, to local attractions and will gladly recommend our favorite ethnic restaurants, help with tour suggestions, and chat about our life in the city.
This was my 2nd time staying at Tom and Carolyn's beautiful home, and once I again I felt welcomed and utterly comfortable there. They made it easy for me to come and go and had yummy breakfast offerings, including gluten-free treats. I highly recommend this as a great place to stay while in Allentown. .
Carolyn and Tom are a lovely couple and have a charming house. Everything is tastefully decorated to reflect the historic nature of the house. Our room was very comfortable and the bed was especially good. We enjoyed our time in Allentown and thoroughly recommend a stay in this beautiful house.
