About This Listing
Rhythm n Melody, Style and Charm. The GG Botel will rock you to sleep or sleep while you rock. Try out this cozy cabin of the sea. This one-of -a-kind arthouse space is in the works to be THE cool digs of Seattle. Enjoy it soon!
Go ahead, kick it on the couch. Rest those tired dogs. Or put on sheets and a blanket as this is also the lower bunk.
The GG is a very unique work in progress. The idea is to have all the details of the boat crafted by local artists. So the bowls and cups are all one of a kinds by a local artist. As are the cushions, the lamps, wood work, and inside artwork. This is a work in progress hence the very affordable price. Get it while the gettins good.
The GG is yours for the time. Kayaks can be rented or we can take out the Grey Ghost on an adventure.
(Clean sheets, pillows, and towels are always included.)
Interaction with Guests
You get the entire boat. I show you the 'ropes' and its yours. (sorry not yours like you get to motor away tho) If you need anything I'm about 20 minutes away. Otherwise I'm out of your hair. That is unless you want to go out for a cruise on the boat.
Ballard is FANTASTIC! It has the best of all worlds. Small town ease, city choices. I travel clear across the city for Ballards Thai food, and bars.
Its easy to downtown, by bus or car or bike. Freemont, the center of the universe, is just down the road. Great Thai food, shops and bars. (Plus Theo's chocolate factory. I suggest the tour.)
Other Things to Note
Yes the GG is a great and novel place to hunker down for the evening but it really shines as a useable boat! If you'd like to go out swimming in lake Washington, or sunset cruise in lake Union, (fantastic views of downtown and Seattle's thick houseboat communities) or go out through the locks and into the Puget Sound, lets go! Over night trips to local Islands. Crabbing, seaweed gathering, possible whale and porpoise spotting. The Pacific North West is famous for its natural beauty and no better vantage can be had than from the water. Come on, Let's Wonderful!
Please have fun! Enjoy the views, the water, the birds, the boat. Please keep it off the dock and on the boat as others do live on their boats. Nothing goes into the water. Wood boat on wood dock with other wood boats tied to wood dock does not a smokers paradise make.
The breakfast nook transforms into the "master suite". The table folds down, the cushions fill in, add the memory foam topper, sheets and comforter, and you have the recipe for a VERY cozy sleep!
Everything about our stay on the Grey Ghost was fantastic. The pictures are accurate. Make no doubt about it, it is a quirky place to stay...but for the 3 nights my daughter and I were aboard, it worked to make our Seattle adventure wonderful. Do take advantage of a boat trip while aboard. We went through the locks and it was spectacular. Karl and Jeff are knowledgeable and very easy-going. An easy walk to Ballard Ave brings you to an area filled with great bars, shops and restaurants...so fun! We would return in a second.
The houseboat was perfect - totally adorable, and with a very comfy bed. It was delightful to be right on the water! We arrived very late, and Jeff had everything ship-shape and easy instructions for us to roll into bed. We loved staying there!
I cant change the price once its set or add any extra charges. It all goes thru Airbnb. Airbnb adds their fee on top of "my price" and I also get charged by airbnb.
Lesson here, read the fine print!
They constantly change the website, but the last time I stayed in NY (last November) in an airbnb flat, I got to see the total with their fees and the cleaning fee before I pushed the accept button. Hope that hasn't changed.

The houseboat was an amazing experience! Truly unique and totally homey.
Fantastic quirky space and everything we hoped and expected. We had an evening cruise around Lake union which was really worth doing. Great location if your interested in accessing down town and the laid back belmont and Freemont areas. Quiet, cosy and the most comfortable bed ever.
My daughter and I had a fun weekend on the Grey Ghost, which incidentally is in the process of a paint job and she is much more colorful than her original grey. It made for a good home base for exploring all the neighborhoods of Seattle. We were comfy and cozy on the boat. There were a couple snug beds with nice bedding, plenty of towels and a little fireplace style heater that kept us toasty at night. The artwork is quirky and fun and the handmade dishes are absolutely adorable. At the last minute Jeff had an emergency and was unable to meet us to give us the run down of all things particular to boat life but he left us detailed instructions on the boat and we encountered no problems. We even conquered the intricacies of a marine toilet easily with his detailed instructions. He made sure I had his cell number in case we had any questions. If you're looking for luxury, this accommodation is not for you- there's no spa in the marina, no wi-fi on the boat, no snooty neighbors that might critique your yachting attire. But all the necessities for relaxing and recharging are there- a small fridge and stove for snacks and cocktails, art supplies if you're inclined to create and lots of peace and quiet. The boat is no longer docked on the lake but at Fisherman's Terminal which is a working marina of commercial fishing vessels and it's pretty quiet at night. It's not far from the Ballard neighborhood which is walk-able in about 20 minutes. The parking is free and the restaurant there gets fish right off the boats. Let's Wonderful is not your run-of-the-mill bed and breakfast but it is wonderful.
Look, for a certain kind of person, once you know that the possibility exists of renting an art-boat in Seattle and sleeping in it and riding around Lake Union with your friends on it, you are simply not going to be satisfied with other, landlocked accommodations. Fortunately, the GG more than lived up to my very high expectations - quiet, romantic, cozy (neither damp nor cold, my friends), delightfully shipshape ( so many tiny drawers! a table that turns into a bed!)...
Jeff is a fantastic host - meeting up with him to get keys and such was a breeze, and as mentioned above, he took us and some Seattle-area friends for a sunset cruise around Lake Union that was the highlight of the trip.
As for the location - there's not much in the immediate vicinity of the boat, although there is a little grocery/coffee shop in Fishermen's Terminal that is excellent for breakfast coffee, pastry, last-minute bottles of prosecco, etc. And Ballard, and all its amazing restaurants and bars, is just a short walk across the Ballard Bridge. But if what you want is a full immersion in Seattle's misty fish-industrial aesthetic (and you do want that), dude, where else are you going to stay but on this boat?

About the Host, Jeff
I'm here, doin what I do best! Makin it up as I go along. I'm an artists, maker and fixer. I have done lots of traveling and used airbnb a number of times. (This feels a bit like a dating questionnaire.)
As for the boat, I know how different it is from land dwellings. I will meet guests and give them the rundown on how it all works. I live on my boat sometimes, elsewhere other times. I really enjoy boats and the boat life. Its such a unique experience and privilege to live on the water!
