I Love This Neighborhood! It is a eclectic mix of families & SOU students, homeowners & renters, newborns to elders & all ages in between. Across the street is one of the Best Parks in town that has a basketball court, a sand volleyball pit, swings, slides, & a great water park area. With it's large open spaces people fly kites, play Frisbee & even practice fly fishing. This park brings together the whole neighborhood with people of all ages and their pets. The Police station & City Hall is around the corner. On Tuesdays stroll 2 blocks (on the bike path)to the Crafter & Growers Market for fresh produce, food booths, hand crafted items & entertainers A block past that is Hunter Park which has a seasonal public pool. "Science Works" hands on Museum is 4 blks over. This neighborhood has easy access to all that the Ashland has to offer, weather it's doing city things in town or driving a few miles south of town to horse riding stables or go to the mountains or Immigrant Lake & water slide park. Or just stay home comfortably looking out to the distant mountains past the park.
It is a level 6/10 of a mile to downtown Ashland so walking could be a good option. Public Transportation is 3 blocks away Which goes to the South end of town & North to Medford to the main station then change to another local bus to the Airport or other local areas or catch the Greyhound Bus in Medford for longer distances. There is also a couple of Cab options like "Yell O Cab" Co. If you travel by train & get off at Kalamath Falls, there is a Transport Bus to the Ashland Safeway which is about 1/2 mi from the Cottage. Once here The Bike Path is a block away..If you take it Left you go through the Historic Railroad District towards the Food Co-Op. HAVE A GREAT TIME!
Ariel is a great host and the place had all the amenities. It is right across from a beautiful park with basketball courts (balls in garage) and close to a great cafe 1 block East and and a great sandwich shop and Mexican 2 blocks to the South. It is walkable to the plays and downtown which are about 1/2 mile away, although towards the end of the weekend we were driving (plenty of downtown parking).
The only upgrade my friends and I would have enjoyed was better mattresses. There are two queen beds, two singles (one in a bedroom and one foldable in the closet), and a pull-out sofa, none of which was comfortable (one of our party sleeping a queen awoke with a sore back, the sofa bed had a definite pull towards the middle, and I was hearing springs move as I slept in the bedroom single).
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this home. It was clean, well stocked with all we needed (cooking supplies, dishware, the extra blankets I asked for, etc.) The park across the street is nice and there are several lovely walks to take in this conveniently located neighborhood. Living next door, Ariel was a perfect hostess, making sure we had what we needed and felt free to ask for things, or to be left alone.
The rental was as we had both expected and hoped from the original communication with Ariel. It was within a twenty-minute walk to the theatre for our group and would be a short drive for people less enthused about the walk or less eager to be in the sun in the middle of summer. There were more than enough beds, between the two bedrooms and the fold-out bed in the living room, and Ariel was very involved with us throughout our stay. A great stay, I'm glad we found it for our trip this year!
Kat & Company were Great guest's who were friendly & engaged in brief conversations occasionally. They stayed quite busy in town & while away were very conscience of the utilities & kept lights off & the air conditioner set so as not to run continually. They cooked at home & all items used were perfectly cleaned. They left the home in perfect condition. I recommend Kat as a Wonderful Renter.
Ariel is a wonderful host. When we asked to add an additional night (on the day of) she responded quickly to make it happen. The space is a great spot for two guys travelling/working with local clients. The home is well located for walking to every thing in the center of Ashland.
Felt very welcome. Ariel met us and showed us all the things to do for door lock, extra towels, heat, wi-fi, etc., etc. House very clean and comfortable. No problems. Park across the street - kite flying going on one day. Will recommend to friends.
Everything here was great. Ariel was very flexible as our arrival time changed through out the day. The place was very cozy-perfect for our family of 4 plus my mom to feel comfortable with good space in the living room to all hang out. The location could not be better for families with kids and is still super close to town-theater, shops, etc.
Ariel was also very helpful when we had a medical emergency while we were up there. We will be back next time we are in town.
This is a clean, functional, comfortable home. It's a duplex setup, with the owner living in the other half of the house. A garage separates the living quarters, so at no point was noise from the other half of the house an issue. With a capacity for sleeping 8, across the street from a large park with a playground, and only a couple of blocks from the ScienceWorks Hands On Museum (for children), it struck me as an ideal place for a family with children. With an immaculate dog kennel attached, it seems even more family friendly. Ariel makes the garage available for bikes and recreational gear, a nice benefit that allows safe storage for recreational gear. If coming with a family, be aware of the somewhat unusual pricing structure which adds $10/night for each person after the FIRST occupant. This rapidly raises the base rate.
I also liked the fact that this home is within a hundred yards of a paved bike path that I used both for biking and running, nice to be able to access such a feature by walking out the front door. I'm a cyclist, and found that the somewhat busy E. Main St. that borders the property offers excellent access to some wonderful rides, some of which have been used by Cycle Oregon in past years. E. Main does have a good bike lane.
It's about a 15 minute walk at average pace to the south end of town, about 20 minutes to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival theatres.
Ariel is dedicated to making one's stay a good one, and has plenty of information about places to eat, things to see and do, and Ashland happenings in general.
About the Host, Ariel
Greetings my name is Ariel. I have lived in a variety of areas, mostly on the west coast and then settled in Beautiful Ashland in 1987. I began my career in the LA area as a Vegetarian/Vegan Cook in the early 70's at 'Our Contribution Restaurant' then opened the 'Falafel Factory' next door. Eventually I developed and ran a Vegetarian/Vegan Deli in a natural food store, as well as doing Catering. Wanting to tailor my work around my children's schedule I started a Home Cleaning business & often cook for my clients. Now, I am so Very Happy to host our Ashland Visitors in CC's City Cottage. *WELCOME*
