Eagles Rock Cottage is a lovely converted cottage overlooking the picturesque Glenade valley in north Leitrim. The cottage is situated on Truskmore (Trosc Mór) in the Dartry Mountain range. It is the perfect location for those looking for a quiet get away from it all.
The village of Kinlough is 10 minutes by car and the coast is reachable in 15minutes. The towns of Donegal, Sligo and Enniskillen are within easy reach (30min, 25mins and 1 hr respectively), so exploration of Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim and Fermanagh is all possible.
The cottage sits on over an acre of land and has spectacular views down the valley and back up the mountain. It has been renovated and extended recently to modern standards to provide added levels of comfort in this beautiful and very peaceful setting.
There is a large kitchen, dining room and living room that takes up all of the original cottage. This room has the original stone fireplace which now contains a wood burning stove. In addition to this there is a utility room, a bathroom and two double bedrooms. One bedroom is normal size room with a double bed. The main bedroom is very large and has an en-suite shower, sink and toilet, there is also room for a cot bed in this room.
The cottage is heated primarily by an energy efficient condenser oil burner. The system is timed but can occasionally be boosted though we ask that our guests make fair use of the oil supplies given the price of oil and its environmental impact.
There is a large wood burning stove in the living and dining room. This burns logs and turf very well. A small supply of logs and/or turf will be available for every visitor. Additional logs can be purchase in the Spar in Kinlough.
Outside there is a bench, table and chairs so that our visitors can enjoy the spectacular valley views with a cup of al fresco coffee. There is ample space for parking and for strolling.
The cottage contains a fridge, an electric oven, a gas hob, a microwave, a washing machine, a tumble dryer, a dish washer, a vacuum, an iron,a hair dryer, a tv, a dvd player, an espresso machine, various lamps, two shaver socket lights, an fm/mw radio.
We harvest rainwater from the cottage roof. The water is then filtered twice and uv sterilised. The result is beautifully clean clear water. It is ph neutral and free of chlorine and other damaging chemicals. we ask our guests not to pour anything down the guttering drains which may effect water quality.
The is a good selection of books at the cottage. We would ask our guests to avail of these but to leave what they find.
Interaction with Guests
We are available by phone. Neighbours in the vicinity of the cottage can act on our behalf if need be.
The location of Eagles Rock Cottage is perfect for any number of outdoor activities. It is situated 300m from the start of the Eagles Rock trail, a trail that takes the walker onto Trusc mor for fabulous views of Glenade and Donegal Bay. It is the perfect location for:
Hillwalking - through the Darty mountains
Cycling - through the quiet country roads
Fishing - course fishing in Glenade Lake and Salmon and Trout by license in the Drowse
Surfing - at Bundoran off the beach, or off 'The Peak'
Nature Photography and Painting- around the cottage and general Glenade area
Of course if you just want to get away from it all there is a well stocked library of books for quiet hours of reading by the wood stove.
Other Things to Note
Children are of course welcome and we can supply a cot if necessary. We would warn parents that the terrain around the cottage can be dangerous, there are streams, rocks, ditches, fallen trees, bog holes and so on in the vicinity. This will be great for children of a certain age but toddlers and small children (such as our own) should probably be kept on a length of rope...or under close supervision, whichever is most convenient!
Small breed dogs are welcome. We cannot accommodate larger dogs or more than one dog at a time because the area is full of sheep that often wander on to the property. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs and any damage that a dog might cause. Dogs should not to be left in the cottage unattended. Mess or damage caused by a dog may result in the loss of the damage deposit (to date this has never happened).
This cottage is well loved and we use it regularly with our young family. Hence we expect that you respect that and leave the cottage as you found it.
There is strictly no smoking allowed in the cottage.
We stayed in Christine and Simons cottage for a week over the easter holidays and really had a great time. The weather couldn't be worst but the house was a great base for us with a one year old!the cottage is just fantastic for hikes and walks when the weather is good!
Christine and Simone where really nice hosts and very easy to get in touch with!
Thank you again for all your caring!!
We spent a lovely few days in Eagles Rock Cottage. The setting is amazing right at the foot of the mountain with fantastic views across the valley. The cottage itself is very tastefully decorated with beautiful kitchen and a warm wood burning stove in the living room.
We had a lovely time - the cottage was very spacious with a well equipped kitchen. The views were stunning, and on a clear night the stars are incredible. Christine was very helpful, and responded promptly with all our queries, both before and during our stay.
We had a great stay at Eagles Rock. Our only problem was that it was too short!
The cottage was beautiful and equipped with everything we needed.
The location is stunning, exactly as portrayed in the photos. The cottage is nestled in the mountains and the view is just spectacular!!!! Absolute peace and tranquility. The only visitors we had were the sheep who came to welcome us!
All of this and still only a half hour drive from Sligo.
Beautiful walks and beautiful drives around the area.
Christine was a pleasure to deal with and we certainly intend to go back!
We would highly recommend Eagles Rock.
We really had a wonderful time during our one-week-stay at the Eagles Rock Cottage. The cottage gives you both - a perfect location for exploring Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim... - and on the other hand a peaceful and remote place for relaxing, reading - or just doing nothing :).
And the view of the mountain and valley is amazing!!! I can't count the number of photographs we have taken of Eagles Rock... different time, different weather, different light... the view sometimes left us speechless!
In the evening, we enjoyed a pint of red ale in front of the fireplace... alltogether, a good place to stay at! We would love to come back!
Our stay at Eagles Rock Cottage was truly amazing. The cottage itself is beautiful with more than anyone could need for a quiet couple of days away. The view from the cabin and the surrounding scenery was truly breathtaking and we were blessed with some great weather. Christine was an amazing host, keeping in touch with us whenever we needed help, and providing us with all sorts of information to make the most of our stay. Stay at Eagles Rock, you won't regret it!
