The adults and children's pools and bar/restaurant are just opposite the balcony. A seperate door leads onto a terrace area beside and behind the apartment, giving further choice of space for sunbathing or shade. There is also a small supermarket and bar/restaurant (named Etcetera) in the basement of the adjacent complex. The main shops are a 15-20 min walk away (or 3euro taxi ride). (Boas Compras is nearest large supermarket - 10 mins walk behind VC).
Security guards patrol the grounds 24/7 for your peace of mind, although there is very little crime in the area and the local people are very helpful and friendly.

Interaction with guests
This is a self catering apartment, and as such, please leave in a reasonably clean and tidy situation. When you arrive, the apt will be freshly cleaned and have clean linen/towels etc. There are cleaning utensils, a washing machine, drying rack, pegs, iron and board. If required, laundry can be arranged with the manager for a small extra charge of 10euros per load. A 1 hour clean is 15euros.
A welcome pack will be supplied on arrival - water, tea, coffee, milk, sugar, washup liquid, toilet rolls, bin bags etc., plus there are usually some cooking basics (e.g. oil etc) in the cupboards. Please replace if finished if you can.
Comprehensive details of the Islands, local area and nearby amenities supplied by eml when booking and are also in the apartment. inc details of the many restaurants etc.
A meet and greet Airport pick up can be arranged for 20 euros payable direct to my manager on arrival, or you can take your own taxi for 10 euros, and be met by the manager at Elcibar (our pool bar/restaurant),
Guests are supplied with a local mobile phone with a small amount of credit, which has useful numbers installed such as taxis, the apartment manager, hospital, doctor, police etc.
I am contactable by phone (inc (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) and (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)) or email anytime and queries will be answered (when/where possible) within 24 hours. Whilst you are on site, Matt (my British apartment managers whose wife also speaks Portuguese) will help with any queries either immediately or within a few hours, as they live in an apartment nearby. Their number will be on the local phone (supplied on arrival).
Wifi and satellite tv are supplied free of charge, e-mails etc are fine, but please do not download large files such as films etc., as the credit will run out. If a code comes up on the screen it may need topping up - please let either myself or Matt know. Thank you.
Other things to note
The fish available locally is very fresh and varied (garupa, swordfish, sailfish, tuna etc), so do visit the fish market - just past the Post Office (over the top of the hill), it's open mornings - the earlier you go the better. In Sal Rei there is also often fish being sold by local fisherman on the quayside and pier next to Te Manche bar/restaurant (very good and very reasonable fresh fish meals here).
You can buy your bread and rolls fresh daily, either from the little basement supermarket/bar next door in VC1, or from the bakery (go early) plus fruit and veg from the market near The Esplanade, and meat from the local butcher (behind the Shell garage). Best to take your own favourite brands of provisions such as tea bags, coffee, cornflakes etc., as goods such as these are only imported occasionally (sea conditions permitting) and therefore can be expensive and not always the brands/type you are used to.
We have a seperate drinking water filter tap fitted at the base of the kitchen sink tap as it is not advisable to drink or wash salad stuff with the normal water supply (ordinary tap water is fine for cooking etc).
If you are eating out, then Elcibar, (our/VC2 pool bar), serves excellent home made snacks and meals (plus beers, soft drinks and cocktails) all day including breakfast (closed Mondays). See their excellent reviews on (website hidden). They also supply a takeaway service plus have Chinese dishes available.
There is another small lively bar with small supermarket next door in VC1 basement., and many good and reasonable restaurants/snack bars (10-15 euros pp for a good meal inc drinks) in town (20 mins walk or taxi 3 euros).
Sorry, no smoking inside the apt please (there are 2 outside areas where you can smoke), and no pets.
There are herbs, spices etc and other dry goods, oil etc available in the apt, but please try to replace if you finish them, or let me or the manager (Matt) know if this is not possible, so that we can arrange refills.
Airbnb keep a reserve of £100 (owner can claim up to this amount for up to a week after guest's departure) damages deposit in case of breakages.
If you'd like a linen and towels change and/or apartment clean, please ask manager (15euro extra charge for 1 hour clean and 10euro per load of laundry). There is a washing machine in the kitchen plus drying rack and pegs, iron and board. Beach towels not supplied, but can be hired for 10euros per week.
There are a few friendly dogs around, most are owned by local people and there are some strays but all of these are harmless, looked after and kept healthy by a local charity animal welfare organisation. There are also wild donkeys although they are not generally seen, but you may hear them during the evening, night or early morning.
During your stay, please put any rubbish in the waste bins at the back of the complex, behind M block (not near the apartment entrance). This is to ensure that ants/cockroaches/flies etc are not encouraged.
After your stay, If you have enjoyed yourselves, positive feedback will be much appreciated. If not, for any reason at all, do please let me know, so that I can improve matters for future guests. Thank you.

I am a busy 60+ year old, despite having had a serious horse riding accident over 30yrs ago which put me in a wheelchair, thereby slowing down or putting a stop to most of my outside interests such as farming and horses. We still have cows and sheep. I now get all the family's clerical and administrative jobs. In the past, I have set up and run a computer staff agency in London, then back in the country, a tea rooms, b&b, farm shop, and 2 campsites, one with carp fishing lakes. My husband left after my accident, but I have wonderful PAs and I enjoy travelling when I can. My favourite destinations are Scotland, Co Kerry in Ireland, the Cape Verde Islands, Florida, Portugal, Canaries, and Spain, but some are more wheelchair friendly than others. I enjoy my own garden, reading and trips to local places of interest such as NT Gardens etc., meeting friends for lunch or the cinema, plus the occasional trip to London where I lived for 12 years before my accident. I enjoy new projects, and I have tried to make my rental apartments home from home that people will want to return to.
My motto is 'Never give up! There's a wonderful world out there'.
