The Space

This spacious newly built and fully equipped apartment is in a small, friendly quality complex of 7 small blocks, overlooking an unspoilt sandy beach.

Sleeps 6 comfortably with 2 double bedrooms (1 x double bed, 2 x twin beds) and a double sofa bed in the sitting room. Also a baby cot and high chair. Ceiling fans + freestanding fan, mosquito nets (only needed occasionally), large wardrobes. TV, DVD player. Fully equipped kitchen with fridge/freezer, drinking water filter, microwave, full cooker, washing machine, iron and board; 1 x ensuite bathroom/shower and toilet, plus 1 x shower room and toilet. Cot and high chair. Hair dryer. Large balcony off sitting room with patio table, chairs and loungers. Games, cards and books, DVDs CDs. 2nd large terrace area off to side for sunbathing or shade at different times of day.

Local phone supplied with local taxi and other useful numbers. Wiifi dongle for single laptop or wifi router for up to 5 mobiles phones, laptops or tablets available to guests for a €20 refundable deposit - buy a €10 top up from Elcibar or anywhere in town. Or small daily fee for wireless code for smartphones etc also from Elcibar.

For disabled guests there is a bathlift and grab bars available by request, plus bed raisers for ease of transfer. Also folding ramps for wheeling on and off taxis. Please ask if further details required. Ramps to pool/bar area and to apartment.

Guest Access

The adults and childrens pools and bar/restaurant are just opposite the balcony. There is a small supermarket in the adjacent complex and the main shops a 10 min walk away.

Security guards patrol the grounds 24/7 for your peace of mind. There is very little crime in the area and the local people are very helpful and friendly.

Interaction with Guests

I am contactable by phone or email anytime and queries will be answered (when/where possible) within 24 hours. Whilst you are on site, Sam and/or Matt (my British apartment managers who also speak Portuguese) will help with any queries either immediately or within a few hours, as they live in an apartment nearby. Their number will be on the local phone (supplied on arrival).

The Neighborhood

The immediate neighbourhood is quiet and unspoilt, but with all amenities close by. The town of Sal Rei (meaning Salt King) - is a 10 minute walk away, with its colourful shops, bars and restaurants.

Visit the Town Square with its church and bars/restaurants close to the pier and beach. The banks/atms etc are also in town. Phone cards and sim cards can be purchased almost anywhere.

Apart from our own Elcibar on site, there are several good bar/restaurants just a short stroll to the town, (details of the good ones supplied).

There are many things to do - surfing; wind surfing; kite surfing; whale watching (from March - June; turtles hatching (from Jul - August); fishing (shore and deep sea); snorkelling; scuba diving; swimming, sightseeing, dune buggying, or, of course just chilling out round the pool, on the balcony, or at the many beach bars along the coast.

Getting Around

Lots of local taxis around (just €3 or 4 euros to town or easily walkable), and our apt managers can provide details of tours, trips and restaurants nearby for your enjoyment. Beach buggies, scooters, bicycles and cars for hire locally. Parking in view, immediately outside the apartments.

Other Things to Note

The fish available locally is very fresh and varied, so do visit the fish market (open mornings - the earlier the better) in Sal Rei. There is also often fish being sold by local fisherman on the quayside and pier next to Te Manche bar/restaurant. You can buy your bread and rolls fresh daily, either from the little supermarket/bar next door in VC1, or from the bakery (go early) plus fruit and veg from the market, and meat from the local butcher. Best to take your own favourite brands of provisions such as tea bags, coffee, cornflakes etc., as goods such as these are only imported occasionally (sea conditions permitting) and therefore can be expensive and not always the brands/type we are used to.

We have a water filter fitted in the kitchen as it is not advisable to drink the normal water supply.

If you are eating out, then Elcibar, (our pool bar), serves excellent snacks and meals (plus beers, soft drinks and cocktails) all day including breakfast (closed Mondays). See their excellent reviews on (website hidden). There is also another small bar and supermarket next door in VC1., and many good restaurants/snack bars in town.

House Rules

Sorry, no smoking please or pets in apartment.

There are herbs, spices etc and other dry goods available in the apt, but please try to replace if you finish them, or let me know if this is not possible, so that I can arrange refills. We also ask for a £100 (refundable 1 week after departure) damages deposit in case of breakages.

If you'd like a linen and towels change, please ask. It is included for stays of 2 weeks or more, and there is a washing machine in the kitchen.

There are a few dogs around, most are owned by local people but there are some homeless but all of these are harmless and looked after and kept healthy by a local charity animal welfare organisation. There are also wild donkeys although they are not generally seen, but you may occasionally hear them in the evening or early morning.

During your stay, please put any rubbish in the waste bins at the back of the complex, behind M block (not near the apartment entrance).
