The Space

An adventurer's paradise. This cute and funky bungalow is located just moments from the beautiful Sunset Beach, famous for attracting the kiting community. There are hiking trails just before you reach Sunset Beach that lead to many of the area's natural and historical attractions. You can also fish, kayak or canoe at Sunset, Cullaby or Coffinberry Lakes which are all easily reached from the cottage.

The house is located directly between Seaside and Astoria. It is a great location for exploring both coastal communities. Astoria is historic with beautiful Victorians and a thriving new brew pub industry. Seaside is perfect for the kids with bumper cars, arcades, outlet malls shopping and an aquarium where you can feed the seals.

The house is small, yet functional. The bedroom nook houses a double bed. It is divided from the living area by curtains. The bed is very comfortable. It is a great place to sleep in since it stays nice and dark and there is virtually no noise in the neighborhood (most days).

The second sleeping area holds a bunk bed with a double futon and a single bed above. There is a recliner there too. This is usable as a "living room" if a couple stays or as another "bedroom" for other adults or kids.

In the front room here is a funky 1960's sofa near the woodstove that also folds into a bed suitable for one. The cottage can sleep up to 6 people. SInce it is small and there is only 1 bathroom, it is best for a couple or a family.

The kitchen has a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, griddle and a hotplate. There is plenty of pantry space and the home comes equipped with dishes and flatware for 6. There is a dining nook that seats 4 comfortably

The wood burning stove will be your main source of heat. Please make sure you know how to build a fire or be willing to learn. And please always be safe! If it is very cold, or if you are wary of the fire, there are two small electric heaters.

Just off the front steps is an outdoor covered area for BBQs, cuddling up and reading a good book, or an evening cocktail. There is also room to hang stuff out to dry after those long days on the beach! The yard is quite large and holds two trees perfect for setting up a slackline or clothes line if you prefer. There is also a lovely fire pit with benches for your enjoyment.

  • Shell Cottage is a rustic and quite charming little cottage. it was a cosy shelter from the rain. It became quite warm thanks to the wood stove .The little house was clean and welcoming. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen area allows for minimal cooking or reheating meals. It was great to have the little BBQ outside. It is a great location. 5 min walk from the beach, not far from Astoria. We certainly enjoyed our stay! We never got to meet Kaylin who was away that WE, but we got our questions answered via text message. Thank you!

  • Shell Cottage was such a wonderful rest and relaxation getaway location. We loved the simplicity of the cabin, the awesome walk to the beach and the short drive to adorable Astoria. The hosts were super warm and accommodating. This little cottage is true gem!

  • Our family of 4 had a great time at sunset beach! The cottage slept all of us fine, the kids loved the bunk bed, and ended up playing on the top during the rainstorm. We also enjoyed the DVD selection, it was fun to show the kids "The Goonies" for the 1st time, then bring them into Astoria to see the sites. Super quick walk to the beach from here, and a handy little coffee shop/ bakery right around the corner.

  • We had such a great time in this cozy little cottage. Large yard for the dogs, easy walk to the beach, great shower...we even loved the little VHS TV in the bedroom- didn't even use the larger screen. When this sort of place exists it's hard to imagine every going back to using hotel rooms- what a great find and deal!!

  • Thank you Keelin and Walter, for a lovely four days. The little cottage has everything a person needs to rest and rejuvenate. Books, movies, firewood, corkscrew! Wonderful, comfy bed and the bathroom so fresh with new tile. I hope to return again soon!

  • I almost don't want to say good stuff, because we don't want to share access to this sweet spot! We found a Shell Cottage to be just what we needed- a great home base after days packed with basketball tournaments and sight seeing. If you choose to stay, bring some firewood and take advantage of the wood stove or outdoor fire pit.

  • We stayed 4 nights at this lovely cottage. It had everything we needed. Adorable setup and so close to the beach! We hope to come back again really soon. Thank you again for a fabulous stay.

  • What sweet little house. We were lucky enough to have a chilly, sunny January weekend and we all enjoyed sitting around the firepit in the backyard. The beds were quite comfortable and while the wood stove proved to be a little more effort to keep stoked than we wanted, the house stayed quite cozy with the space heaters provided! We'll definitely head back there again.

Middle School Teacher
I am a middle school teacher who loves to travel. My daughter and I enjoy traveling together and experiencing new cultures, language and trying new foods. We have been to Guatemala, Italy, Canada and Japan together. I have used Airbnb myself in Japan, Washington and Canada. In the past,I have always rented apartments wherever possible when traveling. I have rented from individuals in Florence and Rome, and in Guatemala. I was always worried that these apartments that I had paid for might not really exist when I showed up. When I found Airbnb I knew it was a fit for me in my personal traveling and hosting style. I believe guests want their own space where they can explore Portland at their pace and in their style. Having an apartment with a kitchen to come home to makes traveling, especially with children, so much easier. Woohoo! Walter and I got married on October 30, 2011! I am now Keelin Brubaker!
