An adventurer's paradise. This cute and funky bungalow is located just moments from the beautiful Sunset Beach, famous for attracting the kiting community. There are hiking trails just before you reach Sunset Beach that lead to many of the area's natural and historical attractions. You can also fish, kayak or canoe at Sunset, Cullaby or Coffinberry Lakes which are all easily reached from the cottage.
The house is located directly between Seaside and Astoria. It is a great location for exploring both coastal communities. Astoria is historic with beautiful Victorians and a thriving new brew pub industry. Seaside is perfect for the kids with bumper cars, arcades, outlet malls shopping and an aquarium where you can feed the seals.
The house is small, yet functional. The bedroom nook houses a queen bed. It is divided from the living area by curtains. The bed is very comfortable. It is a great place to sleep in since it stays nice and dark and there is virtually no noise in the neighborhood (most days).
The second sleeping area holds a bunk bed with a double futon and a single bed above. This is usable as a "living room" if a couple stays or as another "bedroom" for other adults or kids.
In the front room here is a funky 1960's sofa near the woodstove that also folds into a bed suitable for one. The cottage can sleep up to 6 people. SInce it is small and there is only 1 bathroom, it is best for a couple or a family.
The kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, griddle and a hotplate. There is plenty of pantry space and the home comes equipped with dishes and flatware for 6. There is a dining nook that seats 4 comfortably
The wood burning stove will be your main source of heat. Please make sure you know how to build a fire or be willing to learn. And please always be safe! If it is very cold, or if you are wary of the fire, there are two small electric heaters.
Just off the front steps is an outdoor covered area for BBQs, cuddling up and reading a good book, or an evening cocktail. There is also room to hang stuff out to dry after those long days on the beach! The yard is quite large and holds two trees perfect for setting up a slackline or clothes line if you prefer. There is also a lovely fire pit with benches for your enjoyment.
* Have fun and be safe!
* Don't burn the place down, only use small pieces of wood and newspaper in the wood stove. If you're not comfortable with fires just buy a few presto logs. They're easy to start and will keep the place warm.
* Don't flush anything besides toilet paper down the toilet. It is on a septic system. Please don't use harsh chemicals or bleach at the house. It will kill all the good critters in the system.
* Put your trash in the bin outside
* Strip bed and place sheets in hamper

Have a fabulous stay!
Lovely little place! Just enough room for 4 adults. A perfect location for exploring this part of Oregon, and all the amenities needed for a short stay. Thanks to our hosts for a wonderful stay!
Shell Cottage was great! It's a quaint little place in a quiet area and very close to the beach. It is small, but perfect for the three people who stayed for the couple of nights. The cabin had plenty of clean linens and towels and a full kitchen. I would definitely come back to Shell Cottage!
My family loved staying at Shell Cottage. It was the perfect spot for us to rest and dry off between excursions at the beach. We found it was close enough to all the tourist attractions we wanted to visit but far enough away that we felt like we could go "home" to relax.
Shell Cottage is the perfect place for a quiet getaway. Within close driving distance to Astoria and Seaside, but comfortably away from the rush. The yard is lovely and large, cottage is quaint, a bit rustic and comfy and the kitchen just-enough. This was my second stay here and enjoyed it to the fullest.
We had a great time and wonderful weather. Reconnected with relatives in the area. Saw some local attractions and loved being able to take the short walk to the beach. The chemical smell the first night was annoying and after airing out the next day was no longer an issue.
Was a much better experience than a hotel. More like our own cottage at the beach would be.
The chemical smell was from a deep cleaning that the cottage needs every couple of weeks. The dampness of the Oregon coast makes it a necessity to clean extra deep to ensure there isn't any nasty mold issues. We had a back to back rental, so the smell didn't have quite enough time to (email hidden)ough it happens rarely.
I stayed at Shell Cottage because it was a close drive to Astoria and a festival I wanted to attend. Keelin and Warren were incredibly responsive any time I had a question leading up to my stay. When I let them know last minute two other people would be joining me, they made sure there were enough linens and towels. The Cottage is great; nothing fancy, but basically everything I could need. Full sized fridge, microwave, hot plate, shower... they maximized the space and added plenty of fun and charm. Showers were hot, which is always important. Location is great... walk one way down the road and you're at Sunset Lake. Walk the other and you're at Sunset Beach. Eight miles north and you're in Astoria or going the same amount of time gets you to Seaside. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants something simple, comfortable, and convenient.
Keelin and Walter were great! The house was clean and well stocked and soooooo close to the beach and hiking trails. We'll be back for sure!

I am a middle school teacher who loves to travel. My daughter and I enjoy traveling together and experiencing new cultures, language and trying new foods. We have been to Guatemala, Italy, Canada and Japan together. I have used Airbnb myself in Japan, Washington and Canada. In the past,I have always rented apartments wherever possible when traveling. I have rented from individuals in Florence and Rome, and in Guatemala. I was always worried that these apartments that I had paid for might not really exist when I showed up. When I found Airbnb I knew it was a fit for me in my personal traveling and hosting style. I believe guests want their own space where they can explore Portland at their pace and in their style. Having an apartment with a kitchen to come home to makes traveling, especially with children, so much easier.
Woohoo! Walter and I got married on October 30, 2011! I am now Keelin Brubaker!
