About this listing
An adventurer's paradise. This cute and funky bungalow is located just moments from the beautiful Sunset Beach, famous for attracting the kiting community. There are hiking trails just before you reach Sunset Beach that lead to many of the area's natural and historical attractions. You can also fish, kayak or canoe at Sunset, Cullaby or Coffinberry Lakes which are all easily reached from the cottage.
The house is located directly between Seaside and Astoria. It is a great location for exploring both coastal communities. Astoria is historic with beautiful Victorians and a thriving new brew pub industry. Seaside is perfect for the kids with bumper cars, arcades, outlet malls shopping and an aquarium where you can feed the seals.
The house is small, yet functional. The bedroom nook houses a queen bed. It is divided from the living area by curtains. The bed is very comfortable. It is a great place to sleep in since it stays nice and dark and there is virtually no noise in the neighborhood (most days).
The second sleeping area holds a bunk bed with a double futon and a single bed above. This is usable as a "living room" if a couple stays or as another "bedroom" for other adults or kids.
In the front room here is a funky 1960's sofa near the woodstove that also folds into a bed suitable for one. The cottage can sleep up to 6 people. SInce it is small and there is only 1 bathroom, it is best for a couple or a family.
The kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, griddle and a hotplate. There is plenty of pantry space and the home comes equipped with dishes and flatware for 6. There is a dining nook that seats 4 comfortably
The wood burning stove will be your main source of heat. Please make sure you know how to build a fire or be willing to learn. And please always be safe! If it is very cold, or if you are wary of the fire, there are two small electric heaters.
Just off the front steps is an outdoor covered area for BBQs, cuddling up and reading a good book, or an evening cocktail. There is also room to hang stuff out to dry after those long days on the beach! The yard is quite large and holds two trees perfect for setting up a slackline or clothes line if you prefer. There is also a lovely fire pit with benches for your enjoyment.
* Have fun and be safe!
* Don't burn the place down, only use small pieces of wood and newspaper in the wood stove. If you're not comfortable with fires just buy a few presto logs. They're easy to start and will keep the place warm.
* Don't flush anything besides toilet paper down the toilet. It is on a septic system. Please don't use harsh chemicals or bleach at the house. It will kill all the good critters in the system.
* Put your trash in the bin outside
* Strip bed and place sheets in hamper

Have a fabulous stay!
She did not - no one was there
I has very dissapointed. I understand that an Air BnB is not at the same standards as a regular B & B but there should be some things that are standard.
The sheet would not stay on the bed, kept coming off, and to my surprise their was no Mattress Cover. Something that could be washed over the mattress would of been really nice.
Outside the back yard was very overgrown. There was a hamek but you could not of used it due to the branches grown through it. The whole yard needed some major cleanup.
I got the idea that this was a place where the owners where not there and did not check up on it very often. Besides from the mattress the place was clean, just dissappointing
Every once in a while we get a guest that is not happy with the cottage......and as you can see from past reviews, this is rare. Over the years that we have been renting our place we have had more people complain about a mattress cover than not.....so we chose to not use a cover. The sheet should not have been an issue since there are tons of sheets in the wardrobe and dresser.....no less than four on hand at any time, but I guess complaining that it came off is easier than putting another one on. We get the yard mowed every week, so one persons idea of an overgrown lawn may not be the same as all the people that we have rented to so far. The hammock.....not hamek is not ours, but nobody asked us about it.....so again, it was easier to complain that simply ask if we had one to use. Just a side note, there was a major storm that came through right before this guest stayed, and we were down there to do some repairs on the cottage......and we are very particular about how our place looked......it's not the Ritz, but for the price you will not find a better place on the coast. We always get rave reviews about our cottage, but when we have guests that seem to be ultra picky......we tend to be very defensive. We always strive to keep our guests happy.
The cottage was adequate for our needs. I would have liked to have seen the yard/porch area a little more tidy when we arrived. It was quite in need of some attention. We had a good time otherwise.
We had a great experience & enjoyed the cottage. Location between Astoria & Seaside made it possible to explore & enjoy a multitude of activities. Quiet location close to the sea was wonderful.
The Shell Cottage is a cozy and comfortable place to stay and the perfect location for a home base to explore the coast. We loved the fact that the location was convenient and close to the beach and not located in a busy tourist area.
We loved She'll cottage. Comfy beds, quiet nights, excellent location. Kitchen well organized, place cozy and clean!
We loved our stay at the cottage. Its location was perfect for families with children. Beach is within walking distance. My girls are already talking about coming back for our next vacation!! Thanks for sharing your home with us!!

About the Host, Keelin
I am a middle school teacher who loves to travel. My daughter and I enjoy traveling together and experiencing new cultures, language and trying new foods. We have been to Guatemala, Italy, Canada and Japan together. I have used Airbnb myself in Japan, Washington and Canada. In the past,I have always rented apartments wherever possible when traveling. I have rented from individuals in Florence and Rome, and in Guatemala. I was always worried that these apartments that I had paid for might not really exist when I showed up. When I found Airbnb I knew it was a fit for me in my personal traveling and hosting style. I believe guests want their own space where they can explore Portland at their pace and in their style. Having an apartment with a kitchen to come home to makes traveling, especially with children, so much easier.
Woohoo! Walter and I got married on October 30, 2011! I am now Keelin Brubaker!
