Interaction with Guests
I ask for a coordinated time to "meet and greet" and go over the house layout and rules, and to answer any questions you may have. After that, you can be on your own, or have coordinated breakfast time. You can check out on your own.
Quiet, residential neighborhood, lovely to walk or run around the lake area. It is also conveniently located just east of Notre Dame and just west of the mall and the main shopping/restaurant areas of Grape Rd and Main St.
On the bus route. Parking on the street or cul-de-sac nearby. Taxis from the SBN airport to my home charge from $10 to $30 depending on week-end rates and number of riders/luggage. With previous arrangements & for a fee, I can also do pick ups and drop offs around town.
Other Things to Note
I do have a Labrador on the premises. He is mostly an outdoor dog and sticks to the backyard. If he does enter, he heads straight into the basement: he is not allowed in bedrooms, kitchen, or living room. However, if you have extreme allergies to dogs, my home may not be suitable for you.
No smokers, no alcohol (although a drink with meals is OK). I reserve the right to refuse entry to intoxicated guests. Please remove your shoes as you enter. Be respectful of the other occupants in the home by keeping noise to a minimum, and cleaning up after yourself. Only registered guests allowed in the home.
Heather was a great host. I did not stay there much, but she made it really easy to get a hold of her, and always made herself available. It was a nice home only 30 minutes walking of campus. She even asked what I would like for breakfast and had it there for me! I would definitely choose to stay here again.
This was my first experience with Airbnb and I didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. Heather was a great host and her house was very clean and cozy. The room was a good size with a desk, a rack to hang clothes and the bed was super comfortable. The breakfast was great and Heather was friendly and easy to talk to. It is also close to Notre Dame. I would definitely recommend Heather and her place to anyone and look forward to staying there again.
What a great stay! Our experience from beginning-to-end at our host Heather's house was first rate. Heather is very responsive in communications and clearly explains what is available in the room and at the house. She also clearly clearly defines expectations of the guests in her house. We were provided a very nice room, set up well for the traveler with a comfortable bed, travel desk, a rack system to hang clothes and towels, and a clothes basket to put used towels and linens in at the end of the stay. There was another traveling couple in the house at the same time, but we had zero conflicts for the shower or anything else. We hardly even noticed they were there. There was a white board for scheduling shower time which managed everyone's expectations perfectly. Very clean, enjoyable house in a quiet, safe neighborhood. Heather scheduled a check-in time and then greeted us upon arrival. A very nice breakfast was offered each morning of our stay. Once again, a great overall experience and I highly endorse both our host and the accommodations!

About the Host, Heather
I teach French at IU South Bend, and enjoy discovering new cultures and new people. I am very active and enjoy playing sports, working out, dancing, as well as running and walking my Lab around the neighborhood. I speak French and Spanish fluently (as well as English!), and have been hosting international students in my home for 4 years. I live in the upstairs suite of the house with my husband Victor and our baby girl. I turned to AirBnB starting in 2013 to fill the downstairs rooms when my students and/or step sons are away, and to make a little extra cash to fund our own travels. Would love to have a chat with you about your own travels and swap travel tips, and of course, Notre Dame :)
Please contact me first through message before sending in a reservation request - I would hate for it to expire or have to turn you down if I don't have enough information from you (especially if this is your first BnB experience and you have no feedback yet). If it's not a Notre Dame football week-end, discounts are available, so it is best to establish a conversation first :)
