Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Pros:

*The room is big, adequately furnished and exactly as advertised
    *Clean towels all day long
*Haedong and his uncle are polite and helpful in a minimum customer service kind of way
*Haedong usually responds quickly when you contact him
    *Metro is close by
    *Stable Internet

    *Uncle-Park doesn't work and is home 24/7
*Uncle-Park cannot speak enough English to have a conversation
*The living room area is small, unfurnished and the uncle often sleeps/watches TV/entertains family there
*You will be isolated to your room as the tiny living area is most often occupied by the uncle
*The bathroom is in an odd location off of the open kitchenette. So, you may have to step over/around the sleeping/eating/TV watching uncle to get to it to do your business
*There is no air conditioning in the apt except for the room for rent. It gets really hot in the apt, so Uncle-Park keeps the doors and windows open, thus letting in mosquitoes and flies. I was bitten several times by mosquitoes. Uncle-Park's son, who also lives in the apt., has a nice mosquito net over his bed and sleeps soundly at night without these worries. Although, I was given some ointment for my wounds and an oil lamp to repel the mosquitoes (doesn't work on the flies though)
*You will probably not see Haedong during your stay. He mentioned having a drink/dinner together when I arrived, but was just being polite
*Uncle-Park's son is antisocial and not friendly
*The metro station Achasan, is far from central Seoul (45+ min commutes).

    Notable events:

Uncle-Park's son locked me inside the room twice. There are sliding glass doors leading into the entry of the room that can only be locked or unlocked from outside. Uncle-Park's son locked these doors and I could not get out. I had to bang on the doors until Uncle-Park came to let me out. The son would lock the doors and then leave the apt. I was not going to mention this until it happened a second time. The first time is an accident, the second time..well.

The bathroom sink faucet broke and was unusable for 3 days. Uncle-Park does his own home repairs.

There was some miscommunication with helping me get a taxi on my last day, but I was able to get one on my own and catch the airport bus in time.

I personally like to get to know and spend time with my hosts, and although this place was not a good fit for me, I recommend Haedong's uncle's place for short term stays. The room is big, nicely furnished and lots of closet space to hang your clothes. Plus, it's a short walk to the metro.

If you just need an inexpensive room and are not interested in spending time with a Korean family, learning more about the culture, language and/or your hosts, Haedong's place will surely fit the bill. Enjoy your time in Seoul, and at Haedong's uncle's place! :-)

  • It's located conveniently near subway. I only had chance to meet host's uncle and his son and there were very accommodating during the entire stay. Its drawback would be that you'd have to share bathroom and entrance with the host, but room itself is very spacious and located away from other bedrooms so you would have little more privacy. Beddings, pillows, and towels were all clean and they provided us with more than enough towels for us to (website hidden)'s uncle also helped us with the laundry, too!
I would definitely stay here again as host's family were friendly, its location is very convenient, and it's very reasonably priced.

  • The location is perfect. Walkable distance (really close) to subway Line 5. The neighborhood has everything you need too: a lot of food places and a 24-hour convenience store located close to the place. The stay was perfect, though I didn't meet Shin himself. His uncle was really friendly and super helpful, and since me my friend and I speaks Korean, we didn't really encounter much trouble during our stay. He also speaks good English, so no worries if you know no Korean! I will definitely come back and stay with Shin!

    Response from Haedong:

During you stay our place, I should be at hospital because of lung surgery (pneumothorax). So we couldn't meet each other. If you visit here again, definitely want to meet and have some talk. Thanks !

  • The room is exactly as described, and our hosts were wonderful...kind, friendly, and patient. Some amenities include a closet with hangers, hair dryer, travel converter, toaster, teapot, TV, and a refrigerator. We bought bulgogi stuffed rice balls, water, tea, and (email hidden) down the street and enjoyed watching the kids coming to and from school and the magpies caring for their nest. There are lovely views from the rooftop garden. It was a very nice slice of Korean life. We hope to stay again!

  • Haedong's uncle was very helpful. Room was very clean. Stayed for 6 nights. Close to subway and convenience store. Comfortable stay!

  • Staying at Haedong apartment was a nice experience. Prior to our arrival Haedong sent us detailed information about his home and it's location. Therefore we had no difficulties to find the apartment. It is located in a quiet neighbourhood and very close to a subway station.

The room was very clean. It's a bit separated from the owners part of the apartment so we had our own private space. The room was well equipped (towels, fridge, TV,...). Haedong's uncle who is also living there is a very nice and polite person. He made us feel very comfortable.

We would recommend this apartment to everyone visiting Seoul.

  • Haedong's place was exactly as advertised; big, clean and comfortable. Although I did not get the chance to meet Haedong, his directions were very helpful and his uncle who lives there was very kind and helpful to me as well.

  • Nice place and close to the subway, very easy to find. Haedong and his uncle are very welcoming.

  • What can I say? This experience has been fantastic! Haedong and his family are very nice people. His uncle's house is very clean and the room you are going to sleep in large and comfortable! The internet connection, as mentioned by other users before, is extremely fast.
Achasan is a fast gate to all the city area, since line number 5 crosses all the others in a couple of stops.
Unfortunately, the day before leaving, I caught a cold but Haedong did his best to help me. I'll never forget this.
If I went again to Seoul, I'd surely stay there again.
