Charming old house with new amenities -- private bedroom with access to 2 bathrooms (one with a claw-foot soaker tub), tv room, living room with fireplace, chef's kitchen and fenced in garden oasis. Close to beautiful parks, public transit, restaurants and bars. A relaxing retreat on a busy thoroughfare.
Working fireplace and comfortable living room to kick up your feet after a long day of exploring Portland.
Our house is all about comfort and relaxing. We have some nice furnishings but nothing is "untouchable". Our house is a 1935 English Tudor that went through an extensive renovation in 2006. The old charm is in tact with great modern amenities. Our house is on a busy thoroughfare which offers access to a lot of transportation options but once inside you get to unwind in comfort and quiet.
You will have access to the entire house except for our private bedrooms. We have 2 shared bathrooms (downstairs bathroom with full shower & tub; upstairs bathroom features a soaker tub). Kitchen, kitchen nook, dining room, living room and tv room are all available for your use. We also have WIFI available.
Interaction with Guests
We are friendly but sometimes busy people. We are available to offer suggestions on great places to eat, drink and visit. We know Portland very well and have the inside scoop on the food and wine scene that we are happy to share. We also respect your privacy and encourage you to do your own thing because usually we are doing our own thing,
We are in an up-and-coming neighborhood that we keep falling in love with over and over again. 3 blocks from historic Peninsula Park which has the oldest rose garden in Portland, a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, tennis & basketball courts, and baseball fields. Walking distance from an organic grocery store, great cafes, bars, and restaurants. Very close to both Concordia University, University of Portland, and Portland Community College.
Our house is 4 short blocks from the Max Light Rail (Yellow Line) that can quickly get you to downtown Portland and connect you to trains that go to the airport and beyond. We also have access to a number of bus lines that can get you to many of the unique neighborhoods Portland has to offer.
We are conveniently located near major highways that will bring you to the Oregon coast, Columbia River Gorge, Wine Country, Mt Hood and beyond.
Other Things to Note
Are you a food/wine connoisseur? We can offer amazing recommendations on where to go and how to navigate.
Enjoy the outdoors? We can recommend hikes, swimming holes, ski resorts, and rafting expeditions.
Want to explore Portland Culture? We live in historic Piedmont neighborhood which borders Arbor Lodge. You can easily walk to Mississippi (1 mile), Alberta (2 miles), and the Williams District (2 miles).
Friendly pets are welcome -- we have a boxer puppy named Delta Dawn who is super friendly and sweet. Everyone falls in love with her. She is crate-trained. Feel free to smoke in our backyard and put your cigarette butts in the outdoor ashtray. Come and go as you please but no brass bands when you come home at 3am. Feel free to use common areas, just pick up after yourself.
Lovely stay in Portland. My boyfriend and I felt right at home, especially with their sweet dog, Delta. We had access to all parts of the house, but stayed on our room the majority of the time. The room was private and clean, something everyone can appreciate. I would recommend this place to a friend :)
Jessica, Ethan and Delta were very pleasant, welcoming and warming people to stay with. Jessica had terrific recommendations for places to visit and she and the rest of the gang made my dog feel very welcome. I have high regards for those who can make strangers feel like relatives and Jessica and Ethan surpassed that bar of standard.
Jessica and Ethan's place was the perfect home base from which to explore Portland and the surrounding area. Located in a quiet, charming residential neighborhood within easy walking distance of both public transportation and local eateries, we had the perfect balance of privacy and access. In addition to the lovely private bathroom (with clawfoot tub!) right outside our cozy and tastefully appointed room, they gave us full access to their living and dining areas and kitchen, which really made us feel at home and enabled us to cook many of our meals ourselves. They also gave us great recommendations for restaurants (be sure to check out The Parish, especially for brunch, located in The Pearl district, near downtown!).
They are great communicators, and were graciously flexible when coordinating our (slightly delayed) arrival. Overall, they are the most friendly and laid back hosts you could ask for. Plus, their boxer Delta Dawn infused extra joy into our five-day stay. :)
House was nice, bed was really comfy. Host wasn't there when we got there.
Jessica is very helpful during our stay. We arrived after midnight, she left lights on to show our way to the bedroom. Jessica's house is also very clean and organized. The dog they have was friendly and she never barked. Great location to major sight seeing places in Portland and downtown.
Very charming house. Very comfy accommodations and great location to interstate and downtown Portland.
Everything was nice and clean, Jessica and Ethan were very welcoming and respectful of our privacy and such, and Delta was devastatingly cute! A nice experience :)
About me: I have a long history of being a "do-gooder" (aka I've worked in non-profits for quite some time). I'm originally from Syracuse, NY and spent a decade living and loving Brooklyn. I am pretty mellow but the east-coaster in me re-surfaces on occasion (which is a good thing!). I love the water, adore the sunshine and appreciate it even more now that I live in Portland (absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? And summers here are spectacular -- they almost make you forget about the drizzle.).
About the other guy that lives here: My fiance, Ethan, is a chef and restauranteur. He co-owns two restaurants in Portland: Eat: An Oyster Bar in N Portland and The Parish located in the Pearl District. He is a southern gentleman from Arkansas and he is obsessed with college football (Go Hogs!).
About us: We are a laid back couple that enjoys life and loves to entertain.
