Private Room in a Portland Charmer

House - Private room · North Rosa Parks Way, Portland, OR 97217, United States

Charming old house with new amenities -- private bedroom with access to 2 bathrooms (one with a claw-foot soaker tub), tv room, living room with fireplace, chef's kitchen and fenced in garden oasis. Close to beautiful parks, public transit, restaurants and bars. A relaxing retreat on a busy thoroughfare.

The Space

Our house is all about comfort and relaxing. We have some nice furnishings but nothing is "untouchable". Our house is a 1935 English Tudor that went through an extensive renovation in 2006. The old charm is in tact with great modern amenities. Our house is on a busy thoroughfare which offers access to a lot of transportation options but once inside you get to unwind in comfort and quiet.

Guest Access

You will have access to the entire house except for our private bedrooms. We have 2 shared bathrooms (downstairs bathroom with full shower & tub; upstairs bathroom features a soaker tub). Kitchen, kitchen nook, dining room, living room and tv room are all available for your use. We also have WIFI available.

Interaction with Guests

We are friendly but sometimes busy people. We are available to offer suggestions on great places to eat, drink and visit. We know Portland very well and have the inside scoop on the food and wine scene that we are happy to share. We also respect your privacy and encourage you to do your own thing because usually we are doing our own thing,

The Neighborhood

We are in an up-and-coming neighborhood that we keep falling in love with over and over again. 3 blocks from historic Peninsula Park which has the oldest rose garden in Portland, a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, tennis & basketball courts, and baseball fields. Walking distance from an organic grocery store, great cafes, bars, and restaurants. Very close to both Concordia University, University of Portland, and Portland Community College.

Getting around

Our house is 4 short blocks from the Max Light Rail (Yellow Line) that can quickly get you to downtown Portland and connect you to trains that go to the airport and beyond. We also have access to a number of bus lines that can get you to many of the unique neighborhoods Portland has to offer.

We are conveniently located near major highways that will bring you to the Oregon coast, Columbia River Gorge, Wine Country, Mt Hood and beyond.

Other Things to Note

Are you a food/wine connoisseur? We can offer amazing recommendations on where to go and how to navigate.

Enjoy the outdoors? We can recommend hikes, swimming holes, ski resorts, and rafting expeditions.

Want to explore Portland Culture? We live in historic Piedmont neighborhood which borders Arbor Lodge. You can easily walk to Mississippi (1 mile), Alberta (2 miles), and the Williams District (2 miles).

  • Jessica, Ethan & Miss Delta was very gracious and kind. The house is situated on a busy corner but I didn't mind the noise so for me it was fine. Hot temperatures kept the bedroom warm, Jessica gave me a fan which helped but it was still warm. However, in the heat of a Portland summer this room will need some serious cooling off. Although I didn't use the kitchen, it was readily available and stocked for my breakfast needs. (I ate with family.) Miss Delta is very sweet and friendly and kept to her kennel when Jessica and Ethan were out. Fred Meyer and New Seasons Markets are less then 1/2 mile away, and access in and out of the property was convenient and easy for my traveling. I enjoyed my stay and would like to return in the Autumn with my husband. Ethan and I spoke about a larger bed (it's a double) and he was very amiable about the possibility.

  • We recently had the pleasure of staying with Jessica and Ethan in Portland. Not only were they very accommodating but also very helpful being that it was our first time visiting Portland. On short notice, we were able to add an additional nights stay. Also, they recommended that we visit Council Crest (for an amazing view of Portland and the surrounding area) and the Farmer's Market, both sights we would have missed without the local knowledge of our hosts. We hope to visit Portland again soon, and I wouldn't hesitate returning to Jessica and Ethan's home.

  • Jessica and Ethan were an absolute pleasure to stay with. The house was clean and lovely. I recommend staying with them if you are visiting Portland anytime soon. The room was like a little zen zone if you will, and the bed was super comfortable. We would definitely book there again next time we're in Portland! Good vibes all around :)

  • Jessica was a great host. She was responsive and accommodating, while also providing a private space so we could feel at ease. Her house is gorgeous and clean, and the room and bed were so inviting and comfy. She is also located in a perfect spot for access to downtown. I would highly recommend staying here!

  • Great stay in Jessica's home. Came into town to view local university. Jessica not only allowed us to bring our dog she assisted with an awesome doggy day care reference. Very conveniently located to our needs. Lovely neighborhood where we comfortable walked around at dusk. No negatives! She even had an aspirin on hand when my daughter woke up with a head cold. Full service. Her pup Delta was just icing on the cake! Will keep Jessica in mind as Portland looks like our top pick of schools!

  • Lovely place! Comfy bed, yummy coffee, cute dog, friendly advice. Jessica and Ethan were just as helpful as we wanted them to be, and the rest of the time were very laid back and gave us our space, which I appreciated as a traveler exploring OR for the first time :) That bathtub is a GEM. Because we had a car, the location was excellent (right off the highway, short drive to anywhere in Portland). Had a great time, thank you muchly hosts.

  • Both Jessica and Ethan were very nice and welcoming and Delta is very sweet. The accommodations were very comfortable and, for us, conveniently located.

  • We had a great experience staying much so that we extended our stay two more nights. Jessica and Ethan were super-friendly and we appreciated how easy-going there are and how they offered up coffee and breakfast. We loved their sweet pup, Delta, too. Coming and going was simple. Though we weren't aware of how close the house is to the freeway beforehand, we actually ended up appreciating the white noise of the cars while falling asleep and also the ease of hopping on and off the freeway as we ventured out around town by car. We also loved Jessica's breakfast recommendation of Sweedeedee! The great experience staying here helped to make our first trip to Portland (and 2nd Airbnb stay) fabulous! (Thanks, J, E, & D!)

About me: I have a long history of being a "do-gooder" (aka I've worked in non-profits for quite some time). I'm originally from Syracuse, NY and spent a decade living and loving Brooklyn. I am pretty mellow but the east-coaster in me re-surfaces on occasion (which is a good thing!). I love the water, adore the sunshine and appreciate it even more now that I live in Portland (absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? And summers here are spectacular -- they almost make you forget about the drizzle.). About the other guy that lives here: My fiance, Ethan, is a chef and restauranteur. He co-owns two restaurants in Portland: Eat: An Oyster Bar in N Portland and The Parish located in the Pearl District. He is a southern gentleman from Arkansas and he is obsessed with college football (Go Hogs!). About us: We are a laid back couple that enjoys life and loves to entertain.
