  • Our stay in the jungle studio was amazing. We really enjoyed the patio and stayed hours watching the monkeys in the trees. The apartment is well furnished, the kitchen is practical but if you want to cook be sure to bring salt/pepper/oil as there is none. It is also well located, a short 20 minutes walk to the Town of Manuel Antonio. A bus stop is also just next to the apartment. Plenty of restaurants around! We loved it!

  • Must say, this was very disappointing.
It must be said first that the surroundings, the deck (which provided a great view of wildlife) as well as the pool and onsite restaurant were wonderful. However, the room itself was disconcertingly dirty and overrun by ants and other insects.
To the point where the ant invasion even spread to our suitcases and clean clothes. Yes there is a kitchenette, but why the hell would you want to cook there when there are already a million ants without any food in sight? Even the bathroom had a million ants crawling out of the walls. Everything was dusty tothe point where I began dusting myself, and wiping up cobwebs off the picture frames and corners. You could tell the sheets were dirty by the way your skin would itch everytime you lied down...in addition to the hairs from the last guest I found at first. Oh, and there were cockroaches...BIG ones.
I would like to note that at the point we came here, we had already been in costa rica a week and had stayed at cheaper places with none of these cleanliness issues.

After two nights, I couldnt stand the heat there without any air conditioning but more importantly the bugs, so we got a hotel room in Villas Nicolas, which was much pricier but beautiful, cool and clean with a nice view. Strongly recommend doing this and skipping the "jungle suite". Sure wish we had known.

Please note also, some of the positive reviews are actually for Villas Nicholas, not the jungle suite...be careful. Disappointed that even after we let the front desk know of the ant invasion, no one came to apologize or offer a discount.

    Response from Sheryl:

There are a number of inconsistencies in this review as this guest never contacted the front desk regarding insects or cleanliness issues. She,nor her partner who I met when I was working in reception ,never reported anything to either myself or my 2 office receptionists. Had they, we would have looked into it immediately. Her partner requested a room in the hotel because he said that Liane wasn't feeling well and couldn't stand the heat. I mentioned that Villas Nicolas, the hotel did have air, but would be more expensive and that the 1 of a kind Jungle studio that they had booked states ceiling fans only. He said he was aware of this but that Liane wanted air. The small "jungle"studios are cleaned by the same staff as Villas Nicolas. All of our previous reviews attest to their attention to detail. Having said that, the word "jungle" means just that. Unless you are in a hermetically sealed hotel room there is always a risk of insects from time to time. We spray when there is the occasional onslaught but only upon request...as we try to limit use of pesticide .here. To date we have not had any complaints re cleanliness either in the hotel or in the less expensive "jungle"studios next door. The reviews that are posted represent all of my rentals and they attest to this. I regret that these guests felt the need to post something that was less than honest because they perhaps expected that we would give them a free upgrade to the hotel.

  • Loved it! Our favorites were the monkeys and the sloth outside the room and Emilio's restaurant! We ate there a lot! Very convenient to everything and the pool is beautiful.

  • Our time at jungle studio was great overall. I would definitely rent it again. Having a spacious terrace was a huge advantage for me personally because I don't like to go to the beach during the hottest time, so I just spent afternoons at the terrace relaxing. We saw a sloth very close twice! There is no a/c but three fans are good enough. In the previous reviews I read about ants, it is true, you shouldn't leave any food outside of the fridge. Bringing ziplock bags for food might be a good idea. Otherwise there will be ants invasion. Internet is very spotty and slow, so we were mostly using it in the restaurants. The studio is on the hill, so if you don't rent a car you can take a 3-min bus to the beach. The same bus goes to the nearby town - Quepos.

This studio is great if you want a peaceful and relaxing vacation time and don't constantly need Internet. You'll have a private entrance to the property.

Laundry is available at the nearby hotel (Vilas Nicolas) for $20.

  • Very relaxing place to come back to after a day of exploring. The patio was very nice and really enjoyed the visits from the monkeys coming through the trees. Clean, comfortable with good amount of utensils for cooking. I also enjoyed the use of the pool. As well, I was happy there were plenty of restaurants and a grocery store with in walking distance.

  • Out of all the rooms I booked for my Costa Rica trip, I was the most excited about this one. It turned out to be just okay.

The Pros: The location is fantastic and the family of howler monkeys living outside our front porch was a stand-out experience. The shower is nice and big with hot water and the bed was relatively comfortable. Great large, clean refrigerator/freezer and good TV. The little couch area was nice for napping. Semi-private entrance/front patio was nice. (The entrance is where the hammock and lawn chairs are.) They allowed us all the amenities of the hotel like renting beach towels, pool, and booking tours.

The Cons: The room itself was grimy and felt like a dorm/hostel with run down furniture and florescent lighting. I shouldn't have expected more for the low price, but the pictures made me believe otherwise. The kitchen had ants and the previous occupant left a cereal box and bag a sugar in the microwave. Bugs were all around, coming in through the walls and some had made homes in the corners. No a/c, but there are two ceiling fans. Take a cold shower before bed and you'll be fine. The wi-fi was very, very spotty and we went without it most of the time. This apartment is next to the Villa Nicholas Hotel, but it's not apart of it. The room is owned by the hotel manager, I believe. Next time I'd rather just book with the hotel. We just never really felt comfortable or clean in this room, but it worked out just fine and pushed us to spend all of our time exploring Manual Antonio.

Not a bad way to go, just remember it is a "jungle" studio and don't expect much else.

  • I hate to write a great review, because this place was so amazing that I don't want anyone else to know about it in fear that it will be taken the next time we want to stay! The Villas Nicolas staff could not have been more helpful, nice or accommodating through every aspect of our trip there. We were most impressed with the studio/apartment, however. We were upgraded to a different one (Studio 1) because the people staying in our original location wanted to stay a bit longer. The place was just AMAZING. Absolutely beautiful and exactly what we had in mind when staying in the midst of the jungle and ocean. All wood and glass with an exquisite deck and everything you could possibly need. We cooked every day and had everything we needed to make full meals, as well as towels, candles, books, you name it. We even had the cleaning staff come and check on us and offer us fresh linens. Whilst lounging on our deck, we enjoyed the plethora of birds in the trees, the monkeys swinging through and snacking, the toucan nest in the tree beside us and the adorable agouti foraging below. We could see the ocean and hear the waves, and even in the afternoon rain, it was a complete pleasure to relax on the deck. There is also air conditioning in the unit we stayed in, which made sleeping that much more comfortable. We didn't go swimming at the pool, but we checked it out and it was clean and beautiful, and there is a lovely little wine bar right next to it. I have nothing negative to say about our stay. It went beyond our expectations!

  • Great location! We could walk to mostly everything and we had Howler monkeys, Tucans, Squirrel Monkeys, and Capuchin monkeys right outside our door!

  • It was awesome. We stayed here off season, had the beautiful pool to ourselves and hardly saw other guests. The studio is very private and we often saw monkeys come by. It was just the perfect quiet place for our getaway.
The staff speaks perfect English and helped us with all the tours and activities we wanted to do. Would definitely go back!
