The house is a classic design 2 bedroom on a residential area in Cusco. It is bright and clean with hardwood floors. It is tastefully furnished and located in a well maintained residential area of Cusco.
The double room is offered for 2 day minimum stays. You'll be enjoying a lovely very large room on the first floor, which includes a private room and a large closet. The space is fully furnished with a queen size bed for up to two people and a twin bed for one person (when I have a three-people reservation) or two twin size bed (for two people). Both beds will have cotton linen sheets, alpaca blankets, feeder comforters and an extra fleece blanket. I will also provide large bath towels. The room has a huge wall closet, hangers, shelving, plenty of lamps for extra lighting at night, and a table that can be used as a desk and chairs. In addition, you'll also have access to the rest of the house space--kitchen, bathroom, living room, dining area, and patio.
Your room is spacious, it has a large window facing north and east and it is furnished. It is intended friends, or families.
The kitchen is vintage style, and it is well equipped with a gas range and aluminum sink. The microwave and fridge are newer. The refrigerator is huge so storing your food should not be a problem. There is no automatic dishwasher.
The living room is large and comfortably furnished.
High speed wireless internet (Wi-Fi) is available throughout the entire place. Utilities are included and respectful use of power is requested (e.g. turn off the lights in your room when you're going to be out).
Houses in Cusco are not steam heated but all rooms have curtains and I provide cotton sheets, two alpaca blankets, a feeder comforter and an extra cotton blanket per bed, for extra warm at night. Temperatures drop at night, but it never gets too cold like in other countries.
The bathroom is right outside facing the bedroom. High pressure hot water shower is available 24/7 in the shower and in the sink. I will always provide towels.
Interaction with Guests
My reviews speak loud and therefore you could have a sense of how comfortable you would be by staying in my house. I am careful at not invading your personal space and privacy and therefore, after our initial informative meeting at check-in time I try to not interfere too much so you could feel at home and comfortable. However I take care of my guests and their comfort and if they need anything I try to help as much as I can within my possibilities. I live in the house, so I am available for whatever you may need.
For those in need of touristic option (including Machu Picchu) I offer a guide and provide help getting everything ready for you. Simply requested it from me, if this is your case, prior or right after your arrival date.
Breakfast is yummy. I provide with an American Breakfast served around 8am, daily (coffee, tea, herbal teas, omelets, local bread, juice made of local fruits), butter and marmalade. I often like to add something different to it and occasionally I like to switch the omelets for a fruit salad with yogurt and honey.
If you need pick up from the airport, let me know. I provide with detailed information with the directions to my house, but often, I received this type of requests. Coming to a foreign city like Cusco could be anxiety provoking to some and therefore I understand if you request that I go to pick you up. Simply provide me with your flight company, arrival time and I will be there. Please note that you will have to pay for taxi going there and coming back from the airport (approximately USD $15).
The house is in a cul-de-sac, therefore it is super safe. Not that the neighborhood is not safe, but it feel just extra safer having to access a gate to enter in the street in which my house is located.
My house is not right in the busy touristic center but neither too far, it is just six blocks away (walking distance). If you are like many of my previous guests, living in this part of the city will make you feel more “involved” in real local life than if you were to stay in a crowed youth hostel near Plaza de Armas. As well, there are plenty of places all the same, for tourists who like to drink beers and go to Starbucks for coffee. .
There are two supermarkets half a block away from the house, and plenty of local businesses (pharmacies, bakeries, restaurants).
I will provide you with a detailed sheet of directions (in English and Spanish) to get to my place. The airport is only 10 minutes by taxi from my house. The bus station is 8 minutes away by taxi.
If you take a taxi from the airport to my house it will be less expensive, but not all taxis are reliable, safe or know how to get to my house. For this reason, I offer PICK UP FROM THE AIRPORT as an option for you to consider. The price for this service will be USD $15 (one person) or USD $20 (on two people).
Please No Smoking & No Pets (I have a cat in the house).
Check in at or after 12PM (if you need to check in earlier, please let me know ahead of time. If the room is available you will be welcomed to arrive as early as 8am, but check with me first).
Check out at or before 10AM (if you need to check out a little later, let me know as well. If the room is available, meaning there are no other guests checking in later on the day, you will be able to stay up to 2pm, but let me know ahead of time, please, so I can accommodate your request).
Upon departure, please remove all perishable food & beverage from the room.
Monica was extremely helpful and was always kind and cheerful. Upon arrival she briefed us with all the house rules, great places to visit in Cusco, and directions (including a very cute hand drawn map of Cusco) to all the local markets and stores that would be useful to a traveller in Cusco. Her home was very cozy and the neighborhood felt safe and was within walking distance to the main plaza.
My friend and I stayed at Monica's for a little over a month. She is a great host with a wealth of information and a warm heart. She was accommodating throughout our stay with helpful tips along the way. She helped us with our Spanish and made amazing fresh toast. She was flexible in making my friend vegetarian options for breakfast as well. Overall, Monica and her home are both a gem in Cusco and I'm glad we were able to spend our time there.
We spent four days in Monica's home/new apartment and were treated to her generous offerings of breakfast and local / regional knowledge. Her communications with us were clearly understood by our cab driver and her help on our visit to Machu Picchu was invaluable. The space was clean and orderly and close to markets and the main plaza. We would highly recommend Monica's room or apartment to all. Thank you Monica for your active support of our stay in Cusco.
